Emperor Kaiden’s office looked like a war zone no one wanted to enter. To go in was to forfeit one’s life.

The only person brave enough to enter was Liam, and that was only because he was certain he would not die today.

"Is there a reason you are here right now, Liam?"

Emperor Kaiden asked in a tense voice. The look in his eyes told Liam that he would die if he did not present the Emperor with a convincing argument right now.

But his mind felt blank, and his mouth refused to work.

"I... that is... the papers..."

Liam picked up the papers in his arms as an excuse, but even he knew that it was a weak excuse that held no credibility.

"Leave them and go..."

Emperor Kaiden told him, and Liam was about to obey when the door opened once more.

’Tsk, who is suicidal enough to enter the room at such a time? Do they have no self-preservation skills?’

Liam questioned, only to turn around and see Lady Elysia. Her face was flushed, and she did not even seem to notice the mood in the room. She simply walked toward the Emperor with a smile on her face.

"Emperor Kaiden, I have come to visit you because I missed you. May I ask for some of your time? I would like to spend it with you."

She spoke in a soft voice, and she also twisted her hair behind her ear in a gesture to appear cute. But it only made her look even more unappealing and desperate.

"Liam, get her out of here before I lose my temper."

Emperor Kaiden gave Liam the excuse he needed to get out of here, and Liam took it. He grabbed Lady Elysia’s arm and tugged her to head outside.

But the lady was far too strong and felt impossible to move.

"Lady Elysia, please follow me. Emperor Kaiden has told you he does not want you here-"

"How dare you touch me? Do you think you have the right? Let go of me right now-!"

Lady Elysia pulled her arm out of Liam’s grip and turned her attention back toward the Emperor. She reached out to touch him, and Emperor Kaiden tensed.

’This is it-! This is the end for Lady Elysia.’

Liam closed his eyes, not wanting to see someone die in front of his eyes. But Lady Elysia’s fate had other plans for her.

Her wrist was grabbed, and she was yanked toward Liam by a very familiar person.

Nero stood between Lady Elysia and Emperor Kaiden, and he looked tense. His presence snapped everyone back to the matter at hand.

"W-Who are you-"

"Kaiden, I have news for you. But I would like to be alone with you when I tell you."

Nero’s voice was tense and authoritative. It left no room for anyone else to question anything.

"Huh-! Where did you come from-"

Lady Elysia asked, but Nero had already decided to pick her up and drop her out of Emperor Kaiden’s room.

"Keep her away from this office. This is an order."

Nero was a familiar face to the guards, and they knew better than to cross him. So they nodded, and their expressions became cold.

The guards had decided to allow Lady Elysia inside because of her new status and the possibility that she was the companion of their Emperor. It was all to curry favor with her.

But if gaining her favor meant losing Nero’s favor, then the answer about what they should do was simple.

"What are you doing? Get away from the door. I need to go inside-"

"I am afraid that it is no longer possible for us to allow you inside this office. We have strict orders from Sir Nero to keep you out."

The guard told Lady Elysia, and she felt her temper flare.

"Sir Nero? Who’s Sir Nero? And how dare you stop me just because he asked you to?"

The guards exchanged uncomfortable looks with each other as they looked at the clueless lady in front of them.

Sir Nero was someone that most nobles knew. After all, he had been the Emperor’s shadow for so many years now. But Lady Elysia was behaving like she had no idea who he was.

And really, Lady Elysia had no idea. And it was all because she had never been interested in knowing about all this. Her only priority in life had been her god. No one else had ever mattered to her as much.

"My lady, I think it would be for the best if you return to your room for now."

The guard told Lady Elysia, and she looked at him with a death stare. She refused to back down.

Ultimately, it was Liam who decided to send her back.

"There is a chance that Emperor Kaiden might ask you to return home if you continue to irritate him like this and keep making enemies. It would be better if you listen to orders and comply with them."

He warned Lady Elysia, and she gritted her teeth but nodded.

With one last look back, she returned to her room, and the guards let out a relieved sigh.

"I don’t know what the goddess was thinking, sending such a person to us as Emperor Kaiden’s possible companion."

The guard asked, and Liam sighed.

"You and me both."

Emperor Kaiden asked Nero, and Nero gave him a careful look.

"I found traces of the Demon King’s awakening. But not only that, I also found traces of the goddess’s power. Are you still not able to feel the locked part of your power?"

Nero asked, and the Emperor did not reply for some time. But then he looked up at Nero and sighed.

"Recently, I have started to feel my power and the other part of my consciousness starting to move. But I cannot track it down. It’s like I am being blocked, and someone is trying to take me over."

He spoke, and Nero sighed.

"So, what should we do now?"

He asked Emperor Kaiden, and the Emperor gave him an almost blank look.
