Beastmen Love-Chapter 30: Black Cloud
Chapter 30: Black Cloud
Lee and Wayde decide for a day to bring Astri to the beach.
Lee thought about bringing guards, but he doesn’t want anyone seeing Astri making salt, so it will be only Astri, Lee, Wayde and Zin going to the beach.
Astri sees the ocean and takes a deep breath happily.
"It is so beautiful!! Look at thaaat horizon!!" She says happily.
Her spouses smile happy for her as they settle their camp.
However, soon Astri entered her work mode. When she wants to try something she’s unstoppable.
They prepare a fireplace and Astri asks to let the sea water rest to make any dirt go to the bottom.
Then before pouring it into the pot, she uses a cloth to filter the water and remove dirt. Then they put it to boil on fire.
"The process is long but it’s quite simple. Let’s wait to evaporate the water." She speaks.
As they wait they talk about many things. Wayde is hugging her to block the wind and when they actually start to see salt on the bottom of the pot they get impressed.
"It actually worked." Astri says happily.
"Is this the first time you make salt?" Lee asks.
"Yes, but I heard about the process once and I wanted to try someday. Oh no, it might scorch! Let’s stir the salt so it keeps the texture of salt." She says, then takes a wooden spoon and starts stirring.
They notice that when they stop it starts scorching, Wayde stirs in her place so she doesn’t get tired.
When the salt stays with a texture of wet sand and no more water, she asks to remove the pot from the fire.
She takes a bit of the salt with the spoon, then carefully takes a pinch and puts it in her mouth.
"You shouldn’t have eaten it before me! My stomach can handle even poisonous things." Zin takes the spoon from her.
"It’s salt! Try it." She says happily.
Zin tried first and he felt the same taste of salt. Then Lee and Wayde also try and they’re impressed. They now know how to make salt!
"Now we just let it dry to put on the sack. If we had a bigger pot we could make more at once." She tells.
"When I choose who will be responsible for this, I’ll order to make big pots so we can have lots of salt. This will give us the power we need." Lee says.
Wayde and Lee are the ones who plan everything for the family’s protection.
Zin only says something when he doesn’t agree, but his companions know that Zin is the most capable to protect Astri.
Zin is fast, strong and can poison the enemies. Lee can take Astri away by flying, but if he gets attacked on the sky, she might fall and it’s a high risk of not getting to her in time.
So while Wayde and Lee are busy with their plans of growing the tribe, Zin is responsible to protect Astri.
Astri doesn’t meddle about that because it’s something of their culture and survival to protect their female using everything they can.
As long as they don’t stop her from doing things like discovering how to make salt, she’s happy enough.
She already feels the luckiest for having lovable and caring mates, something she wasn’t expecting to have but she had in mind men from the human world, who change women whenever they want, in the beast world it is completely different.
As they’re making more salt, Astri looks at the horizon. Then she sees a dark shadow moving in the sky, she presses her eyes to try to see it better.
"What is that?" She asks.
They look to where she’s looking, Zin flicks his tongue to sense that moving shadow on the sky, and his senses are telling him that it’s an almost dying beast, but it’s a powerful beast.
"It’s a powerful beast, but it feels like dying." Zin speaks.
"He looks big.." Astri says.
"He is.." Lee speaks, watching that cloud with his sharp eyes that sees long distances.
They keep watching the cloud, expecting it would follow its path, but then they get shocked when a huge black dragon descends from the cloud.
"Is that..?" Astri asks, impressed.
"A dragon. Let’s get out of here." Lee says, taking Astri in his arms and preparing to fly away.
"Wait!" She points to the dragon, he’s descending from the sky weakly, but he’s getting closer fast because his enormous wings are trying to stay flapping.
"He already sensed us here. He is coming in our direction. We need to go. Lee, give me Astri. He will see you in the sky, and with those wings he will get to you too fast." Zin speaks.
"On land we can hide Astri." Wayde speaks and then Zin takes Astri.
She’s wondering why they’re already assuming the dragon will attack them.
She looks again to the dragon and just as they were starting to flee and leave everything behind, she sees the dragon shifting. Then falling from the sky.
"Wait! He’s falling!" Astri speaks, pointing at the dragon again.
They watch the dragon falling on the ocean.
"I’m not sure if he’s dead already. I can’t sense him under water if I’m not under water too." Zin speaks.
"Why are you acting as if he will kill us?" She asks them.
"Dragons are dangerous. They’re an ancient kind of beast and they don’t fear anyone even on their deathbeds. The dragons I saw once were dangerous, but were peaceful only because they wanted salt. They live far away from everyone because they don’t like other kinds of beasts." Lee speaks.
Astri is still looking to where the dragon is, she feels that something is making her wanting to help him.
Something is telling her that he’s not dangerous.
"I want to help him." She says.
"What?! No!!" They say in unison.
"Listen!!" She says louder, and they go quiet. "I trust you, and I believe that what you’re saying might be true, but something is telling me to help him. That he won’t hurt us."
"What do you mean?" Wayde asks.
"It’s like a part of me saying that we need to save him." She says as she’s getting anxious. "You have to go save him. I can feel like a call. Please go!" She speaks, anxious. Like she’s going to have an anxiety attack if they don’t move.
"Astri.. He can kill us." Lee says.
She clicks her tongue and gets free from Zin’s arms, to then run to the ocean.
They stop her, but she pushes them strongly, with a strength they never saw her using.
"I’m sorry... It’s just.. I feel that I’ll go crazy if we don’t help him. My heart feels like it wants to explode. It’s like I know he can help me somehow too. You guys need to believe me." She says, already wanting to cry and breathing heavily.
They look at each other, not knowing what to think, but Astri would never lie to them. She’s in panic, she wouldn’t act like that.
"All right... I’ll go. Stay here." Zin speaks.
Zin shifts and goes inside the ocean. They wait for several minutes and then Zin is back carrying an unconscious man with black long hair in his tail.
Zin puts the man on the sand, and Astri rushes to him. He looks thin and dehydrated. She tries to hear his breathing.
"He’s not breathing." She says, then hears his heart. "But his heart is still beating. He’s alive." She speaks, and instinctively she holds his nose and puts her lips on his to suck his air out.
"Hey!! What are you doing?!" Lee speaks, jealous.
"Trying to save him." She answers, and then she presses her hands on his chest strongly.
The man throws up water and she turns his head so he doesn’t choke.
"Why did you kiss him?" Wayde asks.
"I didn’t. He had water in his lungs, that’s why he couldn’t breathe. I sucked his breath, not kissed him." She answers.
She turns the man to his side and gives him some beating on his back to make him throw up all the sea water.
He takes a deep breath after throwing up, then lays down again and he opens his eyes slowly. He looks at her and she smiles relieved.
"He’s back." She says.
