Becoming a Monster-Chapter 283: When a Battlefield Becomes a Playground
Chapter 283: Chapter 283: When a Battlefield Becomes a Playground
Fenrir didn’t need to hear more. Already in his transformed state, he burst away from the group to the furthest end of the battlefield. There was a sense of urgency in his behavior. On their way there, he had the privilege to be the first to merge with Noah. Facing their combined strength, their opponents were unable to even penetrate through their defense. And with a casual swipe, the air generated from their claws was able to tear multiple creatures to shreds. The power they wielded was undeniable.
But there was a problem, without a proper opponent, he and Noah were unable to showcase the true potential of their fusion.
As Fenrir was thinking, his claws dung harder into the ground, his body glowed a fiery red as the fire within him threatened to be released with each huff of his overstimulated breaths. What if Noah preferred to merge with Arachne instead of him?
He didn’t think of it before, but Arachne’s taunts had laid the doubt into the back of his mind that wouldn’t go away. Fenrir didn’t believe there was a greater honor than being Noah’s shield, but that was before he experienced the sensation and the privilege of merging with him.
Now, he had already made the decision. On the off chance that Arachne’s fusion with Noah performed better than their own. He had to showcase his individual power to Noah. He had to make Noah see that there was no better choice than him. Not once did he think of Ailetta as being his rival. The moment Ailetta was marked as his master’s mate, there was no reason to see her as competition; for Fenrir, hierarchy was everything.
But there was another who was just as antsy to prove themselves, but not for the same reason.
As Fenrir was almost upon the first zombie, a zombie that was acting oblivious to its surroundings, unmoving the moment they showed up had suddenly moved.
The odd zombie didn’t aim for one of the humans struggling against a unique zombie, nor did it aim for Fenrir whose presence was undeniable. Instead, it attacked that very unique zombie. The Unique zombie in question was a zombie whose transformation made it take on the appearance of an armed officer. Its skin was that of a SWAT uniform, the helmet melded into its cranium that made it almost impossible to destroy its claw.
The armor infused skin made it impervious to bullets, even swords were unable to penetrate it. Without overwhelming brute force it seemed that the zombie was invincible. Its left arm cut short, replaced with a riot shield where its skin fused with it, doubling its size with its own flesh.
It was fighting against a woman who had two mutated dogs. A Pitbull that was built like a bodybuilder and as large as a minivan was pressed against the shield, its growls snarling viciously to bite into the zombie. Meanwhile, streaks of lightning zoomed past the zombies legs, small shocks of strong electricity would run throughout the zombie, showing just how much voltage each shock contained.
To most observers, the blur was impossible to decipher. But to those with sharp enough senses, it was a snow-white husky. Its fur bristled with golden-blue energy, with jagged patches sparking violently across its body. Each point generates constant surges of electricity.
Its attacks were enough to cripple a normal adversary but the zombies’ uniformed flesh was seemingly working as both armor and a conductor.
With the woman already being awakened, she was able to reach the requirement to upgrade her taming skill, unlocking the ability to have three creatures. However, a few meters away was a zombie whose appearance was that of a bipedal creature, its body was bloated, while its flesh was burnt almost beyond recognition. Besides it was a mangled mess of a corpse, if the woman didn’t witness its death with her own eyes, she wouldn’t be able to tell that the creature was her third beloved dog.
Without time to grieve she knew how to face a zombie that wasn’t necessarily stronger, but its traits almost countered her pets strengths.
That’s when she saw a scene that bewildered her, another zombie that she assumed was frozen from someone’s ability had rejoined the fight, but instead of aiming for her, like most non-unique zombies do; the zombie approached the back of the uniformed zombie and began to try to eat through its armored flesh.
At first, she thought it was another ploy by someone else’s ability, but she quickly disregarded the notion. If someone had an ability to control zombies, then it wouldn’t make sense for them to only use it now, not when so many lives were lost. So she then began to believe the next logical explanation, she was hallucinating. freeweɓnøvel~com
When she began to doubt herself, that’s when she felt minor trembles from the ground before she saw a giant monstrous wolf running in her direction. The scene was even more surreal than the zombie attacking its own. Under her gaze she could see the ground being torn apart from the wolves’ powerful strides and yet the small quakes didn’t match what she was seeing, it further strengthened her idea that she was becoming delusional.
The wolf approached too fast, within seconds it had already approached behind the unique zombie. The woman watched as the wolf enveloped the toughest part of the zombie’s body in its jaws. If her strongest dog couldn’t bite through its armored flesh then there was no way that the wolf could bypass the zombie’s helmet infused skull.
Yet she heard it, a crack, not one, not two, but a number of cracks sounded off in quick succession that made it all sound as if it was just one sound. She couldn’t believe her eyes when she saw the unique zombie not moving while the wolf simply swiped at the remaining zombie with a causal flick of its claws, decapitating it as if it was a minor inconvenience before it left the woman to her own confusion.
While the woman was unable to get herself to respond, her partners rose to the occasion to defend their owner. Their loyalty only grows stronger after their mutations. But the moment the two creatures bared their fangs towards Fenrir, Fenrir’s pupils dangerously narrowed towards them, a dangerous glint was followed by an admonishing grunt before it continued to its next target. Under his stare, the two dogs froze, their tails momentarily stood up on end.
The two were no different than statues, but the moment Fenrir retrieved his gaze and continued to move, the dogs regained clarity, once again finding their voice and courage as they growled menacingly towards his back.
As Fenrir ran amuck against both unique and regular zombies alike, Eve was in the distance, her eyes were filled with annoyance as her gaze was locked on the massive destroying every zombie that was under her control.
Unlike the others, she wasn’t able to merge with Noah since her bond was different than the others. Not only that, Ailetta had told her everything about what happened the past night, how she tried to take the vial of blood, even about how she attempted to attack Noah.
Since her metamorphosis into a vampire, her intelligence had risen. Since last night and during the time they had traveled here, not once had Noah pampered her. And now the others had a way to grow even closer to him? Just like Fenrir, she wanted to gain Noah’s attention, by using the other zombies she could influence to do significant damage to the stronger zombies in the area.
The plan was perfect, she would be the biggest contributor in the fight, as long as Ailetta didn’t make her move. But now she was watching Fenrir destroy the plan right in front of her eyes. For a moment, a strong sense of mischief was beginning to reflect in her eyes, thoughts of making all of the zombies attack Fenrir began to surface.
When the thoughts were growing stronger, she felt a playful, yet firm knock on her forehead that belonged to the person she looked up to the most besides Noah.
"Eve, I know what you’re thinking, but you need to learn to think of the whole picture." Ailetta spoke as someone with unfathomable wisdom in Eve’s perspective. Her tone was one of someone that was scolding her, and yet the spiteful gaze Eve once had was now looking up towards Ailetta with expectation.
Ailetta looked down towards the dazzling eyes looking up towards her. The screams in the background, the strong smell of blood, feeling Noah’s excitement for battle, and now enjoying the moments of bonding with the girl she has come to see as a little sister; Ailetta felt pure bliss, her tone becoming more playful as she continued.
"If you attack Fenrir with those weak things, you’ll only make it easier for him to kill them all. You’re only helping him. But....Why don’t you bring them all to us instead?" After revealing her true colors, Ailetta wore a mischievous smile.
"Don’t worry," She added after seeing Eve’s scrutinizing gaze. "I’ll make sure all the credit goes to you."
Eve’s smile beamed as the two set their plan in motion. But as the two were enjoying themselves, a powerful, yet familiar aura halted their scheming plans. Noah and Arachne’s merge was complete, and so was the Kaiju’s transformation.
