Billionaire Legacy: I Became Overpowered With My Spending System-Chapter 54 - Spar
Chapter 54: Chapter 54 - Spar
Before long, Logan noticed a group of judges step onto a large podium at the far end of the arena, silencing every student in the common seats below. freeweɓnovel~cѳm
’It’s about to start,’ Logan thought, bumping Robert with his arm to gain his attention.
Complete silence fell as two students walked onto the arena.
On one side, a girl with a short hairstyle, holding a rapier with a cold expression.
On the other side, a short boy holding a dagger in each of his hands with a wide smirk.
’They seem to be talking to each other,’ Logan thought, watching their mouths open and close. ’Too bad this box has noise cancelling.’
Suddenly, all advertisements vanished from the arena displays. One of the juries stood up, gesturing towards the arena with her hand.
Trees grew from the ground at random places, covering over half of the field. At the same time, Logan noticed tiny floating devices swirling through the artificial forest.
The screens above the arena and inside the elite podium changed, only showing two names.
’’Anna Ivanov VS Lucas Müller.’’ The screen flashed, before switching over to a 10-second cooldown.
’I wonder how strong students who’ve been here for four years are,’ Logan thought, tuning out the noise around him.
The second the cooldown hit zero, Lucas vanished into a shadow while Anna dashed forward with lightning crackling around her feet.
At the same time, the feed from the screens changed to spectate both Anna and Lucas.
Anna looked around patiently as she dashed forward. Not seeing Lucas, she raised her rapier in the air, creating a small light source that got rid of any shadows around her.
Suddenly, she leaned back, just barely managing to dodge a murky purple liquid.
’Poison,’ Logan thought, raising an eyebrow. ’That’s quite a rare element.’
The murky liquid dissolved the tree behind Anna while she stabbed towards Lucas’s position with her rapier.
A single lightning beam shot out, scorching through the trees, but Lucas had long since retreated to the shadows again.
Lucas stayed hidden, carefully positioning himself before throwing multiple poison liquids towards Anna.
This time, Anna was ready, dodging thanks to her increased speed before sending a light beam straight towards Lucas.
The beam pierced through Lucas instantly, shocking everyone—except Anna. She spun around and released an electric field behind her where another Lucas approached.
Surprised, Lucas jumped back, his shadow clone still fading away in the distance.
The fight continued for minutes with Lucas and Anna continuously making moves against each other. Lucas kept his distance, slowly withering down Anna’s mana until she had none left to defend herself.
’That’s it,’ Logan thought, watching Lucas place a dagger at her throat after appearing out of a shadow.
’’Victor, Lucas Müller.’’ The screens flashed as cheers erupted from the spectators.
Many stood up, clapping for the impressive display of intelligence and strategy during the battle.
’’Amazing,’’ Robert mumbled, glancing at Lucas.
Glancing at Robert, Logan remembered. ’He also had a shadow affinity,’ he thought. ’This fight must’ve been helpful for him.’
What impressed Logan wasn’t just the duel, but the university itself.
’They let students watch duels like this for free,’ he thought. ’This gives insight to students of the same affinity.’
’And they make it sustainable by taking a small cut from every bet,’ he thought.
Thomas stood up first, a sour expression on his face.
’’What happened?’’ Robert asked him quietly.
’’Don’t worry about it,’’ Thomas said, forcing a smile. ’’Just lost some money on the bet.’’
Walking out of the elite spectators room, Grant walked beside Logan.
’’So... do you still want to spar?’’ he asked, grinning.
’’Sure,’’ Logan nodded, smiling.
Descending another stone staircase, they walked through some corridors before they arrived at a corridor with training rooms on each side.
These training rooms were much smaller and clearly built for personal sparring, nothing like the one he’d just visited.
The training room was the size of a small house, which was just enough space for low-level cores like them.
A small viewing box stood to the side, allowing up to ten people to watch, provided the trainees gave permission.
’’Do you want to spar with or without using mana?’’ Grant asked him after they entered the training room.
’’Let’s do it without,’’ Logan said, not willing to show the strange properties his flame had just yet.
’’Alright,’’ Grant nodded, tapping a few buttons on a device embedded inside the wall.
Weapon racks slowly emerged from the floor, displaying a variety of weapons. Beside them, a chest with strange buttons rose into view just as the door sealed shut behind them.
’’What’s this?’’ Logan questioned, picking up a button.
’’It’s a protection device,’’ Grant said, picking one up. ’’If you press it against your chest, a strong but thin mana shield will surround your body.’’
Pressing it tightly on his chest, Logan noticed a thin blue shield spread over Grant’s body.
’’Impressive,’’ Logan nodded, also pressing it on his chest.
’’They’ll flash a red light if one of us is hit,’’ Grant said, picking up a greatsword and walking to the back of the training area.
Logan nodded, searching through the weapons rack for a glaive.
’It really isn’t a popular weapon,’ he thought, mildly annoyed. The glaive was always hidden at the very end, behind other weapons.
He could understand it though. The glaive was more complex than a regular spear and rarely suited someone’s body or affinity.
Finally finding one, Logan picked it up while the weapons rack sunk into the ground again as a plate shifted out and covered it up.
’’Are you ready?’’ Grant asked, still holding his greatsword over his shoulder.
’’Sure am,’’ Logan said, swinging his glaive around a little with a grin.
Grant immediately advanced towards Logan, swinging his greatsword down with impressive strength.
Logan let the greatsword slide off his shaft before sweeping down for one of Grant’s legs.
Grant stumbled back, still holding his greatsword with a smile.
"Good," he said, a maniacal grin spreading across his face.
