Chapter 50: Chapter 50: The fight

The examiners exchanged uneasy glances. Duels weren’t part of the admissions process and could set a dangerous precedent.

Luke, however, only laughed. "A duel? With you?" His voice dripped with disdain. "You should be thanking me for even considering such a waste of time."

"You—!" Ethan’s face turned a deeper shade of red.

Professor Xavier sighed. "Luke, this is highly irregular. Are you sure?"

"Professor," Luke said, smiling brightly. "Didn’t you say it yourself? Practical skill is more important than theory."

The room fell silent. Even the bald examiner couldn’t help but look at Luke with newfound respect.

"Very well," the professor said, his eyes glinting with anticipation. "Let’s see how this unfolds."

"Oh, why are there so many people in this year’s special enrollment?"

"It seems the special enrollment of our Pearl Academy has become a mix of academics and martial arts this year," an old examiner with gray temples sighed.

"Haha, last time, it was that student Mo Fan who took the spotlight," the youngest examiner, a woman among the five, said with a chuckle. "This time, I think Luke has the edge. He’s quite an interesting candidate."

Professor Xavier’s lips curved into a subtle smile. The previous special enrollment had left him impressed, especially with Mo Fan summoning a slave-level wolf beast capable of resisting a team of beginner-level mages. Adding to that, he was a mid-level mage with the rare Thunder element. But Luke had turned out to be an even greater surprise.

"If this standard continues, I wouldn’t mind working at Pearl Academy for a lifetime," Professor Xavier mused. "I might even leave my name in the special recruitment office upon retirement."

"Ethan White, Luke, remember, this is still a school. Keep it within limits, and I’ll decide the winner."

Professor Xavier and the other four examiners stepped onto the stage to set the rules.

Ethan sneered, his face twisted with disdain. "Hmph. Just within limits, huh? Let’s see how long it takes before they intervene to save him."

Ethan turned to Luke and sneered again. "You think sucking up to the Jones family means you can walk over anyone? I’ll show you what it means to be part of the White family in Demon Capital."

Luke’s gaze shifted toward the audience forming around the arena. Students were gathering, buzzing with curiosity and excitement.

"Who’s that guy? Does he really think he can take on Ethan White?"

"He must be out of his mind. Ethan’s almost at mid-level mage status. That guy is toast."

"Picking a fight with someone from Demon Capital’s White family? He’s not going to last long in college now."

"Not so sure. He’s kind of handsome," a girl added shyly, her cheeks flushing.

In the crowd, a pair of large, curious eyes fixed on Luke, round with disbelief. Tina Baine’s hands flew to her mouth in shock, her body trembling slightly.

"Luke! What’s he doing here?" Tina whispered. Her gaze darted between Luke and Marissa. "And Marissa is with him? When did this happen?"

Tina’s emotions were a whirlwind. Her life-saving benefactor, Luke, had left an indelible impression on her. Now, seeing him alongside her best friend stirred confusion, affection, and a touch of jealousy.

When the crowd began speculating further, Tina silenced them with a sharp tone.

"What’s the point of arguing? Let’s just watch Ethan White get humiliated," she said disdainfully.

The students around her quickly quieted down. Tina’s sharp temper wasn’t something they wanted to cross.

Luke stepped into the arena, a friendly smile on his face. "If you want, I can let you have the first move."

Ethan let out a loud laugh. "You’re quite the comedian, aren’t you? Do you even realize who you’re dealing with? Lowborn fools like you have no idea of the gap between us and the families of Demon Capital."

Ethan’s laughter echoed, his arrogance palpable. But Professor Xavier and the other examiners exchanged quiet, disapproving glances. Ethan’s attitude was doing him no favors in their evaluation.

"So, you’re not interested in going first?" Luke asked, his tone calm.

"Go ahead!" Ethan gestured mockingly. "Let me see your pathetic star connections. You’re just wasting everyone’s time."

Marissa groaned, covering her face. "Are all Demon Capital heirs this clueless?" she muttered.

Zoe shook her head. "I don’t get it. Is he really this confident or just that stupid?"

"Alright then," Luke said. The air around him shimmered as golden flames danced across his arms, crawling to his shoulders.

Forty-nine fiery stars lit up in the air, forming a dazzling star map within seconds.

Burning Sky Golden Flame: Fierce Fist – Boom!

Luke completed the spell in a mere three seconds, sending a blazing flame dragon roaring across the arena.

Ethan’s expression froze in shock. "What?! He’s a Fire mage?!"

The heat from the attack surged forward, distorting the air with its intensity. Ethan panicked, his attempt to connect his stars faltering and collapsing into disarray.

"Armor! My magic armor!" Ethan shouted, trying to summon his defensive equipment. But before he could complete his summoning, a shimmering light barrier appeared before him.

"What are you doing? I wasn’t ready yet!" Ethan yelled toward the examiner who had cast the barrier.

The examiner looked sheepish, realizing he had acted preemptively. "Continue! Summon your armor!" he urged.

But it was already too late. Cracks spread across the light barrier as Luke’s Flame Dragon Fist smashed into it with overwhelming force.

"Impossible!" Ethan’s voice cracked with disbelief as the barrier shattered, and the blazing attack struck him directly. He flew across the arena, slamming into the stone wall with a thunderous crash, leaving a massive crater in his wake.

"Young Master!" Ethan’s two servants scrambled to his side, panic written across their faces. Without his magic armor, Ethan was in serious danger.

Luke scratched his cheek, his expression tinged with helplessness. "Oops. I guess I went a bit too hard."

He turned to Professor Xavier, his face the picture of innocence. "Old Professor, do you think I can still attend school normally?"

Professor Xavier stared at the evaporating steam that still lingered in the air, then back at Luke’s sheepish expression. For a moment, he was utterly speechless.

"You’re the one who’s aggrieved here?" Professor Xavier thought incredulously, shaking his head in exasperation.
