Billionaire's Long Journey of Chasing His Love-Chapter 529 - 453 Are You Ever Going to Stop! (Two more updates)
"My mom said he didn’t have time to commit the crime."
Yi Luowa frowned slightly. "I strongly suspect that he has watched the same movie I saw! There’s a type of gas—it’s colorless and odorless. Once it contaminates a corpse, it’s very hard to determine the actual time of death. The protagonist in that movie used this gas to fake the time of death."
"That explains everything now. Honey, call Mom and repeat what you just said to her again. This will help the police with their investigation."
"Okay." Yi Luowa picked up her phone and walked into the bedroom.
Just as she left, Dapeng’s call came through. "Fourth Brother, we found a diary at one of Park Shunyan’s alternate residences. It documents his horrific childhood—his stepmother was such a vile person! Also, the basement of this house is filled with jars... they’re full of human body parts. It’s like a scene from hell."
"Stay there with your team. I’ll notify the police about this immediately... Dapeng, your team didn’t manage to keep an eye on Park Shunyan, did they?"
"No. I was just about to tell you—he’s still in the compound, right?"
"He’s already escaped. Traffic police are assisting us in tracking his vehicle."
"... Fourth Brother, I just flipped through the diary. Toward the later parts, it doesn’t seem like it was written by just one person. There are at least seven or eight different handwriting styles in it."
"Dapeng, what you’re saying further confirms that the psychiatric file belongs to Park Shunyan. Those seven or eight different handwritings are the personalities he split into."
"This is beyond bizarre!"
"The world is full of wonders. We’ve all learned something new this time... I’ve got another call coming in; I’ll hang up first." Tong Airui ended the call with Dapeng and picked up the landline.
"Captain, we’ve spotted the white SUV less than two kilometers from the freeway entrance."
"What about the suspect?"
"He’s nowhere to be found."
"Keep pursuing him. No matter the cost, we must apprehend him!"
Tong Airui ended the call, then contacted the traffic police, who promptly redirected their search efforts.
After giving instructions to the traffic police, he also called the police station.
The entire morning, Tong Airui’s phone hadn’t stopped ringing.
The whole capital city was mobilized, but as the morning passed, there was still no trace of Park Shunyan.
Yōu sat idly on the sofa, playing with his phone alongside Mi Chenxuan.
Yi Luowa forced herself to concentrate on correcting some documents.
At noon, noticing that Tong Airui’s phone wouldn’t stop ringing, Yi Luowa figured he wouldn’t be able to step out for lunch, so she had food delivered from the cafeteria.
Halfway through his meal, Tong Airui’s phone rang again.
He didn’t dare delay and quickly answered, "Hello?"
"Tong Airui, guess where I am?" Park Shunyan’s laughter came through the phone.
"Where are you?! Park Shunyan, don’t do anything foolish! I already have everything I need on you. Surrender now. Someone with a mental illness like yours wouldn’t get the death penalty."
Suddenly, sobbing came through the phone. "What difference does it make if they don’t sentence me to death? I don’t have much time left anyway. Tong Airui, before I die, can you grant me a final wish?"
"What wish?"
"Let Yi Luowa hug me. Let her use her hands to touch my head."
Tong Airui immediately exploded with anger. "Don’t even think about it!" 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝒆𝒘𝙚𝓫𝙣𝙤𝒗𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢
"Haha... Didn’t I tell you he wouldn’t agree? And yet you insisted... SHUT UP! I’ll go kill that woman... EVERYONE SHUT UP! I’ll ask him one last time: if he still refuses, we’ll kill this woman!"
Several distinct voices argued on the other end of the phone. If you didn’t know better, you’d think there were multiple people over there. But after studying dissociative identity disorder, Tong Airui understood that these were the different personalities inhabiting Park Shunyan fighting for control.
"Tong Airui, you won’t even fulfill such a small wish? Then I won’t be polite anymore! Mmmph—" A woman’s muffled cries suddenly came through the phone.
"Hahaha... You know who Huo Li is, don’t you?"
Tong Airui tightened his grip on the phone. "How is Huo Li in your hands?!"
Yi Luowa shot up from her seat as soon as she heard Huo Li’s name.
Tong Airui subtly shook his head, signaling her not to approach. Then he put the call on speakerphone and continued negotiating with Park Shunyan. "You say this person is Huo Li, but how can I be sure? Let me video call her."
"Fine, I’ll grant your request!" The call ended abruptly, only to reconnect as a video call less than a second later.
The video showed Huo Li, her mouth taped shut and her body securely tied to a chair. Tong Airui assessed her condition—she seemed unharmed for now—and began scanning the background to figure out her location to plan her rescue.
Park Shunyan quickly disconnected the video, then called again just half a second later. Before Tong Airui could speak, sobbing came through once more. "Boohoo... I miss my mom. I’ve been searching for so long, and finally, I found a pair of hands exactly like hers. I want her to hold me. I want her to stroke my head."
"Tell me where you are, and I’ll bring Yi Luowa to you..."
"Only Yi Luowa may come! If I find out you’re following her, I’ll kill Huo Li!"
Tong Airui furrowed his brows tightly and didn’t respond. How could he possibly let his wife walk into such danger alone?
Yi Luowa quickly stepped forward and snatched the phone from Tong Airui. "What do I need to do to find you?"
"Exit from the north gate. There’s a yellow sports car there, with the keys under the pedal. Get in and drive onto the freeway. I’ll guide you from there."
"Fine! Park Shunyan, I’m warning you—don’t harm Huo Li! If anything happens to her, I’ll make sure you go down with her!" Yi Luowa snapped, then promptly ended the call.
Tong Airui sprang to his feet. "That man is extremely dangerous. I won’t allow you to go! I can save Huo Li without you."
"You don’t fully understand how people with dissociative identity disorder operate. Right now, it’s Park Shunyan’s original personality that’s in control. If his other identities take over and overthrow him, Huo Li will be in grave danger!"
Yi Luowa pointed to her earring. "I have this. No matter where I go, you’ll be able to track me."
She pulled a handgun from her waist. "And I have this. While I might not hit the bullseye every shot, I’m confident in hitting at least the second ring. Don’t worry. I won’t let anything happen to myself or to Huo Li until you both find us."
Tong Airui sighed deeply. "I understand how much Huo Li means to you. This time, I won’t stop you. I’ll stay close behind to protect you."
"Be careful not to let him notice," Yi Luowa cautioned.
"Understood." Tong Airui nodded.
"I’m heading out now." Yi Luowa smiled at them and briskly left the room.
"Honey, stay safe!" Tong Airui called out as he followed her to the door. "To avoid detection, there will be a three-minute gap between you and us. During that window, you have to protect yourself."
Yi Luowa nodded firmly.
As soon as she left, Yōu and Mi Chenxuan were the first to set off after her.
Tong Airui picked up his phone and traced his wife’s location before gathering the team and boarding a helicopter.
Driving onto the road, Yi Luowa followed the sporadic instructions coming through the car’s radio, zigzagging endlessly around the highway.
After Park Shunyan ordered her to exit the highway once more, Yi Luowa lost her patience.
"Park Shunyan, are you done yet?! It’s already late. I have two kids waiting for me at home, and I don’t have time to keep playing your games."
"...." The other side was silent for a long while before Park Shunyan’s voice, choked with sobs, came through again. "The beach house. I’ll be waiting for you here."
