Chapter 316: 316: Punishment

Eden had to drag himself out of the dorms and to the practice room.

He guessed people in the militaries were either not so gay or hard to seduce. Or maybe he wasn’t looking his best—I mean, he just got out of bed!

But that didn’t matter now. Eden had to figure out how he’d get through this situation without getting a punishment.

"You’re the Eden?" the general said as Eden stood before him.

People were already laughing and muttering softly behind him, obviously laughing at Eden.

Eden flashed a smile. "Yes, I am."

The man wasn’t smiling back. He clearly didn’t seem pleased at all. "Do you know what you did wrong?"

Eden blinked. "I was sleeping?"

People laughed some more from behind, and the general cast them a cold glare. They shut up.

"It’s your first day and you already neglected your responsibilities! You weren’t even prompt enough to get up and face the training or the day! Is this how you’ll become a soldier? Sleeping while the enemies attack and take down you and what you’re protecting?"

Eden didn’t really care; it wasn’t as though he wanted to be a soldier or anything. He casually said, "I’m sorry..."

"Apologizing won’t do anything here. You’ll have to accept punishment for it," the general said.

Eden blinked. He didn’t like the sound of that but asked anyway, "And what’s... the punishment?"

******

Eden knew he shouldn’t have asked, because that made them double his so-called punishment.

He spent hours running around the academy—more hours than the others. And he ran under the inspection of the general, who moved on his horse, following him around.

After hours of running, Eden proceeded with the training. Harsh training from another general. The hours of training had Eden losing every bit of his strength by the end of the day.

And so his day ended like that. With cracked bones and no breath, Eden sat down at a corner of the training ground, panting like he had escaped an apocalypse or something.

Helen brought him a jug of water. "Are you okay?"

"Do I look okay?" he asked.

She smiled. "Certainly not."

"How are you not dying from the training?" he questioned her. "You look okay."

She smiled. "Like I said, I’ve been trained by Adrian so that I’m ready for any military training."

Eden sighed. "I guess I should have prepared enough. I didn’t expect it to be this stressful. It’s literally hell."

She smiled. "Don’t worry, it’s just the first day. In a few days, you’ll get the hang of it."

*****

Eden didn’t get used to it in a few days. As a matter of fact, it got worse for him.

He seldom woke up early, and so ended up getting punished and punished. His body’s condition kept getting worse with each passing punishment.

He hated his body at the moment.

"I’ll make sure I keep punishing you until you learn this basic lesson!" The general was bent on making him feel hell.

On the days he got up early, he would feel lazy throughout the training, and sometimes even sleepy, and so end up getting punished for not being agile like the others.

Life was hell for Eden, and he knew it. The passing days didn’t seem to get better, and his body was losing itself to whatever training this was.

He wasn’t used to it. The Wizard of EL didn’t need endless training like this to get better at killing people. He had the powers that guided him.

And he most certainly wasn’t used to waking up as early as 4 AM every day!

Eden sat down at the same practice spot at the end of the day’s practice, exhausted. Helen came to sit beside him, bringing him water.

"I see you’re not getting used to it," she said. "I guess it’ll take longer for you."

"I don’t think I can take it anymore; I feel my bones breaking already," Eden cried.

Helen smiled. "Don’t worry, you’ll be okay. You’re the wizard, so of course you’ve been through worse situations after all."

Eden sighed. How could he tell her that the hardest thing this Wizard of EL had done in life was sitting through hours of classes and working at some restaurants or bars? And not engaging in months of war or something.

"I don’t think I can take it for too long. I think I need to start looking for that guy. I don’t know, I’ve been looking around and there’s no one looking like him in our newbies section..."

Eden had been on the lookout for someone who acted like a modern person thrown into an aristocratic era. But there was no sign of anyone like that.

And he didn’t have the patience to keep looking.

"Who are you even looking for? Maybe I can try helping out," Helen said.

But Eden didn’t think she could. He didn’t even know how to explain it to her. That he’s looking for the author of their lives or what? That would be absurd.

"I don’t think you’ll understand. It’s sorta... complicating," Eden said with a sigh. He hated that it was also complicating.

Helen nodded. "I see. Maybe instead of trying to look for him... you could just set some sort of trap and have him fall right into it. Something that you know could pull him in and have only you notice? Maybe that could work?"

Eden paused and found himself thinking about it. It made sense. A more active approach to looking for this person. He needed to find something to pull him in with, something that a modern person would recognize.

He smiled. "That makes sense," he nodded while he thought about it.

But then, someone walked up to them.

A tall figure clouded them as the two of them looked up at the young man standing before them. He had a bright smile on his face as he stretched out his hand to Eden for a handshake. 𝓯𝓻𝓮𝙚𝙬𝓮𝙗𝒏𝙤𝒗𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝒐𝓶
