Chapter 51: Chapter 51: The Disciple

Luke’s Burning Sky Golden Flame, while lacking a developed domain, was an incredibly volatile soul seed. Its heat radiated extreme intensity, which even Luke, with his Great Commander’s physique, found difficult to approach for too long.

As the searing heat caused massive water vapor to rise, it rushed outward in waves. Seeing this, Professor Xavier quickly conjured a canopy of water blooms, blanketing the entire arena. This precaution ensured that the surrounding students wouldn’t suffer burns while spectating.

"This flame... it’s no ordinary fire. What’s this guy’s background?" one of Ethan White’s previous fangirls gasped, her wide eyes fixed on the mist-covered arena.

"That kind of temperature and destructive force? That’s no ordinary Flame Fist—it could easily be mistaken for a Nine Palaces-level spell."

"This guy’s fire talent is insane. He might even rival that mutated Mars wielder in the main campus’ Fire Academy."

"I don’t know about that. Drake Vadis is still the top of the Fire Academy," another student argued.

"Maybe so, but Ethan White definitely lost here. I doubt he’ll recover anytime soon."

"It’s insane. How is there such a massive gap between my 18-year-old self and his?" one student lamented, drawing sympathetic nods.

For most onlookers—first-year students at Pearl Academy—Ethan White represented an unattainable peak. Seeing him knocked down with a single blow from Luke left them in stunned disbelief.

"There’s no suspense, really. Luke is still as dazzling as ever," Tina Baine said, her eyes sparkling like stars. She had fully transitioned into a fangirl mode, her expression practically glowing with admiration.

"Fire Academy!" The young female examiner in charge of the Fire Academy was practically bouncing with excitement. "Professor Xavier, we absolutely need him in the Fire Academy!"

"Nonsense," retorted the older examiner with gray temples, his tone sharp. "Luke is a special recruit of the Curse Department. That’s where he belongs. He should come to the Dark Magic Academy."

"Old man, are you blind?" the fiery female examiner snapped back, living up to her department’s temperament. "Can’t you see that the Fire Element is Luke’s primary magic? Why waste his talent in the Curse Department?"

The old examiner jumped up in anger, but his years of discipline kept him from shouting. "You dare scold me? When I was teaching, you were still drinking milk!"

"What’s wrong with drinking milk? Haven’t you drunk milk before? If Luke joins the Fire Academy, I can—"

"I can even let him drink some now!" she declared boldly, puffing out her chest.

"Huh?" Luke’s eyebrows raised, a playful grin curling his lips. "Well, that’s a rather tempting offer."

"Ahem!" Professor Xavier coughed loudly, his stern gaze silencing the bickering examiners. "What are you doing? Bickering in front of the students? Do you want people to think Pearl Academy is a rogue school?"

The two examiners grudgingly returned to their seats, muttering under their breaths.

Professor Xavier adjusted his robes, then approached Luke with a warm smile. "Luke, I haven’t taken on a personal student in years. Would you like to become my disciple?"

The other examiners stared in shock. Professor Xavier, a three-line forbidden spell mage, offering to mentor someone personally? They couldn’t compete with that.

"Of course, Professor Xavier. It would be an honor," Luke replied decisively. This was a golden opportunity to latch onto one of the academy’s strongest figures.

"Good, good, good!" Professor Xavier beamed, his satisfaction evident.

"But Luke," the professor began, his tone curious, "why did you use your Curse Element for the test when your Fire Element is so strong?"

"I chose the Curse Element because it’s a bonus category. I thought you wouldn’t value my Fire Element enough," Luke answered earnestly.

Professor Xavier was momentarily stunned by the bluntness of the reply but quickly nodded. "Well, Pearl Academy’s Fire Department is indeed brimming with talent, while the Curse Department is easier to stand out in."

Luke’s lips twitched in amusement. This man was sharp—giving him a stick and watching him climb it like an expert.

"Luke, you’ve officially won this match. Congratulations on joining Pearl Academy," Professor Xavier declared. He glanced toward Ethan White, who had managed to activate his armor magic tool just in time to save his life. The young heir, however, would likely remain unconscious for several days.

"Now then, let’s move on to Zoe Miller’s assessment."

Zoe’s assessment proceeded far more smoothly. She connected forty-nine violet-hued flame stars, impressing the examiners with her poise and control. Her performance was met with unanimous approval.

A mid-level Fire mage with a spirit seed was a treasure for any academy. However, Zoe also demonstrated exceptional skill in potion-making. Under the stunned gazes of the examiners, she brewed a potion equivalent to a second-level Healing spell.

"Professor Xavier, are we sure there isn’t green smoke rising from Pearl Academy’s grounds?" the old examiner with gray temples quipped, his breathing uneven with excitement.

Between Luke, Zoe, and the talented Mo Fan from the previous month, this year’s special recruits were beyond exceptional. Add family scions like Marissa Jones into the mix, and Pearl Academy seemed poised for an unprecedented era of success.

"Haha! If there isn’t smoke now, I’ll light a fire myself," Professor Xavier replied, his youthful energy on full display. "Luke, Zoe, the school term starts next month. You’re welcome to stay in the dormitories and familiarize yourselves with the campus. Or, if you prefer, you can stay off-campus. Either way, Pearl Academy welcomes you."

Luke nodded. "Thank you, Professor Xavier. See you next month."

Hearing Luke call him "Professor" made Xavier’s grin widen even further.

"Oh, Luke, take this," the professor said, handing him a crystal necklace. "It can shield you from one mental interference. Consider it a gift."

The necklace, worth tens of millions, was a valuable addition to Luke’s arsenal. Although not short on resources, he appreciated the gesture. "Thank you, Professor," he said, slipping the necklace around his neck.

As the trio prepared to leave, the previously mocking bald examiner suddenly jumped from his seat, smacking his own forehead. He hurriedly pulled out another crystal necklace.

"Zoe Miller! Please, take this. It also offers protection against mental interference," he said, practically shoving the necklace into her hands.

True to his role as an educator, he sought to make amends for his earlier attitude.
