Born Into Villain's Family: I Have a 200\% Rebate System-Chapter 492: Feelings For Nick
The warmth of living skin, the familiar scent of soap and fabric, grounded her trembling heart.
Olivia was taken aback.
Aurora was not someone who showed affection so openly.
Whenever she did, it was rare enough that Olivia always felt a strange mix of surprise and indulgent happiness.
She hesitated only for a second before lifting her hand and gently patting Aurora’s head, her fingers threading through slightly damp hair.
"What happened?" Olivia asked again, her tone careful. "Was it really that bad?"
Aurora loosened her grip but did not pull away. She stared at the blanket for a long moment, her thoughts swirling chaotically. ’Bad?’ The word felt laughably insufficient.
For her, it truly had been a terrible day.
In her entire life, there was nothing she wished for more than for her family to reach a good ending. She had wealth, power, and foresight, yet the thing she feared most was painfully simple.
’Losing them.’
Olivia seemed to understand even without an answer. She patted Aurora’s back slowly, rhythmically, as if soothing a frightened child.
"It’s alright," Olivia murmured. "Nightmares... or rather, dreams, are often the opposite of reality."
Aurora released a breath she hadn’t realized she was holding. The tightness in her chest eased slightly.
"Don’t put so much pressure on yourself," Olivia continued gently. "You need to rest. And you need to take your medicine."
With that, Olivia turned and opened the cabinet beside the bed. The faint clink of glass bottles echoed softly in the room.
Aurora frowned.
"What’s going on?" she asked. "Why does it feel like you know what I am suffering from?"
Olivia glanced back at her.
"The doctor came," she said. "You were examined. They ran some tests."
Aurora’s fingers tightened around the blanket.
"And?"
"You have a fever," Olivia continued calmly. "Nothing else. The tests were clear."
Aurora blinked, confusion flickering across her face.
"Just... a fever?"
"Yes."
She stared at Olivia, her brows knitting together. After a moment, she asked quietly, "How long was I asleep?"
Olivia thought for a moment, then answered, "Almost three days."
Aurora stiffened.
"Three days?" Her eyes widened. "Then what about my university admission?"
Olivia smiled faintly and rubbed Aurora’s head, amusement creeping into her eyes.
"So now you remember to mention it?" she teased. "Before this, you never said a word. None of us even knew you took the entrance exam."
Aurora’s lips parted slightly.
"And?"
Olivia looked at her and said casually, "You got in. Brookville University."
Aurora froze.
Then her eyes lit up, bright and dazzling, as she threw her arms around Olivia again.
"I got in!" she exclaimed. "I finally got into Brookville!"
Her joy was genuine, radiant, but Olivia did not fully share it. She looked at Aurora with mild dissatisfaction, her tone turning stern.
"You’re really something," Olivia said. "Deciding to attend a university so far away and acting like it’s nothing."
Aurora stuck out her tongue playfully.
She had planned this long ago. A different city meant fresh connections, new opportunities, and more room to expand her influence.
Even though she was nearly a billionaire now and had rebate her system, she believed money should never lie idle.
’If I have it, I should use it.’
She had chosen Brookville precisely for that reason, and now she was getting scolded for it. Originally, she had planned to act first and report later. Judging from Olivia’s expression, she realized she might need to reverse that order.
She tilted her head and asked curiously, "So... what was Dad and Mom’s reaction?"
Olivia sighed.
"They were furious," she replied. "But right now, they’re busy with the case involving Handsome Milo and Lovely."
Aurora frowned. "What happened?"
Olivia’s expression darkened slightly.
"At first, when Hans, Milo, and Lovely suddenly accepted the charges, everyone relaxed," she said. "But later, we found out why."
Aurora listened intently.
"They were bribed," Olivia continued. "Someone paid them to pretend to accept responsibility, then file a court case later and push all the blame onto the Gortys family."
Aurora’s eyes narrowed.
"But halfway through, that person stopped contacting them," Olivia said. "Hans, Milo, and Lovely panicked. They filed a case anyway, but they couldn’t prove much."
She paused briefly before adding, "That’s why they kept demanding your parents visit them."
Aurora swallowed. "Dad and Mom went?" she asked.
"Yes," Olivia replied. "And the argument escalated quickly."
Her voice lowered. "Hans got injured."
Aurora interrupted sharply, "How is that possible? Aren’t prisoners separated from visitors by a glass wall?"
Olivia frowned.
"That’s the problem," she said. "For some reason, the glass barrier was destroyed. The separation between prisoner and visitor was gone."
Aurora’s heart sank.
"They could see each other directly," Olivia continued. "Your father lost control and slapped Hans in fury."
She exhaled slowly.
"And that," Olivia concluded, "is how Hans, Milo, and Lovely filed a charge against father."
Now, Adam and Mary were far too busy to personally take care of Aurora. The lawsuit demanded all of their time, and they were occupied day and night collecting evidence.
Because of that, they arranged shifts, asking Olivia, Adriana, Theodora, and Lucas to take turns staying by Aurora’s side.
Hearing this, something clicked in Aurora’s mind.
’The surveillance cameras...’
She looked at Olivia, her eyes sharpening slightly.
"So the cameras?" she murmured.
Olivia nodded, her expression turning serious.
"That’s the suspicious part. For some reason, the surveillance cameras were broken as well."
Aurora exhaled slowly. The pieces finally fell into place.
’Of course...’
"This was a setup," she thought. ’And the one behind it...’
Her fingers curled lightly against the blanket.
"Victor," she said aloud.
Olivia blinked in surprise.
"You think it’s him?"
Aurora nodded faintly. Victor loved interfering in family matters, especially when chaos was involved. If this truly was his doing, then she would make sure he had more than enough time to regret it.
She lifted her gaze again.
"When will Dad and Mom be back?"
Olivia shook her head.
"I don’t know," she replied. "From the looks of it, this might take a while. So for now, you should rest and stop thinking about these things."
Aurora nodded obediently, though her mind was anything but calm. A moment later, another thought surfaced.
"Where’s Jules?" she asked quietly.
The moment the name left her lips, Olivia frowned.
"That’s actually the problem," she admitted. "For some reason, Jules hasn’t visited at all. We were even wondering if we said something to offend her."
Aurora’s heart tightened.
’The voice...’
She remembered those words far too clearly. Before she could dwell on it further, Olivia reached out, patting Aurora’s chest and then her hand gently.
"Alright," Olivia said softly. "It’s time for your medicine."
She placed the pills on the bedside table, took out the breakfast she had brought, and sat beside Aurora. Calmly, patiently, she began feeding her spoonful by spoonful.
The warm food settled in Aurora’s stomach, easing some of the lingering discomfort.
Aurora ate obediently, quietly enjoying the rare tenderness. ’It’s nice... being taken care of like this.’
After making sure Aurora had eaten properly, Olivia handed her the medicine. The bitterness lingered on her tongue, but exhaustion soon claimed her. Not long after, Aurora slipped into sleep once again.
She completely forgot about Spencer.
Her phone kept vibrating beside the pillow, his name flashing again and again. When she didn’t answer, Spencer grew anxious and finally called Emily. Emily explained calmly that Aurora had a fever and couldn’t contact him at the moment.
That was enough.
As long as he knew she was safe, Spencer forced himself to wait, deciding to let Aurora contact him when she woke up.
Meanwhile, far away from Aurora, things were anything but peaceful for Jules.
Jules stood silently inside her apartment, staring through the peephole. Her teeth sank into her lower lip as her heart pounded violently.
’Why... why do I feel like opening the door?’
She didn’t understand it herself. She wanted to cut off all contact with Nick, yet her body refused to listen. Her fists clenched as she slowly stepped back toward the sofa.
’How does he even know my new address?’
And worse... he was knocking as if he was absolutely certain she would open the door.
Outside, Nick stood with an excited smile. Just the night before, he had a dream.
In that dream, he saw a different life. A life where Lucas eventually stepped aside, where Nick slowly corrupted Jules, where they ended up married. When he woke up, his heart burned with certainty.
’Things may have changed,’ he thought, ’but if I try hard enough, I can still make it happen.’
As long as he created enough fear, Jules would have no choice but to sever her ties with Lucas.
Driven by that thought, he knocked harder, then pressed the doorbell repeatedly, worry creeping in when the door didn’t open immediately. Soon, he heard footsteps approaching. His pulse spiked.
’She’s coming...’
Excitement flooded him. ’Maybe she still has feelings for me.’
