Chapter 297: Xerath Lucivar

There was something different about the Class S students’ Offense class today.

It wasn’t that Instructor Maul suddenly changed the rule class. It was because Revan’s sparring partner wasn’t Madha this time, it was Fian.

Meanwhile, Madha stood at the edge of the field with Gara and Andine, watching the vampire-versus-elf match unfold.

"Wow~" Andine’s eyes went wide as several ice spikes shot toward Revan from seemingly nowhere. "Amazing! He can attack without being seen."

"That’s not invisibility. Fian’s using Ghost Walk," Gara explained. "He’s moving while attacking."

"Isn’t that even crazier?" Andine looked even more impressed.

Gara nodded. "Just a few months ago he said he wanted to use both his Talents at the same time."

"Headmaster Asta must’ve helped him learn how to sync them," Andine replied.

Gara had to admit, ever since Fian started training with the headmaster, his power had skyrocketed.

It was as if he’d never understood his true potential, and once he got the right guidance, everything just burst open at once.

’So Headmaster Asta wasn’t interested in him just because they’re both elves... He must’ve seen Fian’s potential from the start.’

On the field, Revan wasn’t just standing there taking hits. Beyond his wide-area attacks Talent, he made full use of his vampire traits.

His black wings unfurled, shielding him. His hearing sharpened, perfect for tracking Fian even when the elf disappeared.

Revan’s main strength lay in predicting enemy movement. His Talent wasn’t something he could activate nonstop, so he relied on reading habits.

From the very first exchange, he would memorize patterns. Once he figured out where his opponent was headed, he’d set up his attack there.

"There," he muttered.

His hand lifted, and a massive whirlwind suddenly formed overhead.

Shuu! Shuu! Shuu!

From that whirlwind, numerous blade-shaped winds attacked the targeted area. Grass was torn from the ground. The wind’s effect also made leaves from trees far beyond the field whirled up into the air, and even a few students’ hats went flying.

At last, Fian appeared under the wind stormblade, but his body was protected by large ice spikes forming a dome around him.

Andine clasped her hands together. "Come on, Fian... When Fian beat me earlier, I could feel his ice getting more and more solid."

But despite her cheer, it was clear Fian was struggling.

"Is beating Revan really that hard?" Gara murmured.

He’d been observing Revan too intently without realizing it, Revan’s status panel flicked open before his eyes.

Gara quickly tore his gaze away from [FREYA’S EVALUATION]. That goddess only ever commented without understanding the real situation.

Meanwhile, Revan’s Wind Stormblade Talent truly lived up to its reputation.

After months of sparring with Madha, where their matches always ended evenly, Revan finally managed to defeat him today.

Because of that, Fian volunteered to be the next challenger.

Madha watched the fight in silence, eyes sharp, not saying a single word.

Fian’s ice was being chipped away bit by bit by the raging winds, but Revan was also starting to tire. That was the flaw of his overwhelming Talent. Once activated, it drained his stamina brutally fast.

Even so, after a grueling training period during the break, his endurance had improved. His win against Madha was proof of that.

But Revan wasn’t the only one who had grown. Fian, who always trained alone, had suddenly become a formidable opponent.

After several minutes of intense combat, the match finally ended in a draw. Neither one emerged victorious.

Clap! Clap! Clap!

Their sparring immediately drew enthusiastic applause from the spectators. 𝒻𝑟ℯℯ𝑤𝑒𝑏𝑛𝘰𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝒸𝑜𝘮

Fian dissolved the remaining ice around him. When he turned toward Gara, the pretty man gave him a thumbs-up.

Even if he could never have Gara... being praised by him was enough to make Fian happy.

Meanwhile, Madha watched with a flat expression. His fists were tightly clenched.

Before Revan could even review the fight with Fian, someone tapped his shoulder.

"Your Talent really is impressive, Revan Soren."

Standing behind him was a devil— skin bright red, and two crimson horns jutting through his black hair.

He didn’t look anything like the terrifying devils Gara had pictured. This young devil had thick black brows, silver-gray eyes, and a smile that made him look striking and charming.

Revan instinctively took a half-step back. "Oh... it’s you, Xerath Lucivar."

He tried to act nonchalant, but Gara could easily sense Revan’s discomfort.

’Does Revan, who shares dark-rooted ancestry with devils, also dislike them?’ Gara wondered.

Then he recalled one of Miki’s many rumors about a devil from Class A named Lucivar. The name was hard to forget, especially for someone from the modern world who grew up on fantasy and mythology books.

The Lucivar family was known as pure devils, often referred to as devil nobility. Pure devils weren’t just naturally stronger, their influence extended across multiple fields.

And Xerath Lucivar was the youngest son of the current Lucivar head. He was a devil with no negative reputation at this academy.

According to Miki, he was extremely popular. One rumor Gara remembered clearly was that Xerath’s Talent allowed him to distinguish between lies and truth.

It was an intriguing Talent, but Gara had no intention of remembering any more about him. They were in different classes, their paths weren’t meant to cross.

But then, unexpectedly, Revan stopped Gara, Andine, and Madha before they could leave.

"You all will probably hear this during our end-of-week counseling, but I’ll introduce him now. Xerath Lucivar will be joining Class S."

"What?!" Andine shrieked. She turned to Gara, Madha, and Fian, who were just as shocked.

"Nice to meet you— Andine Karina, Gara Eshaan, Fian, and Madha," Xerath greeted them warmly.

The three, though startled, quickly returned the greeting.

Almost on reflex, Gara pulled up Xerath’s status panel.

’MIND READER?!’ Gara instantly averted his gaze from Xerath’s face.

Panic shot through him. ’Did he already read my thoughts? Does he know about the trip—Stop! Don’t think about them! What do I do? Does he know I know his Talent because I can see his status panel? Isn’t that Talent way too insane?!’

"He won’t know anything related to the system," Goddess Freya’s voice echoed out of nowhere.

Gara exhaled in relief, only to tense up again. ’What about my other secrets? The ones not related to the system?’

"As long as you don’t make eye contact, he can’t read your mind," Goddess Freya replied.

Gara nodded to himself. ’Ah, so it’s an eye-contact trigger.’

He quickly excused himself, grabbing Fian and Madha by their sleeves. No way he’d let Xerath read either of their thoughts.

After the brief encounter, Andine leaned closer and whispered, "I thought the one replacing Mona in Class S would be that Lion beastman from Class A—the one who lost to Vania. He ranked fourth on the exam."

"Maybe they considered something else," Gara shrugged. He truly didn’t know.

He hadn’t cared earlier, but after learning Xerath’s Talent, he suddenly wished the Lion beastman had joined instead.

His eyes drifted to Revan, walking a little ahead. Gara caught up with him and lowered his voice.

"You already knew Xerath’s Talent isn’t just telling lies from truths, right? That’s why you’re avoiding him?"

Revan stopped mid-step, startled. "How did you know?"

"I heard it from Chief Ambar," Gara said quickly—lying through his teeth. As for how Chief Ambar supposedly knew, Gara had no intention of explaining.

Luckily, Revan didn’t question it.

"I was planning to tell everyone during the counseling session later. I didn’t expect you to know already."

"Tell us what?" Andine piped in, having caught part of the conversation.

With no choice left, Revan revealed Xerath’s true Talent. The three who had never heard it before immediately froze in panic.

They all started replaying their earlier encounter with Xerath, wondering if they had thought anything stupid at the time.

"Oh—this is only for Class S students. For reasons I don’t understand either, Xerath’s Talent is kept confidential," Revan added quickly.

The four of them nodded.

"So... do we just avoid making eye contact with him forever?" Andine asked.

"We could all wear cotton head and mask cover," Gara suggested, already picturing a classroom full of students looking like low-budget movie villains.

His four classmates turned to stare at him, but none bothered responding. They simply resumed walking as if they hadn’t heard a thing.

Gara stared after them, confused, wishing he had Xerath’s Mind Reader Talent too.
