[BL]The Hero and his Party Won't Let Me Go-Chapter 136: Ch : In Two Boats
"Is it... pointing to you? Is this thing broken?"
Shuu asked as he looked at the array. But the other two had serious expressions on their faces as they stared at it.
Kaiden even got up to move around, but the array moved with him and kept pointing at him at all times.
"This is..."
Nero trailed off without finishing his thought. But from his expression, it did seem like he knew what was going on.
Shuu waited to see whether the two of them would explain what was happening or not, but there did not seem to be any indication that either of them would speak up.
As for Shuu... he did not really care whether they told him what was going on or not. Actually, he would prefer it if they did not tell him.
Ignorance was bliss, and Shuu was a firm believer in this. So he would rather avoid a situation than worry about it all the time.
"I see. Nero, investigate those two new additions as thoroughly as you can to see if it is one of them. If not, then you can begin a wider search."
Emperor Kaiden ordered, and Nero nodded. He turned around and, with one last look at the kids, left the room.
"Are you sure it is alright to leave things like this?"
Shuu asked in a worried voice, and Emperor Kaiden nodded.
"It will be fine. I will make sure it is fine for everyone. So you don’t have to worry about a single thing."
He told Shuu, and Shuu nodded in agreement.
Shuu believed Emperor Kaiden when he said that nothing would happen. But a part of him still felt a little troubled over all this. It was... just too much.
Things were happening, and he had no idea what to do about any of it except watch from the sidelines.
__________
The atmosphere in the imperial palace had turned sour.
Despite her best efforts to keep things in check, Princess Danielle was not able to stop the others from gossiping about Shuu’s room.
Not only were the nobles questioning how this had happened, but she was also being affected since the incident had taken place in her wing.
It would not have been such a big deal had it not been for her strained relationship with Prince Yunn these days.
’I should make sure to spend some time with Shuu. The more distance I keep from him, the worse it will be for my position.’
Her father had specifically asked her to help Lady Canarie, and Danielle had agreed out of desperation. With the change in prophecy and her uncertain position, that had seemed like the right thing to do.
She was playing her role as much as she could. But it was slowly becoming certain that Emperor Kaiden did not care about the prophecy at all. All he cared about was Shuu.
And it all came down to the same point as before—Emperor Kaiden would do as Shuu asked him to.
"Ugh, what a messy situation."
She muttered under her breath as she felt her standing becoming more and more fragile.
"Sister, did you say something?"
Lady Canarie asked her, and Danielle shook her head.
"No. By the way, how is your progress? Have you been able to meet with Emperor Kaiden? Does he seem fond of you?" 𝓯𝓻𝒆𝙚𝒘𝓮𝙗𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝒍.𝙘𝓸𝙢
Princess Danielle knew she was asking a useless question. But she wanted to turn the conversation away from herself.
As expected, the look on Canarie’s face fell, and tears stung her eyes.
"I... no. Emperor Kaiden does not even run into me, no matter how much I try. I even tried to bring him snacks, but he refused me. But at least he is doing the same to Lady Elysia. So that is something..."
Canarie’s face fell, but she tried to sound positive. She was trying her best, but seeing her like this did not make Princess Danielle feel better.
’Tsk, does she have any idea that my future is dependent on her? Just what is she doing?’
Princess Danielle curbed her temper and gave her sister a calm look.
"I will make an opportunity for you to stand beside Emperor Kaiden. Take it and make sure to use it well."
Danielle told her sister, and Canarie gave her a grateful look.
"Y-You will do that for me? Thank you, sister. I promise you that I will do my best."
Somehow, Princess Danielle doubted that it would help much. But still, she had to try.
’I will talk with Shuu as well. He should understand what is happening. If there is one person who can change the Emperor’s mind, it’s him.’
__________
Emperor Kaiden quickly headed to his office with Nero walking behind him. There was a lot he wanted to discuss with Nero, but he did not want to involve Shuu in this conflict.
At least, not until he was sure about everything.
"So, tell me exactly what happened and what you found."
Emperor Kaiden asked Nero as soon as they were alone and certain no one would be able to overhear them.
"There was not much at the site. The maids who were around claimed that they did not recall what happened. We are currently keeping an eye on them. As for the guards, they were also likely under something’s influence."
Nero pointed out bluntly, and Emperor Kaiden cursed under his breath.
"Also, I did feel traces of familiar power, but I cannot tell whether it is yours or the goddess’s. It all feels jumbled up."
Even Emperor Kaiden’s spell had not been able to determine what was happening. That likely meant the power used was carefully crafted.
"It seems like my other part is getting out of hand. This was not supposed to happen."
Emperor Kaiden sighed as he looked at Nero. No matter how much he tried to find the part of his soul that was the ’Demon King,’ he could not find it. There seemed to be some strange disconnect...
’I have no idea what that part of me is planning, but I have a feeling I won’t like it if I let things continue.’
