Even if Lovely lived ten lifetimes, she wouldn't repay it. If she ever tried anything again, Hans and Milo would be legally responsible.

She would have no chance to twist her way out.

Adam leaned back, exhaling slowly. Good. She can never ruin our lives again.

He looked at the thugs, men who had once been criminals but had suffered enough in prison to break apart and rebuild themselves.

"I checked your jail records," Adam remarked.

"You've improved. As long as you don't harm anyone and protect the people here… you can work as clerks. I'll give you a place to start fresh."

The thugs bowed their heads, emotions tightening their throats.

For the first time in years, they felt human again.

After the thugs left, Adam remained seated for a moment, letting the silence of his office settle around him like a cold blanket.

He slowly lifted the contract again, the crisp pages brushing against his fingertips, and a sharp glint flickered through his eyes.

"It is time for the other two," he murmured, his tone cold enough to chill the room further.

Far away, Hans was drowning in another world entirely, one filled with flashing lights, the smell of sweat and alcohol, and the rhythmic clatter of poker chips.

The casino air was heavy with perfume and desperation, and Hans sat right in the center of it, slumped in a velvet chair that looked far too luxurious compared to his trembling hands.

He had already blown through ten thousand dollars, and as the realization settled into his bones, a wave of panic rolled over him.

"That was the limit," he whispered to himself, gripping the edge of the table. "Grandma hoarded all the other money… That old hag…"

Disgust twisted through his chest, dark and bitter.

'If I ever get the chance to take that money from her, I swear I'll do it. She deserves it for hoarding every dime like a dragon.'

But despite that inner venom, he knew he still needed her.

His face tightened with reluctance at the thought of having to butter her up again, but he took out his phone anyway.

When he was about to tap her number, Abby's hand suddenly closed over his wrist.

Hans turned sharply, displeasure radiating from his expression. "What are you doing?"

Abby leaned against the back of his chair, her tone soft but calculating.

"If you call her right now and ask for money, she will feel it is abrupt. You need to ease her into it, make it seem like you care, like you're worried about her. Only then will she feel safe enough to give you anything."

Hans frowned deeply.

"She probably already knows that my father and I planned to send her to an old-age home. She saw the documents."

Abby drew a slow breath and smiled, her eyes glinting with sharp intelligence.

"Then you pretend to oppose your father. Make her believe that you value her, that you are the one trying to protect her. Once she trusts you completely, she will be willing to hand over everything."

Hans's eyes lit up with sudden greed. "Keep going."

Abby's voice became silkier, every word dipped in strategy.

"After she starts trusting you, ask your father to act along. Make him threaten to take her money or accuse her of wasting it. If she panics, she will move everything to you, the one she trusts. When she does that, you take all the money and kick your father out, the same way he's planning to kick her out."

Hans stared at her with admiration that bordered on worship. He raised a thumb. "You're brilliant. No wonder you're… you."

Abby's lips curved slightly. She had grown up in an urban household, only to be thrown out at fifteen when they discovered she was not the biological daughter.

The bitterness never left her; instead, it became a blade she learned to use with skill. 𝕗𝕣𝐞𝐞𝘄𝐞𝚋𝚗𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗹.𝚌𝕠𝚖

When she met Hans, she had nearly mistaken his cheap arrogance for genuine charm. She only learned later that he was not wealthy at all, merely a middle-class boy who pretended well.

Still, she stayed. And Hans, clueless to her true intentions, kept admiring her abilities.

Even the plan involving Adam, the extortion, the staged encounter, the manipulation, was a seed she planted slowly and carefully. Hans believed he played a major role, but Abby knew she was the puppeteer behind every string.

While Hans gloated, Abby felt the corners of her lips tighten with silent ambition.

'If I can't rise through Hans, then perhaps Adam… His money, his influence… maybe that is the route I need.'

Her thoughts were interrupted by the abrupt crash of the casino doors bursting open.

A group of dangerous-looking men marched inside. Their heavy boots echoed on the floor, sending a ripple of silence through the gambling den. Even the lights seemed to flicker as if intimidated.

Hans froze instantly.

Everyone recognized them. They were the infamous middlemen who forged fake identities, and their prices were notorious, far too steep for most.

Hans's heart slammed against his ribs as a cold sweat coated the back of his neck.

'No… no way… They can't be here for me… They probably don't even know I'm here.'

He instinctively ducked behind Abby like a child hiding behind his mother's skirt.

Abby felt his fingers dig into her shoulder and rolled her eyes internally. Pathetic. Truly pathetic.

The men walked to where Hans had been sitting just moments ago. One of them cracked his neck, then tilted his head slightly.

"We know you're hiding behind her," the man called out. "Come out unless you want us to drag you out. If we have to use force, you will regret it."

Hans trembled violently and whispered to Abby, "I don't want to get beaten. Help me…"

Abby sighed and looked at the men with a polite, almost seductive smile. "Whatever the misunderstanding is, I'm sure we can solve it calmly. There's no need for violence."

The leader glanced at her but remained unmoved. "We prefer to settle our scores with violence today."

Before Hans could react, they shoved Abby aside and yanked him forward.

Hans let out a short, strangled yelp as they threw him onto the cold floor. Without hesitation, the beating began. Fists and feet landed without rhythm, only intention.

Abby didn't intervene. She crossed her arms and stepped aside, her expression indifferent. She had no desire to get dragged into his punishment.

Hans's cries grew desperate. "Please! Please! I'll pay! I swear I'll pay that thousand dollars I owe!"

The leader's brows shot up. "A thousand? That thousand has become ten thousand. If you don't pay today, it will become ten thousand two hundred tomorrow."

Hans gasped. "1000 percent interest? How can you charge that much?"

The leader laughed, the sound rough and dark.

"When you tried to scam us, did you think we were vegetarians who wouldn't bite back? We promised that we'd teach you a lesson once we found you. If you don't give us $10,000 today it will become $10,200 tomorrow."

Hans trembled all over. "I... I'll call my grandma… I'll get the ten thousand right now."

He dialed with shaking fingers, and when Lovely picked up, Hans burst out, his voice trembling.

"Grandma, I was scammed! I lost everything! I need ten thousand right now, or I might die! Please, please send it!"

Lovely, who had just signed the massive contract Adam tricked her into, froze with confusion.

Suspicion immediately clouded her mind.

'Is he trying to trick me again? Is this connected to what happened earlier?'

Her breathing turned sharp as she clenched her fists.

"I'm not giving you a single penny!" she shouted into the phone. "You probably wasted that money and now you want more!"

She hung up immediately.

Hans stared at his screen, disbelief twisting into rage.

But he swallowed it with trembling restraint. He lifted his camera instead and snapped photos of his bruised face. He sent them to Lovely.

Lovely, who was about to block him, froze when she opened the pictures.

Her grandson looked like he had been mauled. No matter how ruthless she was toward her children, Hans was still her grandson.

Then came his message:

"Grandma, they want twenty thousand. I'm using the ten thousand you gave me earlier to cover half, but I still need ten thousand more. If I don't give it today, they'll add two hundred tomorrow…"

Lovely's heart squeezed painfully. 'He is my grandson… he will die if I don't help…'

Her hands shook as she transferred the money.

When Hans saw the notification, relief flooded him. "I'll pay them now," he said, almost weeping with joy.

He transferred the ten thousand, and once the men received it, they stared him down. "If you try anything again, we will not hesitate next time."

Then they stepped back, and Abby finally approached.

She looked at Hans, then murmured,

"Your grandmother is ruthless to her own children, but clearly she still cares for you. Otherwise, she would never have given so much money after knowing your intentions. But in the end, you are still a pathetic person."
