Chapter 27: Heaven’s Split

The moment Asteria, the shimmering silver sword in Kairos’ hand and Drakfang ignited with dragon fire rumbling around it, the entire Colosseum held its breath with anticipation. The heat was solid, and pressed against the skin like a physical weight. Pyrix’s grin widened. Veins of magma bulged up on his neck, pulsing with the steady rhythm of a heartbeat that was far too slow to be human.

Kairos lowered his stance to mere crouch. His legs were relaxed, eyes sharp, and breathing steady despite the suffocating air in the arena and then Pyrix lunged forward suddenly. But Kairos vanished.

He moved so fast that a mere human eye could not track him, a streak of wind breeze hurled obscured in the place where Kairos stood a few seconds ago.

Pyrix swung Drakfang through the air.

WHOOSH!

The immense heat of the passing blade split the ground open. Kairos slid behind him, with a flashy speed.

THUD!!

A spinning kick struck directly into the side of Pyrix’s head.

TUNNNN!!!

It sounded like a blacksmith tinkering a hammer on a molten iron.

Pyrix staggered sideways. But he didn’t get angry, he let out a laugh, a genius laugh of pure thrill.

"GOOD!" Pyrix roared, a spark of fire spitting from the mouth. "FIGHT ME LIKE THAT!"

He swung again. A trail of wildfire followed the long black blade, flickering the air.

Kairos bent down, relaxing his legs. He sprinted along the vertical arena wall running as if weight meant nothing.

The crowd roared in disbelief. "He’s running on the barrier!"

Kairos wasn’t attacking constantly... He was waiting, and baiting. Every time Pyrix swung with world-ending power, Kairos fed him another miss.

Slash! Dodge! Slash! Dodge!

Then, Kairos struck, finding a vulnerable spot to hit.

Clang! Clang! Clang!

Asteria hit the shoulder. Asteria hit the knee. Asteria hit the wrist.

Every strike was precise, and found a gap in the dragon scales. Pyrix felt it. For the first time in years, he felt the sting of power.

The flame giant stopped swinging. He laughed with joy and excitement.

"You really are something." Pyrix panted, steam rising from his unwavered skin.

Kairos landed softly on the ground, smiling back, smearing a think soot from his cheek.

"You’re amazing, Pyrix," Kairos said honestly.

Pyrix’s eyes blazed, burning brighter. "You’re the first one who ever said that to me, boy," Pyrix groaned with a pale breath of exhaustion. "Usually, people just call me a monster."

They lunged forward and clashed again.

BOOM!!!

Drakfang crushed, pinning down with immense pressure. Kairos didn’t block it directly, because that would shatter his arms. He parried, deflecting the heavy blade into the ground, and jumped sideways.

SNAP!!

An instant sharp kick unleashed vehemently to Pyrix’s jaw, rattling the giant’s teeth.

SLASH!!

Asteria carved across Pyrix’s chest, leaving a glowing white streak on the obsidian scales.

Pyrix staggered back, sliding his feet. His smile did not fade... but something in his eyes shifted.

It was Respect. Pyrix inhaled deeply. Flames wrapped, coalescing around him like a royal cloak. The heat in the arena spiked, melting the tips of the crystal pillars.

"That’s enough dodging, Kairos," Pyrix said, his voice dropping to a growl. "you’ve proven your speed. Now... face the real me."

He swung his sword and made a genuine gesture to Kairos as acknowledgement. He raised Drakfang overhead, the air trembling to howl around the legendary blade.

Behind Pyrix, the mana condensed. A massive, cacophonous silhouette appeared, a Fire Dragon, fifty feet tall, roaring across the arena. "Infernal Soul."

The ground melted into a lake of lava. The audience panicked, scrambling back as the heat burned their skin even through the barriers. Kairos stood alone in the center of the inferno. He looked so small and fragile, but his eyes were intense and unbreakable.

Even when the heat scorched his clothes. Even when the fire touched his skin. He didn’t flinch. Because inside his head... he didn’t see fire.

He saw Seyana, her smile in the library, her eyes looking at him with total trust.

And he heard the words she once said "I love you, Kairos... I believe in you!"

He exhaled so softly. The fear evaporated with a loud hiss into the air. Asteria shone with a pure, white glow.

Kairos clenched the sword tightly.

"I won’t lose," Kairos whispered. "not today and not while she’s watching."

Pyrix roared. "INFERNAL SOUL: FINAL CRESCENT!"

He swung the sword down. A wave of apocalypse fire descended. Kairos roared back, his distorting voice rumbling across the arena. "ASTERIA: GUIDE ME!"

He swung up a beam of pure, cutting wind to meet the fire. They lunged forward, and the world moved slower around them. Every spectator felt it. Every general stood up, knocking over their chairs.

Seyana’s heart froze, her hand clutching her royal gown tightly.

Asteria and Drakfang drew closer...

5 meters.....

The heat roared in the air.

3 meters...

The wind is screaming.

1 meter.

At the second of the point of impact and then....

CRACK!!

The sky broke apart, looking like the heavens split. Everything stopped. The clouds parted, drifting away in the clear sky.

Something impossible entered the arena.

A man. A single man.

He appeared instantly, between their swords as if he had always been there, waiting in the space between time.

He wore robes of void-black. His hair was long and pale as bone. His eyes were literal black holes, eating the light around them.

His posture is tremendously scary. With his left hand, he caught Drakfang, the massive magma blade hissed and died, the fire extinguished instantly upon touching his skin. With his right hand, he caught Asteria. The silver wind shattered against his palm.

Kairos and Pyrix were abruptly slammed backward. BANG!!

They flew backward, skidding across the crystal floor, leaving deep trenches carved across the path.

The man stood in the dead center of the arena. His voice was calm, bored and carrying the ancient essence. "I have seen enough!"

GRINNNNN!!

The entire Crystal Colosseum fell silent. The cheering and applauding anticipation froze, petrified. Even the Nexus Crystal above dimmed, the terrifying presence obscured the radiance of it.

The man raised his head, his eyes darting at the Royal Pavilion. "I am Algreth," he said, his voice echoing across the arena like a beast rumble. "Elder brother of Malgreth."

It was like a psychic command. "The Divine Girl," Algreth said, pointing a finger directly at the Royal Pavilion. "Seyana Solaris... belongs to us."

THUMP!!

The screeching pressure instantly pinned everyone in the arena, suffocating aura spread across the arena. Everyone in the Colosseum knelt . Soldiers dropped their weapons. Nobles fell out of their chairs. Even King Raezon fell to one knee, gasping for air, beads of sweat pouring down his face.

Generals stuttered, clutching their chests, their hearts aching with fear.

And Seyana... Seyana collapsed to her knees. Her vision obscured, pure terror consumed her breath and she couldn’t scream. She could only stare at the monster who had come for her.

Silence reigned. But then... a movement.

Kairos turned instantly. He looked at Seyana. He saw her on her knees. He saw her fear, his eyes widened in anger.

"Don’t..." Kairos cautioned, his voice breaking the silence. "Don’t you ever dare to speak her name."

On the other side, Pyrix stood. His dragon pride was insulted. A stranger had interrupted his fight and even extinguished his fire.

Pyrix roared. "BROTHERS! SISTER!"

He didn’t ask for permission. He transformed.

ROAR!!!

Scales erupted. Wings tore through his skin. In seconds, a massive Fire Dragon stood in the arena.

From the spectator stands, four figures leapt down.

Veldra.

Aeryth.

Stark.

Luxara.

They transformed mid-air, while plummeting into the arena.

A massive Water Serpent coiled around the pillars.

A dangerous Wind Wyvern rose to the skies, screeching.

An Earth Behemoth shook the ground as it landed.

A radiant Light Dragon blinded the darkness.

Five Dragons against one Demon God.

The heat returned, and pressure spiking up every second. Kairos gripped his sword.

[KILL ALGRETH... TO ATTAIN A SPECIAL SKILL]

Rahhhhh why the fuck is this system annoying and why it was inside me? Hell with the skills, Seyana was struggling, I needed to save her. Kairos thought to himself.

He heard a whisper cut through the chaos. A sound only he could hear. "Kairos...!"

It was Seyana, a whisper of absolute terror.

He turned his back on Algreth. He moved toward her, sprinted, hovering with wind mana converging at his feet towards the Royal Box.

"I’m coming..." Kairos whispered to the air quietly, and before anyone could process it, the battle of the greatest powers began.

The Dragons roared. Demon raised his hand and the Colosseum exploded into chaos.
