Billionaire Legacy: I Became Overpowered With My Spending System-Chapter 58 - Professor Li Wenzhao
Chapter 58: Chapter 58 - Professor Li Wenzhao
"Good afternoon, students," their homeroom teacher said, his voice devoid of emotion. "I’m Professor Li Wenzhao, and I’ll be this class’s homeroom teacher until the end of next year."
He paused, glancing at all the students.
"As you can see, this is a large class of 250 students," he said. "Though if you’re truly meant to be here, that shouldn’t be a problem. Now, keep it quiet and pay close attention."
A girl in the front row immediately raised her hand, attracting Professor Li’s attention.
"Yes?" he said, gesturing for the girl to speak up.
"How were the classes selected, and why is ours so large?" she asked, her voice squeaking through the room.
"Second rule," he said with a slight shake of his head. "Don’t interrupt. I expect at least some baseline discipline, even in a class this size."
The girl turned red from embarrassment immediately and sat back down.
"For now, the class selection depends purely on where your assessment was taken," he said, his voice neutral again. "Therefore, this class is on the smaller side compared to other continents like Asia and Africa."
"In fact, over forty percent of the students accepted this year came from Asia," he said, glancing briefly around the room. "We had no choice but to split them up in order to maintain the quality of instruction."
Logan gave a small nod, also understanding. ’Asia has a far larger population, it wouldn’t make sense for them to have the same amount of slots as us.’
A few murmurs spread through the class, causing Professor Li to stare in silence until they quieted down.
"Next, the planned events this year," Professor Li said, enlarging a hologram at the back of the class.
"The main events are quite simple," he said. "In half a year, there’ll be the freshman competition, broadcast live around the world to showcase your talents."
"This competition also decides how many external resources and other benefits the university will grant you for your cultivation," he continued, switching the hologram to a different tab.
"Next up, the end-of-year assessment," he said, gesturing to the projector. "It’ll include a dungeon competition and a one-on-one competition."
Letting a pause fall, Professor Li smiled.
"The bottom twenty-five percent from the end-of-year assessment will be expelled," he said, smirking coldly. "This academy is not a place for stragglers."
Murmurs spread through the class once again. Even Layla turned to Grant with uncertainty in her eyes.
"Throughout the year, there are also several training exercises that can get you expelled if your results don’t meet the standard," Professor Li added, smirking. "But I’ll go into more detail about that some other day."
The murmurs grew louder, with nearly every student turning to whisper to the people around them.
Professor Li waited patiently, having already expected this reaction. frёewebnoѵel.ƈo๓
’Every year is the same, too many hopefuls, too little ability,’ he thought, his cold smirk still plastered on his face. ’At least this batch might give me fewer headaches.’
His expression changed slightly, becoming more serious as he scanned through the class.
’Still,’ he thought, glancing at the students. ’There’s a lot more talent here compared to other years.’
Falling silent, his eyes moved between a few students before locking onto two of them.
After making a mental note, he continued.
"Now," he said, voice cutting cleanly through the classroom noise. "I don’t expect all of you to last the year. But I do expect those who remain to be worthy of this institution’s name."
A few students straightened in their seats, while others glanced around uneasily.
Professor Li then swiped the hologram aside and picked up a tablet. "Your first combat evaluations begin tomorrow at 8 a.m. sharp. You’ll be ranked and paired based on your initial results from the entrance assessments."
He gave them a look that made it clear he wasn’t finished.
"And before anyone complains, yes, the rankings will be public. Get used to pressure because it’s the one thing you can always count on in this line of work."
The silence was heavy now. Layla leaned forward slightly, her fingers tightening around her pen.
"Dismissed," Professor Li said finally, turning his back and walking towards the teacher’s platform.
Logan stood up with the rest of his class but stayed quiet. Glancing at his friends, he noticed the unease in Thomas and Layla, while Grant and Robert looked excited.
’So this is how it starts,’ Logan thought, smiling as he slipped his hands into his pockets. ’I can’t wait.’
Walking after the others, he felt his heart beat rapidly from the excitement.
Stepping out into the hallway, Logan and his group split off from the other students.
"Did you hear that?" Grant immediately started loudly. "They’re really kicking out twenty-five percent after the first year? This school is the real deal!"
Layla and Thomas gave him awkward smiles.
"What’s wrong?" Grant asked, confused.
"You have it easy with your S-rank talent," Thomas said, smiling bitterly. "For us, this will be a fight for our lives."
As if a lightbulb had switched on above his head, Grant nodded, understanding how insensitive he’d been.
Grant scratched the back of his head, his grin faltering.
"Right... sorry. I didn’t mean it like that," he said, his voice a bit softer.
Layla gently took Grant’s arm, giving it a small squeeze. "I know you didn’t mean it badly," she said, her tone soft but firm. "But sometimes you speak before thinking."
Thomas shrugged, eyes distant. "They’re already talking about expelling the bottom twenty-five percent. I’m not even sure where I rank."
They walked in silence for a moment, the mood noticeably heavier.
Logan, who had stayed quiet the entire time, finally spoke.
"You’ll be fine," he said, not looking at them. "Each of you ranked above average on the assessments. Just continue training and you’ll make it."
Before the others could respond, sudden loud footsteps echoed from behind them.
"Logan Mercer?" a deep voice called out.
Everyone turned around. Behind them stood a tall, muscular man with short blond hair and multiple deep scars running across his face. He wore a tailored black uniform and had a serious expression.
"Come with me," the man said, confirming it was Logan after a glance. "You’ve been summoned."
