Billionaire Legacy: I Became Overpowered With My Spending System-Chapter 59 - SSS-rank hunter
Chapter 59: Chapter 59 - SSS-rank hunter
Logan frowned, unable to identify the man at all.
"Summoned? And who are you?" he asked, his voice neutral.
The others stood around him with confused looks and raised eyebrows.
"My name is Erik Bjørnsen," the man said expressionlessly. "And I’m here on orders from Dean Falk to bring you with me regarding your special situation."
"What situation?" Grant immediately jumped in.
Erik stared at him in silence, not budging.
Before Grant could ask anything else, Logan stepped in.
"It’s fine guys," he said, giving a small nod to Erik. "I’ll be back soon."
Erik gave a small nod and turned to walk away.
Logan turned back once, giving a small smile before following after Erik.
Following after Erik, Logan’s thoughts raced.
’This could be because I need to be able to get on and off university grounds whenever possible,’ Logan thought. ’Or... it’s to discuss something regarding my affinity.’
Minutes passed in silence while they walked through endless corridors and ascended multiple sets of stairs.
Glancing through the windows, Logan realized how high up he really was.
’This should be the tenth floor or something,’ he thought, looking at the wide valley far beneath him.
"Are we almost there?" Logan asked, unable to help himself after walking for thirty minutes.
Erik remained silent, ascending another set of stairs.
"Alright then, don’t talk to me," Logan mumbled, quickly following after him.
Having reached the eleventh floor, Erik stopped in front of a large reinforced door and stared at Logan for a second.
"He’s waiting inside," Erik said, glancing Logan up and down. "This man is one of the university’s powerhouses. It would be in your best interest to speak only when spoken to."
Then, he turned around and pushed the door open.
The hair on Logan’s arms stood up instantly. A crushing pressure slammed into him, knocking the air from his lungs.
’What?’ Logan thought, gritting his teeth.
Erik gestured for him to go in, leaving him with no other choice.
Stepping through the door, the pressure on him lessened significantly.
Logan’s full attention was on the unknown man standing at a large window.
’This isn’t Andreas Falk,’ Logan thought, confused and alert.
"There’s no need to feel uneasy," the man said, turning around. "If I wanted you dead, I would’ve done so a long time ago."
A thick pressure spread through the room, cracking the ground under Logan’s feet as he gritted his teeth.
"Good," the man nodded, pulling back the pressure again.
Logan looked at the man, who appeared to be in his seventies, with long, thick white hair and a dark blue suit.
As he glanced around the room, the ancient murals of the Vermillion Bird on the wall gave him a vague idea of who the man was.
"Do you know how many SSS-rank individuals there are in the world?" the man asked, with a calm but powerful voice.
"Around two hundred, right?" Logan answered hesitantly.
Logan observed the man’s face carefully, confirming his suspicion after recognizing the man had pure red pupils and irises.
’This must be the fire affinity SSS-rank,’ Logan thought, both excited and wary.
"There are currently three hundred and sixty known SSS-ranks across all continents," the man answered.
"Each year, maybe ten more awaken. Sometimes twelve. Sometimes six. Depends on the era," the man continued.
Letting a short pause fall, he continued.
"But the number never grows much, does it?"
"No, sir," Logan answered, shaking his head slightly.
"Do you know why that is?" the man asked with a serious expression as he walked past his desk.
Logan shook his head. "I don’t," he answered.
"Wrong choices, allies, pride, timing," the man rang out. "Over half of them die before reaching a Golden Core."
He walked past Logan, then stopped.
"You’re still a Bronze Core. I was already halfway through Silver when I was your age, and I wasn’t even the fastest of the SSS-ranks," he said, shaking his head. "Why you’re this slow, I don’t know. And frankly, I don’t care."
Logan clenched his jaw slightly, but said nothing.
"I don’t have the time to babysit a Bronze Core. But I’ll keep watching," he said.
Snapping his fingers, Erik walked back through the door silently.
"From now on, he’s your responsibility," the man told Erik. "Report back once he breaks through to Silver, and provide a detailed account of his next affinity."
Turning back to Logan, the man made eye contact with him.
"Make the right choices, Mercer," he said. "It’s the only way you’ll survive in this world."
After the doors to the man’s office slammed shut, Logan felt like he could finally breathe again.
"Damn," Logan mumbled, the man’s pressure still inside his mind.
Logan glanced at Erik, who stood patiently beside him.
"What now?" Logan asked, turning to him.
Erik pulled up his hologram, displaying his contact details on it.
"These are my contact details," he said, expressionlessly. "You can contact me in case you need any help."
Logan nodded, adding Erik’s contact details to his watch.
"What kind of things can you help me with?" Logan then asked, turning off his watch again.
"I can provide extra resources and manuals for your training," he said. "And should any problems arise within the school or regarding your affinity, you need to contact me."
Without saying much more, Erik turned around to leave.
"What about sparring?" Logan asked, causing Erik to halt.
"Sparring?" Erik asked, turning around.
"Yes," Logan nodded, remembering how much sparring with Silas had benefited him. "Can you set up sparring matches for me with more experienced people?"
"I’ll have to discuss if I’m allowed to do so," Erik said, giving a small nod.
Logan gave a nod, as Erik turned around and walked away.
’So I’ll get some special benefits,’ Logan thought, also heading towards the stairs. ’But it seems my abnormality has drawn some attention.’
He’d always known that the two-year gap would come back to bite him.
’Whatever,’ Logan thought, glancing at his system interface. ’I’m sure I can catch up to other SSS-ranks with the system’s help.’
[Cooldown: 00:02:23:58]
Closing his system interface, Logan made a decision.
’After the system draw tonight, I have to start creating a separate business to earn more private money.’
’I’ll have to transfer away some money for tonight’s system draw though,’ Logan thought, smirking.
