The battle was still going on, and Marissa returned her attention to the grimace crabs.

By using her Dark Mandala vines, Marissa cleared a radius of 20 meters around herself, leaving tall piles of purple corpses behind.

It was amongst them that a warlord-level grimace crab was struck down by her relentless fury.

"I’m getting close to my next breakthrough..." Marissa murmured to herself, reaching the threshold of her next breakthrough.

With the Skywing wolf keeping the commander-level crab at bay and all the girls defending the shore, there started to be a change in the tide of the battle.

Luke let out a whirlwind of fiery vortex, which only spun faster as if it defied the very air around it. Within seconds, tongues of flame rippled outwards in chaotic yet beautiful arcs, each carrying so much heat and steam that even the reluctant water seemed to flee.

As it grew stronger, the grimace crabs and other Krakens on its path fled away like burnt corpses. Their forms and faces became grotesque in their destruction, adding yet more remnants of black.

But, it was the Black-Gold Ironclad Crab that would not back down. A blackish outline in this chaotic battlefield, its mouth slackened, and the guttural screeches it let out drifted across the water.

"Goo-goo!!"

The creature buried its head in the Crimson river. Its eight walking legs stirred up commotion. Pretty soon, waves were forming, growing bigger and bigger, rising higher and higher until they looked like a wave wall.

As the tsunami came crashing down again, the Black-Gold Ironclad Crab flung it, domain squeezing away to produce a great wave that poured toward Luke’s flame core.

But the crab’s counterattack fell short of expectations.

The instant the wave reached Luke’s flame vortex, it dissipated into steam-almost instantly-by the horrible heat of the flames. Even powering with the highest of magic energy, pacified for that brief second, the wave looked to be handling a portion of the flaming beast.

"Goo-goo!!"

Finally made aware of its utterly worthless attack, it shrieked again in a decidedly panicked tone. It lifted a heavy claw, desperately trying to shield itself from being burnt, the dark gold surface gleaming as it stood at the other side of the flames, partially illuminated.

Then it took a blow from the flaming vortex. It was no less merciful than the merciless burning sky golden flame.

The unbearable heat caused the water around the crab to evaporate instantly, leaving it wide open. As the water slipped away and began to burn the outer surface of the Black-Gold Ironclad Crab, the poor creature was tortured.

"Goo-goo!!"

The dark golden shell changed into a bright red in the blink of an eye. Its status as a war machine was challenged, as the petrified body cracked open when the flame’s attack had erased the embossed insignia on its armor.

The demonic technique of the Flame Vortex, far beyond Luke’s present power level, possessed terrible destructive power. Combined with the innate ferocity of the Burning Sky Golden Flame, it wreaked havoc.

After suffering a few excruciating seconds, the vortex finally began to vanish. Flecks of flames still flickered about, dissolving to reveal the embers dancing above the river’s surface. There could be no one to doubt their presence as a hint of remains.

For an hour, the battlefield was silent.

The scorched body of the Black-Gold Ironclad Crab was like a statue, its glorious dark gold now severely cracked and limp red.

Luke sniffed the little air of scent, which was now unfamiliar to him.

"Well baked?" he said with a laugh. His deep voice echoed much like thunder as he slapped his belly and let out a hearty laugh at the sight of the huge crab all but cooked, which was quite funny occasions.

But the laughter was short-lived.

All of a sudden, the sprawled holes began to tremble like the corpse of a freshly expired one. Some faint golden light seemed to ooze through the cracks, at first weak but evidently glimmering with resurgent intensity.

Suddenly, the shell ruptured into many spiny exteriors, the pieces scattering in every turn like slivers of melted metal.

Reshaled in its golden attire came a new, enormous radiantly fierce crab.

The Golden Ironclad Crab, a Sub-Monarch Demon, was born.

"Goo-goo!!!"

The roar of the Golden Ironclad Crab was deafening, eyes afire in its rage.

And then, for a moment, it seemed to focus its vile gaze upon Luke, to the point that he could almost feel it hating him. But within that gaze was another expression: it was hardly one of accusation.

It was like the crab blamed Luke for making it molt a little bit too soon, as if it was forced to evolve before it was ready by the burning of its legs.

Buoyed by its wings, Luke mocked the creature.

"What’re ya givin’ me with that look?" he taunted. "Not a good time with your promotion, huh? Much too bad."

The objections of the Golden Ironclad Crab were clear: it had long been preparing to become a true monarch but was unable to enjoy that noble status as it had been forced to evolve before all of it thanks to the blistering flames unleashed by Luke.

Luke narrowed his eyes. "You should have been thanking me. Without me, not a chance you could reach this level."

The crab’s new aura settled over the battlefield, a presence that thrust fear deep into the hearts of all who sensed it.

Mages and civilians alike on the Bund could only stand in shock with pale faces, dumbstruck by this oppressive energy rolling over them.

"Monarch-level aura..." a mage whispered, quaking with fear.

"Isn’t it just a sub-monarch?" Others tried to assure even as their voices quivered with panic.

"But even a sub-monarch is too much for us! We’re done for!"

Logan Quinn, the better of the Thunder Department’s heads at the Celestial Academy, clenched his fists while analyzing the situation. 𝘧𝘳𝘦ℯ𝓌𝘦𝒷𝘯𝑜𝑣𝘦𝓁.𝒸𝘰𝓂
