Chapter 71: Ch 71: Fateful Encounter

"Are you...enjoying your current life? Is there anything you want to do in your life, but are not able to do? You can tell me. I won’t judge you for it."

The black-haired guy asked in a relaxed voice. His voice was so soft that it made Shuu’s insides tingle.

His instincts told him that he should accept that person and dote on him. But why did Shuu feel like this when he looked at a stranger?

"Ex...cuse me, but do I know you?"

Shuu asked, and he was surprised to find that his voice was similarly soft and echoey. This place did not feel like the real world, and his brain told him that he should be alarmed.

But for some reason, it did not occur to him that he should be alarmed.

Instead, his whole being accepted this place and that person in front of him.

"Know me?...You will know me soon enough. I just...wanted to come here and meet you beforehand because I got impatient waiting. Anyway, this is not about me. This is about you. What do you want in life?"

Shuu felt stumped. He had...never asked himself this question.

Rather, he never felt like he had the luxury to ask himself this. Every day was a struggle already, and he needed his energy to survive.

But now that he finally had time to think, he could only come up with one wish.

"I just...want a place to belong. I almost thought I had found it, but life has a way to throw me down just when I try to get up. What about you? Do you have a wish?"

Shuu had no idea why he asked the stranger that question. It was not like he could do anything about it even if he knew.

But a part of him wanted to ask and also try to fulfil the wish if he could.

"My...wish? Don’t worry about my wish. It is about to be fulfilled soon enough. I just need to wait for it some more."

The stranger smiled, and for some reason, that smile made Shuu instantly feel better. He did not know what effect this stranger had on him, but it was beyond wild how calm he felt, and how quickly.

"I..."

Shuu called out to the stranger, but the other spoke up first.

"You know, I have a special talent for looking into the future. So I can tell you a few things. First, run as fast as you can. There is a beast who has marked you and now hungers for you. But it does not realize what it’s feeling yet. So make sure you run before you no longer can."

The cozy atmosphere of the space turned bleak, and Shuu’s breath hitched. The stranger’s hand touched Shuu’s shoulder and the mark Prince Kaiden had left behind before they pulled back with a delicate touch.

"I should...run? Can I even run anywhere?"

Shuu asked, and the stranger just sighed, his golden eyes softening.

"Don’t worry. You will be able to run if you make up your mind. You just need to have a will to survive."

The stranger told Shuu, and Shuu just nodded. He felt comfortable, and he wanted to stay in that space.

However, all good things must come to an end, and the space around him started to collapse quickly.

The stranger looked annoyed by this and quickly looked around before he stood up.

"It seems like it’s time for me to go. But don’t worry. We will meet again soon. I will make sure of it, mother..."

The last word was almost a whisper, and Shuu felt like he hallucinated when he heard that word. His eyes snapped open as he felt someone grabbing his shoulder.

"W-Where...what happened?"

Shuu asked as the memories of what he had gone through circled his mind a few times. He felt sick but refreshed at the same time. It almost felt like a burden had fallen from his shoulders, and he could relax once more. 𝒻𝘳𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝘯𝘰𝑣ℯ𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝘮

"Shuu, can you hear me? Thank god-! I was afraid that something happened to you. You just...zoned out and would not respond. Do you know what happened?"

Nero asked with a worried look on his face. Shuu blinked at him, and relief filled his expression.

"I...think I had the most pleasant dream ever. I met someone who told me to run before it is too late. But I...cannot remember who they were or what they looked like."

Shuu felt like he had missed something important. He wanted to go back to sleep and dream the same dream.

But he had a feeling it wouldn’t actually matter if he fell asleep again or not.

"Alright, I get it. Here, eat this for now. I packed some for the way home, so if you start feeling sick, do tell me."

Shuu nodded as he took the sweet he was being offered and bit into it.

The carriage ride was normal after that, and he did not really feel sick. But as soon as his back touched the bed, the weird feeling came back. His instincts told him that he needed to run as soon as possible.

But where could he go? And how? He doubted Prince Kaiden would allow him to leave just like this.

Not to mention his weird condition that caused all of his energy to leave him.

"Let’s go to sleep now. I hope tomorrow will be a better day for me."

Shuu could only hope that it happened at this point. He closed his eyes, and his body relaxed.

His heart beat loudly in his ear as he awaited the sweet dream from before. But unfortunately, he did not have the same dream for the next week.

The only stroke of luck was the fact that he was not called to the imperial palace again. Both Prince Kaiden and Lady Sera were too busy to bother him, and Shuu was able to relax in Nero’s home.

But the weird feeling of him ’missing’ something never went away.
