Bride of Retribution: Aloof Billionaire's Dominant Game-Chapter 29 - 027 He is picky, not incapable.
Chapter 29: 027 He is picky, not incapable.
"What was his reaction?" Inside, Charlotte seemed calm, but there was a thread of tension; her slightly trembling eyelashes had already betrayed her emotions.
"No reaction at all, can you believe it? A man had no reaction to a woman like me. I finally believe those rumors. Atlas Hallow is really useless; he’s not a man." Luna said with anger, standing up, even raising her voice.
Men were as easy for her as turning a hand. Even someone as cold and self-controlled as Jack Smith had fallen for her, submitting to her charms. Yet Atlas Hallow showed no reaction, his breathing and heartbeat as steady as if he hadn’t seen anything at all, as though the person sitting on his lap were an insignificant animal, or even less than that. When Atlas looked at her, it was like looking at a piece of wood.
This was simply an insult to her.
Charlotte found it hard to imagine the scenario at the time, that Luna had taken off her clothes and sat on Atlas’s lap, yet he did not lift a finger?
A beautiful woman offering herself, and he didn’t indulge?
If that’s the case, he must be picky rather than incapable.
Based on the past few days of interaction, Charlotte felt sure Atlas had no physiological issues. He was a very healthy man. But explaining this to Luna seemed pointless since she was the one who eventually married Atlas Hallow, not Luna.
"By the way, Charlotte, do you have any money on hand? Atlas should give you money, right?" Luna looked at Charlotte. Although Atlas wasn’t a normal man, he was a rich man, so he shouldn’t shortchange Charlotte now that she’s married into the Hallow family. The Miller Family was already somewhat in decline, and Luna urgently needed money, so she had to borrow from Charlotte.
"Money? What do you need it for?" Charlotte was a bit curious. The monthly allowance for the two sisters was the same. The money was already sufficient; why did she still need more?
"I want to invest in Jack Smith’s new movie. His manager said that if we can invest ourselves, he will get more screen time." Luna said with excitement that left Charlotte somewhat bewildered. Wasn’t Jack Smith a singer?
"Do you have it or not? You don’t spend much money, and Atlas should give you money, right?" Over the years, Charlotte likely saved some money since she wasn’t a girl who liked to spend, and now that she was Mrs. Hallow, it wasn’t just a mountain of gold behind her, but a never-ending gold mine.
"How much do you need?" Regarding this request, Charlotte felt a bit reluctant to refuse, but agreeing with her sister wasn’t the right approach either; it was truly a dilemma.
"About fifty million, which would secure a quarter share." In reality, she didn’t need that much, only thirty million probably, but she mentioned more. Life in the Miller Family was only going to get tougher, so she wanted more from Charlotte, because it’s not good to ask for things often, even with sisters. She needed to have some reserves.
"Sis, did his manager tell you the expected returns? Let me see the share recruitment prospectus or the future box office profit distribution scheme, or even the whole movie budget." Charlotte rubbed her forehead. Fifty million wasn’t a small number, so she needed to review it again. If the movie could indeed make money, she could secure investment for Luna, even if the return was smaller. As long as the funds used were secure, that would be fine.
"Charlotte, what do you mean by this? You don’t trust me? You need to see those things before you give me money? Who’d have thought that after marrying into the Hallow Family, you’d get so high and mighty, you need to know that if it weren’t for me declining, how could you have had the chance to become their young mistress? Now, I just ask for a little bit of money, and you’re this long-winded. How can I expect you to do anything for the Miller Family in the future?" Luna’s expression immediately changed. How could this money be anything to Atlas Hallow? Yet Charlotte was finding excuses to stall?
"Sis, I’m just trying to ensure the funds’ purpose and safety." Charlotte felt extremely uncomfortable, but still explained her intentions to Luna with patience, "I don’t have that much money on me, but I can find a way to borrow it for you. The issue is, how you’re going to use that money is at least something I deserve to know, isn’t it?" Movie investment was a huge black hole; she didn’t want Luna to be swindled.
"How could you have no money? If you don’t want to loan it, then don’t, I don’t crave it." Unwilling to hear anymore, Luna stormed into the wardrobe, changed her clothes, and prepared to leave.
Actually, not investing in that movie was good. Movie returns weren’t as high as the previous years anymore; investing didn’t guarantee returns; not to mention someone like Luna, who’s actually best suited to marry into a family like the Hallows. Atlas Hallow was a high-intelligence, mature man, who should be able to tolerate occasional tantrums and her extravagant tendencies.
But life didn’t go as planned; everything fell out of order.
When Luna slammed the door angrily and left, Charles Miller still hadn’t figured out what happened. Seeing Charlotte coming out of Luna’s room looking a bit dejected, he quickly approached and held her hand, "Charlotte, what’s wrong? Are things not going well in the Hallow Family?"
This was his constant worry. Atlas Hallow was not an ordinary person. Marrying into the so-called wealthy family wasn’t necessarily a happy outcome, especially under such circumstances; it was even more concerning to him.
"No, he treats me well, and since he treats me well, the Hallow family wouldn’t treat me badly. You can rest assured, Dad." Charlotte’s words weren’t merely comforting; they were the truth.
She didn’t know how well a man could treat a woman, but she thought for someone like Atlas Hallow, his attitude towards her was already good enough. At least there was no mental or physical abuse from him; he fulfilled her requests one by one. What more could she want?
Upon hearing Charlotte’s words, Charles Miller finally felt a little relieved; it truly was a blessing.
"Was Luna throwing a tantrum at you? Just ignore her. She behaves like this every time she comes back..." Both kids, growing up in the same environment, yet with different temperaments and habits; who could be blamed for this? The couple never had a preference between their daughters, but now that Charlotte had married into the Hallow family, he felt more protective of her. After all, she married a stranger for the sake of the Miller Family for him.
"Dad, why did the Hallow family want to marry me or Sis?" Charlotte and Charles sat in the study room with red clay stove burning olive charcoal, the mountain spring water already boiling, and the brewed tea fragrantly wafting through the air. Taking a sip left a sweet aftertaste, Charlotte put down her teacup, looked at her increasingly elderly father, and quietly asked.
"Why?" Charles chuckled bitterly, looking at Charlotte’s young, beautiful face, and fell into thought...
