Chapter 305: Chapter 31 The Exploration of Great Demon Lake
Li Yan’s gaze swept over the Super Sensitive Yak Warrior, and the Han Sword in his hand unconsciously lowered.
“This is a living corpse, and it’s a fourth-tier?”
In front of him was a dirty little girl, around thirteen or fourteen years old, wearing a dirty dress, with light golden hair, delicate and tight skin, which was incongruous with the blood and radiation-filled ruins surrounding her. Her deep black eye circles and lips gave her a fallen, gothic lolita style, but no matter what, Li Yan found it hard to associate the girl with the hideous and fierce living corpses.
The two stood at the edge of the rooftops of two buildings, and the Super Sensitive Yak Warrior was also sizing up Li Yan.
“You are not a Wandering Deity.”
She said coldly.
Li Yan held his right wrist with his left hand, and with a flick upwards of the Ring Dragon Sword, he did not answer her question but talked to himself, “I’ve heard that Ramu Jue, the leader of Medicine Buddha, is the only fourth-tier soldier in Zone B. I didn’t expect to find a fourth-tier in the Great Demon Lake, and it seems, not just one… No wonder all of Kuang Zhuoma’s men were annihilated.”
A fourth-tier soldier is a distinct watershed.
The infrastructure required to develop fourth-tier genetic abilities, as well as the financial and manpower costs, are astronomical. Even today, in the whole of Winter, only the three major powers can afford it.
Aside from various missiles and fighter jets as heavy military weapons, soldiers who solely rely on genetic mutations to achieve a fourth-tier rating might not need to possess destructive capabilities that can match modern military equipment of the same tier. However, they are irreplaceable in certain aspects of warfare.
In the early days of Winter, when chaos reigned, the names of the three major powers were not yet known, and people hadn’t snapped out of the shadow of the apocalyptic war.
Latterly, the embryonic form of Pompeii Armaments, then called “Pompeii Biotech and Los Alamos Experimental Alliance,” developed the first fourth-tier genetic potion in the sixth year of Winter, named “Prometheus,” with an implicit meaning.
The first person to take “Prometheus” and successfully adapt was an Austrian girl, also the first human in history with fourth-tier genetic abilities. She didn’t gain the physique of a super soldier, instead, she exhibited an almost terrifying ability to infiltrate all electronic devices. Using their own designed and assembled missile systems, she alone destroyed residual powers of several defense technology companies that attempted to dispute Pompeii’s authority. She even stole and destroyed countless confidential files from other armament companies’ computers.
At that time, among military organizations that could have a significant impact on Winter, a joke was going around: the fire of Prometheus could ignite any company’s data terminal, except for Black Star’s mechanized units, because their data was recorded on grass paper and with abacuses…
Of course, there were also combat-oriented fourth-tier soldiers with immense destructive capabilities, more flexible than missiles and fighter jets, less detectable, and just as immensely deterrence.
In any case, in this dark and turbulent era, where the average lifespan doesn’t exceed forty years and even has a trend of becoming shorter, the development of fourth-tier genetic soldiers, to a certain extent, determines the direction of the future evolution and survival of humankind and is not easily leaked.
After the three major powers settled the dust and each possessed their fourth-tiers, or equipment capable of resisting fourth-tier abilities, the situation became more stable.
It wasn’t until a few years ago that Pompeii Armaments and Yunhai Pharmaceuticals reached cooperation, and only through Yunhai Pharmaceuticals were a few doses of the “Prometheus” potion leaked out. Other than that, no one has heard of a fourth-tier genetic abilities person being leaked out from outside the three major powers.
So even today, some people in Zone B question the authenticity of Ramu Jue’s fourth-tier abilities, suspecting him of fraud.
But today, Li Yan saw with his own eyes that fourth-tier genetics were not monopolized by the three major powers.
On hearing the name “Medicine Buddha,” the eyes of the Super Sensitive Yak narrowed, and her pale fists clenched together, involuntarily giving off the impression of fierce determination, like facing the tumultuous surge of molten lava.
“The Iron Lady told me that you are a fourth-tier…”
“Iron Lady?” Li Yan raised his chin, quickly understanding, “Vera?”
Li Yan was referring to the dual-pistol wielder, the living female corpse that ran away earlier, also known as Winter Yak. Vera was the name on her identity card.
“It seems you already know something.”
“Kuang Zhuoma could not hire a fourth-tier soldier to serve them; you must have another purpose.” The Super Sensitive Yak stared at Li Yan. “I don’t know what you hope to find in the Great Demon Lake, but I can tell you, it will certainly be more difficult than you imagine.”
After listening to her words, Li Yan pondered, and a different idea flashed through his mind.
“I’m a Wilderness Hunter…”
“No one believes that.”
The Super Sensitive Yak interrupted Li Yan.
“Believe it or not, I always pursue profit… Someone offered a handsome price for your genetic samples, and I’m simply following orders.”
“Tanya Mining or Black Star chariot? Hmph, they’ll make their move sooner or later.”
Li Yan shook his head, “My employer is from Shuishu Park.”
Having said that, he carefully watched the girl’s reaction.
Her face suddenly became extremely calm, “Shuishu Park?”
She fell silent for a while, and the atmosphere instantly cooled. Eventually, the Super Sensitive Yak muttered, “Lunatics.”
Initially, her attitude toward Li Yan revealed a hint of retreat, but upon hearing “Shuishu Park,” that reticence instantly vanished, replaced by an uncontrollable chill and anger.
She clenched the hem of her dress and suddenly pulled out a black Gatling gun, drowning the rooftop where Li Yan stood in a deluge of azure flames.
Li Yan’s steps shifted to dodge the flames, soaring like an eagle and lunging like a flying serpent. The deadly stream of metallic flame in the Super Sensitive Yak’s hands swayed like a sinuous blue fire whip but couldn’t touch a hair on Li Yan’s body. It merely erupted into blue sparks at his feet.
In a single breath, Li Yan leapt from over the Super Sensitive Yak’s right shoulder, his sword light like a fierce white comet, slashing from above and mangling the scorching gun barrel, cutting through the Super Sensitive Yak’s dress hem as well.
The Super Sensitive Yak leaped awkwardly, both hands futilely clutching the stub of the gun barrel. Li Yan raised his eyes to her face, where the shadow of a majestic iceberg in his pupils became increasingly clear.
Blood Dip was activated.

Kuang Zhuoma Frontline Base.
Liang Wei laid out some old documents obtained from Kuang Zhuoma alongside materials granted by his superiors, scanning them ten lines at a time.
“I think I understand what Great Demon Lake is…”
Liang Wei smiled wryly, marking out the black-lined sections in the documents from top to bottom.

Originally from Tanya Mining’s “Radio” exploration team logs: We can now be certain that near the Great Demon Lake ruins, once part of the Great Pre-Soviet military base, there are significant signs of intelligent life activities. They not only have a profound understanding of the harsh winter but have also stolen some of the “Endless Yak” research findings from the Great Demon Lake ruins. After personal verification, these creatures not only possess a relatively complete armament system but have also found numerous unexplored Yak gene samples, and it’s even possible to locate the lost Yak gene algorithm, greatly advancing the extrapolation process of the fifth-order gene map.
This area is highly dangerous, and its value is unprecedented. I suggest the following…
