Becoming the Villainess: I Dominate the Cultivation Realm with My Wok!-Chapter 468
On the way to the kitchen, there wasn’t anything particularly dangerous in sight, but occasionally there were some strange shadows in certain places, clustered together and motionless.
Chen Muxue speculated that these were likely representations of women who had stayed in the forbidden area for a long time. To the young Chu Wuxin, their numbness made them seem like shadows with very little presence, possessing only the faintest shape but unable to do anything.
Arriving at the kitchen, the door was ajar, which made Chen Muxue raise her guard. Given that she had recently stabbed someone through a crack, she didn’t dare to casually peek through the door gap.
The kitchen window was open. Ancient kitchens didn’t have good ventilation equipment, so to prevent the cooking smoke from being too overwhelming, they would usually open the window. Considering ventilation and other factors, once the window was open, it would rarely be closed.
Therefore, even though it wasn’t a peak cooking time, the kitchen window was still open while the door was ajar. If it was meal time, the door would generally be open too, not just for smoke ventilation but also for delivering dishes, especially soupy ones, as a closed door might be inconvenient.
The open window offered a much better view than the door gap. Chen Muxue first glanced through the window from a distance. It seemed there were no monsters inside, so she cautiously stretched her head to look in.
Unexpectedly, not only were there no monsters in the kitchen, but there was a rather kind-looking old lady chopping something.
Apart from that, there seemed to be nothing else present.
Chen Muxue’s gaze first swept over the pot on the stove. She immediately recognized it as an ordinary pot, not her iron pot, which disappointed her slightly. However, her attention quickly focused on the kitchen knife in the old lady’s hand.
Being a bit far away, she couldn’t see what was being chopped, but she could tell the knife was exceptionally sharp, slicing through things without the slightest pause.
The sun was gradually setting in the west, and Chen Muxue had a vague feeling that if she waited until it was dark, something even more terrifying might happen. After hesitating for a moment, she decided not to wait for the old lady to come out. Besides, if she waited until meal time and the old lady was still busy inside, she might have to face even more.
So Chen Muxue tightly gripped the hairpin, her small hand hidden in her sleeve, and quietly approached the kitchen door: "Is anyone there?"
"Hey!"
Inside, there was a burst of clatter. As soon as the old lady heard a voice, she quickly put down what she was doing, wiped her hands clean, and came over.
The kitchen door creaked open, the old lady’s smile crinkling her face into wrinkles: "It’s you."
Although the old lady wasn’t very tall, Chen Muxue, using Chu Wuxin’s ten-year-old body, still had to tilt her head slightly to look at her. This angle accentuated her appearance of being aggrieved and innocent: "Granny, could you give me something to eat? I’m so hungry."
Her eyes quickly scanned the old lady’s hands, which were empty of the kitchen knife, allowing her to breathe a slight sigh of relief.
The kind old lady, upon hearing this, immediately invited her in: "You’re a good child, come on, Granny will cook you a bowl of noodles."
Chen Muxue didn’t understand the connection between being hungry and being a good child. She just obediently followed behind the old lady, while her eyes didn’t miss any opportunity to scrutinize the surroundings.
It appeared to be a very ordinary kitchen.
Upon stepping into the kitchen, Chen Muxue’s body suddenly felt a sense of warmth. This warmth seemed to emerge from her heart, even warming her previously cold hands and feet.
