Chapter 68: Ch 68: Tea Party- Part 1

Shuu tried to pull down the sleeve of his cloak, only for his hands to be swatted away by Madam Martha.

"This fits perfectly on your body, so don’t touch it too much. Luckily, this silk is special and will never get ruined, but we can never be too careful with it."

Madam Martha sounded like she was in awe and disappointed at the same time. Her eyes kept looking Shuu up and down, and that made him even more nervous.

Nero watched this happen from the sidelines before he quickly stood beside Shuu to join him.

"I think you have terrorized him enough, Madam Martha. We should take our leave now, or we will be late for the tea party."

He reminded the elder lady, but Madam Martha just made another sour face.

"You both say this because you don’t know how precious this material is. Only the empress who birthed the next heir can-"

"We get it. But it was Kaiden’s request, right? None of us ever had a choice. We should get going now."

Nero cut off Madam Martha before she could finish speaking. He also quickly dragged Shuu out of the room so that he wouldn’t hear more of Madam Martha’s words and get even more nervous.

"I-I don’t think I can do this..."

Shuu complained, suddenly feeling terrified about this tea party.

"It will be fine. I will stay by your side. And if things truly do go south, then I am sure Kaiden will help us as well."

Nero assured Shuu with a smile, and Shuu tried to smile back as well. But in reality, he was not sure if Prince Kaiden would help them out or not.

Especially if the source of their problem was Lady Sera.

__________

The tea party was held in the imperial rose garden, and people were already seated by the time Shuu and Nero arrived.

The time they had been given was 06:30, but Nero had insisted on getting to the tea party at 5 instead. That had been the right choice to make.

Lady Sera looked slightly surprised to see them make it, but since she was in polite company, she did not say much.

She just stood up and bowed toward them.

"It is my honor to welcome Crown Prince Kaiden’s ’ex’-companion to my tea party. Please, come and have a seat."

She gestured toward her table, where only one seat was available. There was an awkward moment when everyone realized this.

But Sera did not miss a single beat and continued.

"Companion Shuu, you can sit at our table. As for your partner, I have a special seat prepared for him. I am sure he will enjoy the table with Countess Rebecca and her friends."

The table Sera gestured toward was occupied with extremely beautiful and young women.

They were all dressed rather provocatively as well, and their eyes looked at Nero with a flirty gaze.

Nero’s arm tightened around Shuu, and he refused to take a single step away from him. Shuu also did not move, which made Sera stand there awkwardly.

Her smile felt strained, and she looked at Prince Kaiden for help.

But the crown prince was not looking at her. He was looking at Shuu and Nero with narrowed eyes. And then, a smile broke across his face, but it did not feel reassuring to her.

"As my companion and the current guest of honor, Shuu and Nero should be allowed a seat at the main table. I am sure all of the ladies sitting at the main table would agree and give up their seats."

Prince Kaiden did not support Sera, but instead turned to look at her friends.

Sera felt her heart freeze at those words, and she immediately wanted to object. But the place and the timing did not match, causing her to pull her words back.

"Actually, that does make sense. I was so used to my usual arrangement at these tea parties that it never occurred to me to change it. Would someone at the table volunteer to switch seats?"

The words felt sour in Sera’s mouth, but she had to show that she and Prince Kaiden were on the same page. Her father had asked her to reconcile with Prince Kaiden, and she knew better than to disobey him.

Her ’friends’ looked at each other before one of them stepped forward.

"I-I will change my seat."

And just like that, another seat had been made available at the table.

That should have been the end of it all, but another unexpected guest showed up at the party.

"Oh! Is the tea party starting? Then, do you mind if my fiancée and I join as well? Lady Reina, you should join us too. It will be a fun time."

Prince Yunn showed up as well, and he looked smug and happy. Just looking at him made Sera’s rage boil.

But she could not refuse him, especially when Prince Kaiden had not said anything and she was using the imperial palace’s rose garden.

"Of course. I guess everyone at the main table will have to change seats today. Our guests have put us in a difficult situation, so I beg for your understanding."

She subtly tried to put the blame on her ’guests.’

It was a good attempt by her. But unfortunately, her opponents were too experienced to let her get away with this.

"Ah, it’s good to see you still have a conscience. That reassured me a little that our future queen is not totally useless and does not even know how to check a guest list properly. Or maybe it is the stress that is causing you all this trouble. I truly do feel worried for you."

Princess Danielle’s voice was soft but confident. At her words, people quickly looked at the guest list and realized that, right at the end, Prince Yunn and Princess Danielle’s names were mentioned.

Sera could only grit her teeth and try to maintain a calm attitude.

After all, she had seen those names added to the list as well, but she had never expected them to show up-especially since they had never shown up before.
