Becoming Rich with Daily Scavenging APP-Chapter 486: Belgrade
"My good brother, so reliable." Schaefer enthusiastically led Chen Yiyang out of the airport.
"I was so anxious waiting for you here."
"The way you say that," Chen Yiyang glanced at Schaefer, suddenly thought of something, and asked, "By the way, where did you stay last night?"
"At a hostel." Schaefer shrugged, "It was a mixed dorm. I originally thought there would be pretty girls in the room to chat with on those tiny beds.
But it was just big guys, one after another, not a single girl. What the hell. When I was young and traveling abroad, the hostels had an even gender ratio. What’s up with the young people today?"
"Did you go bankrupt again?" Chen Yiyang looked at Schaefer in disbelief.
He had guessed earlier, seeing Schaefer’s enthusiasm, that maybe Schaefer was planning to crash at his hotel room.
But he didn’t expect Schaefer was already staying at a hostel?
"It’s not that serious," Schaefer seemed indifferent and said, "I have a new girlfriend, which costs quite a bit. Plus, I bought a house in France. The remaining money was put into my project in India.
So when it comes to inconsequential things, I save where I can. Here in Serbia, not many people know me anyway, so I’m not afraid of losing face."
"That’s fine then," Chen Yiyang nodded.
He and Schaefer were very close business partners, so he didn’t mind covering Schaefer’s hotel bill.
Chen Yiyang stayed at the Belgrade Square No.9 Hotel. 𝗳𝗿𝐞𝕖𝘄𝗲𝕓𝗻𝚘𝚟𝕖𝐥.𝚌𝕠𝕞
The hotel is considered one of the most luxurious in Belgrade. However, from the outside, it looked unremarkable, like an old apartment building, though thankfully the service was good.
After checking in, Chen Yiyang didn’t rush to contact the friend introduced by Liu Lao locally.
Instead, he took a bodyguard and Schaefer out to explore and take in the local culture of Serbia.
Serbians, at first glance, didn’t look much different from ordinary European people, and they were generally quite enthusiastic, with high average standards of courtesy.
In domestic history books, the most famous Serbian is undoubtedly the legendary assassin who killed the Crown Prince of the Austria-Hungary Empire, sparking World War I.
Perhaps because of history, though considered Europeans, Serbians don’t particularly like European countries led by England, France, and Germany.
That’s why Schaefer, with his typical German appearance, wasn’t very welcomed here.
But several Serbians on the street, when seeing Chen Yiyang’s Asian face, came up and, after inquiring about his nationality, warmly chatted with him.
The welcome Chen Yiyang received here was much greater than in countries like Uzbekistan.
This is another characteristic of Serbia: the general public tends to have a favorable view of Russia and Huaxia.
However, Serbia’s official government, in a crowd of quirky little countries in Europe, belongs to a very normal government and has continuously tried to maintain a balance between China, Russia, and Europe and America, striving not to offend either side to not affect Serbia’s normal development.
This attitude made Chen Yiyang very interested in investing in Serbia.
The pragmatic government tends to focus more on economic development, making it less likely for them to whimsically change policies often.
However, Serbia isn’t perfect.
Firstly, geographically, Serbia is located on the Balkan Peninsula.
This place used to be the powder keg of Europe, with almost all sorts of conflicts and wars related to it.
In modern times, it’s become the center of gangs and various organized crimes in Europe.
In the famous crime action film series "Taken," the man who kidnaps the special forces protagonist’s daughter belongs to a crime organization from the Balkan Peninsula.
However, fortunately, Serbia is among the countries in the Balkan Peninsula with relatively better security.
"The infrastructure here seems to be an issue," Chen Yiyang noted after taking a look around.
He realized Serbia’s infrastructure remained at a level that was decades in the past, with hardly any areas undergoing extensive modern renovations.
"Come on," Schaefer spread his hands and said, "this is Europe, after all. Those small countries in Eastern Europe only need to send people to England, France, and Germany for work to swiftly increase their own GDP to a developed country level. Who’d care about infrastructure?"
"That’s true," Chen Yiyang nodded in agreement.
Many small European countries seem to have high GDPs, but their national infrastructure is all a mess.
They resemble domestic remote places, offering cheap labor, raw materials, and market to prosperous coastal areas.
However, England, France, and Germany provide little support for these countries in terms of infrastructure development, causing them to find developing their own industries extremely difficult.
If England, France, and Germany made some efforts, Europe’s demand for Huaxia products wouldn’t be so big.
"Let’s go, I’ll introduce you to my friends here in Serbia."
After visiting Serbia, Schaefer took Chen Yiyang to a restaurant.
After a call, several middle-aged men soon arrived at the restaurant.
Schaefer introduced them to Chen Yiyang.
These individuals were officials responsible for attracting investments in Serbia.
Chen Yiyang had a brief conversation with them, and they were very interested in his investment ideas.
Because it was a private conversation, the Serbian officials spoke very candidly about what should and shouldn’t be said.
The bad news about investing in Serbia: officials here require a certain amount of bribery.
Like many small countries, Serbian officials lack oversight and take government roles to make money.
However, the good news is Serbian officials are reasonable; if you pay, they’ll get things done, and bribery is collected once in full payment without demanding more before completing a task.
Therefore, the business risk is predictable, and there’s no worry about paying bribes only for the officials to renege a few years later.
After sending the Serbian officials away, Schaefer said to Chen Yiyang, "See, I told you investing here is worthwhile. As long as you set up an electric car factory here, the cars can be directly sold to any European Union country. The market could be huge."
"I’ll wait until my survey team arrives and then finalize the decision after evaluating."
"It’s all up to you, just take care of my accommodations and meals, and I’ll stick around with you in Serbia."
After enjoying the spa services at the Serbian hotel with Schaefer,
the next day, Chen Yiyang checked his phone.
