Chapter 97: I Hate You

Valerio paused. He looked up at her.

"Sweetie, you know I can’t do that. For now, you have to stay this way. Maybe in the future, if you please me enough, I might decide to untie your hands. For now, I don’t trust you."

Her throat worked in a quick swallow.

So all she had to do was get him to trust her? Would she have a chance of escaping if she could do that?

Her chest pounded at the thought alone.

She had yet to figure out just where they were though. In what city were they?

Walking her out of the room into the dining room, Valerio pulled the chair out for her, helping her sit down. He took the seat nearest to her as Lucas proceeded to fill the table with dishes and the pasta she wanted.

"What do you think?" he asked. "Do you love what you see?"

Evelyn glanced at the delicacies on the table. She loved food, but looking at these, she didn’t have a single appetite.

"Go on, eat," he said to her.

She leveled him with a tired look. "And how will I do that Valerio. You have my hands tied."

Valerio thoughtfully tapped his index finger on the table. He said, "I’ll untie your hands, but only on one condition, Evelyn."

"Which is?"

"I want you to dance with me after this meal."

"Wh...what?" She was confused. "Dance with you?"

"Yes." The man smiled, crossing his feet. "I remember at the event, you couldn’t stand dancing with me. You had your eyes completely on Zayne Mancini and the one time you were in my arms, he was all you could think of. I felt how you wanted to be away from me, to get out of my hold, and that unfortunately made it hard for me to enjoy the little dance you and I had together. You broke my heart..."

She stared at him. Long and hard.

"You’ve completely lost your mind, Valerio."

"Have I?"

He chuckled.

"You don’t get it, Evelyn. You’re mine. You belong to me and it drives me crazy that another man owns your heart. I try to do everything for you, I try to approach you in a romantic way, in any way at all you might desire, but each time, you keep shutting me down over and over again. I had had enough. And that’s simply why we are in this situation."

He shrugged. "If you’d just said yes to me, I wouldn’t have had to do this. I would have loved you like you deserved to be loved. I’d do anything and we’d be happy together."

Evelyn’s hands balled, clasped behind her back. "I don’t love you. And I never will."

"That’s the problem." He rolled his shoulder. "You are so mean to me. But I don’t really care anymore. I’m the type of person who when I want something, I make it mine, Evelyn. And I’m going to make you mine. Eventually."

His smile grew.

"Now, do you agree with my condition, or would you like to keep starving? I’d suggest you be careful of the remarks you make. I can be awfully violent if you push me, Evelyn, and I’d rather you not. I want to treat you nicely, so don’t provoke me."

Her throat worked in a swallow and she let out a deep breath. "Fine. Whatever you want."

"Good girl. That’s what I’d like to hear."

He smiled at her and snipped at the rope with a knife, letting her hands free. For the first time in a while, she felt like she could breathe. Her arms were cramping, and her wrists felt so numb.

Taking a deep breath, she turned toward her dinner and proceeded to eat with a fork and knife.

But throughout the meal, the only thing she could think of was hurting Valerio with the knife or the fork. If she did, she could run, she could escape this place.

The chef, Luca who stood by the side was however staring at her with a look that said, ’Don’t even think about it’

He knew what was going on in her head and she’d never even met him before. His eyes glided around the building, and following them, she suddenly realized something.

While there weren’t many men in this building like on that island, there were still enough in this place, probably on guard.

That meant that if she even moved an inch to hurt Valerio, she’d be shot dead.

You’ve got to be kidding me.

That was why the chef had warned her. He knew.

Inhaling to soothe down her anger, she smiled at Valerio who was watching her, and continued to eat, forcing herself to enjoy the force that she could barely taste.

By the time she’d finished eating, Valerio was already on his feet, his hand extended out to her.

"What...?" she asked. freewebnσvel.cѳm

"Didn’t we agree you’d dance with me?" Valerio asked.

Her face fell. Right... The dance.

She forced herself to take his hand and he pulled her up to her feet.

"Come with me." He walked her out of the dining room toward an empty bright white coloured room. It looked like a music room with a piano and a retro recorder by the side.

"Give me a second."

Evelyn watched Valerio approach the recorder and proceed to play a song. The song...that the guest had danced to at her event.

What was he doing? Why was he doing this?

"Think of it like we’re at the event. I’d love to have the full experience with you," Valerio said as he walked back to her, grabbing her hand. He dropped his other hand on her waist, while she grabbed at his shoulder, unwilling to meet his eyes.

She was barefoot and could feel just how cold the marble floor was.

Slowly, on calculated steps, he began to move across the floor with her and she moved along with him even as she didn’t want to.

The only thing she could focus on was his hands on her. His touch—she hated it. Every part of her shuddered, but in disgust. She felt nauseated.

But she couldn’t do a thing, couldn’t even avoid his gaze that was stuck on her face.

"Look at me, Evelyn. Don’t stare away. I want your eyes on me."

"I hate you..." she murmured at him before she could think. "I hate you so much."
