Beast World: A Fragile Beauty Blessed with Many Children-Chapter 96 - 95: You Cannot
Xu Chi couldn’t resist affectionately nuzzling her soft, fair neck for a moment. "For my little female’s words, I’ll have to put on a good show. I can’t let anyone look down on you!"
A female’s reputation was earned by her males. Among those who had come for the spring hunt were quite a few females from the Central Continent, including several from the Great Beast Cities.
Si Shuo patted his back. "Mm-hm, I’ll wait for your return. I’ve put all the Crystal Stones in our shared storage space."
Only then did Xu Chi let go and stand up. He and Rongzhi nodded to Ji Liang and the others before leaping down the stone steps in a few bounds to register, hand over their Crystal Stones, and get in line.
Fierce Beasts of Level 10 and above were not easy to capture. Their instinct to seek advantages and avoid harm was stronger, and they habitually bullied the weak while fearing the strong. When they encountered Beastmen with high Combat Power, they knew enough to hide.
Therefore, hunting for Level 10 Crystal Cores was quite time-consuming. Moreover, high-Level Fierce Beasts had more abilities. Unless a Beastman could kill one in a single blow, they had to spend time figuring out their opponent’s fighting style to hunt them effectively.
The registration threshold of ten Level 10 Crystal Stones alone was enough to eliminate half the Beastmen from the Southern Continent.
Even so, the Beastman population was massive, and the line of males already snaked out beyond the beast skin pavilion.
Kouba cleverly stood up and said, "I’ll go wait in line for Xu Chi, so he can watch a few more matches up close."
Rongxing immediately followed suit, getting up to wait in line for Rongzhi.
Ji Liang smiled and patted Rongxing’s shoulder. "Thanks!"
Then he turned to Si Shuo and said in a low voice, "Little Shuoshuo, see that? This is the inconvenience of having too few Beast Husbands."
His arm was wrapped tightly around Si Shuo. He was the only one of her Beast Husbands present, and they were surrounded by high-Level Beastmen!
Even though Ji Liang was worldly, his palms began to sweat—a rare occurrence. He drew most of his attention away from the fighting rings and focused it on her.
Once they reached Beast City, they would have even more to keep them busy.
Si San on her wrist lifted its head, as if to say it could help too.
Ji Liang pushed its head back down. ’No, you can’t!’
Si Shuo buried her face in his chest. "I... I’ll try my best."
Ji Liang chuckled and stroked her head. "Actually, we don’t need a dozen like other families. Another two or three would be enough for us. We’ll go for quality over quantity."
Si Shuo nodded repeatedly. ’That, I can do,’ she thought. ’Any more and I wouldn’t be able to handle it; my heart would break.’
Just then, Xie Shi had gathered a group to the side to start a betting pool. The wagers were on how many consecutive matches the Qingxi Tribe could win, which Beastman would win a round, and who would ultimately take home the various prizes.
With flecks of sunlight dancing in her azure eyes, Si Shuo tugged on Ji Liang’s clothes. "Should we bet on Xu Chi to win, too?"
Yimei said with a smile, "I’m betting on my Rongzhi to win, too. How could I not support my own family?"
As she spoke, she asked Pan Zhou for a Level 10 Crystal Stone and gave it to one of her Beast Husbands, Lei Lan. "Si Shuo, give your Crystal Stone to Lei Lan. He can place the bet for both of us at the same time."
Si Shuo hummed in agreement. After a moment’s thought, she took out a Twelfth Level Crystal Stone. "Just bet this on Xu Chi winning one match today."
She only had two of her Beast Husbands present, but Yimei had many, so they could constantly help with waiting in line, which would save a lot of time.
After taking the Crystal Stones, Lei Lan jumped down from the stands to place the bets.
The lines for the six fighting rings moved along rather quickly. Many of the Beastmen only had Level 8 Combat Power, but they wanted to get on stage to personally experience the might of High-Level Combat Power.
Ten Level 10 Crystal Stones was a steep price, but the Beastmen of the Qingxi Tribe were known for their good character. If a challenger simply exchanged a few words with them, they would take a few moments to offer guidance.
Some Beastmen had been stuck at the Peak of their Level for a long time, and after receiving some pointers from the ring’s defender, a few even managed to break through on the spot.
Such an incentive was even more tempting than winning the match itself. Beastmen admired the strong, especially the males, whose world revolved around three things: Combat Power, females, and cubs.
With high Combat Power came females, and with females came cubs!
The Beastmen from the Central Continent were quick-witted. Some had already spotted a business opportunity and were now specializing in waiting in line.
Anyone too impatient to wait could spend twelve Level 10 Crystal Stones to buy one of these placeholder spots in the line!
Hang He finally finished gathering information and returned to fill them in on the situation.
As soon as she heard they didn’t have to wait in line properly and could just spend some extra Crystal Stones, Si Shuo immediately asked Lei Lan, who had just returned from placing the bets, to take a message to Xu Chi.
Most Beastmen had a limited supply of Crystal Stones and would only spar two or three times at most. Therefore, they preferred to spend the time waiting in line themselves rather than waste their stones.
Si Shuo wasn’t short on Crystal Stones; she was short on time! Their goal was to challenge every single one of the hundred and twenty-odd Beastmen from the tribe.
After hearing Lei Lan’s message, Xu Chi turned to see his female waving at him. He smiled, waved back, and immediately found Kouba to explain the situation.
Kouba raised an eyebrow, then smiled and nodded. He would stay in line. Xu Chi could go buy a spot near the front, and when Kouba eventually reached the front, he could sell his own spot.
After deducting the ten Level 10 Crystal Stones for registration, selling a spot would net a profit of two stones!
Yimei’s family had Crystal Stones, but they couldn’t afford to be so extravagant. She glanced at Pan Zhou, then at Si Shuo, looking quite conflicted.
Si Shuo leaned in and whispered, "Yimei, why don’t you have your Beast Husbands take the Bone Marrow Cleansing and Vein Cutting Pills first, and then decide."
Yimei trusted her and Ji Liang implicitly, enough to hold them in the same regard as the Beast God.
Right away, she left Lei Lan to save their seats in the stands and took Pan Zhou, Hang He, and the cubs back to their tent to take the Bone Marrow Cleansing and Vein Cutting Pills!
Even though Xu Chi paid for a good spot in the queue, there were still more than ten males ahead of him.
「After about half a Beast Hour—equivalent to one hour—he finally leaped onto the fighting ring.」
His opponent was a middle-aged, Twelfth Level Elephant Beastman. His body was crisscrossed with scars, marking him as a seasoned and experienced fighter.
After the two males politely bowed in greeting, the Elephant Beastman raised his trunk, which was wrapped in a layer of Golden Soft Armor, and let out a clear, resounding trumpet—as if celebrating victory before the fight had even begun!
Xu Chi moved with incredible speed. Wielding the replica of the Tibetan knife that Si Shuo had obtained from her first main quest—a blade that could cut through iron as if it were mud—he charged forward and swung directly at the beastman’s trunk.
The Golden Soft Armor was meant to protect the trunk while preserving its flexibility, allowing it to coil around an opponent to squeeze them tight or slam them around.
But the Golden Soft Armor wasn’t invincible; at most, it could only nullify half the force of a powerful blow.
The Elephant Beastman’s eyes narrowed. He was slightly startled by the cold glint flashing from the Tibetan knife, but he was not slow to dodge.
Bronze artifacts had only appeared in the Central Continent within the last two years, and they were extremely difficult to refine. For even the great families and tribes, possessing just a few pieces was a matter of considerable prestige.
A well-refined Bronze Sword was harder and dealt more damage than an Arrow condensed from a Gold Ability. Yet the blade in Xu Chi’s hand sent a chill down the spine of anyone who looked at it—this was the instinct for danger unique to a High-Level Combat Power Beastman!
He had a momentary lapse in focus, and despite his quick dodge, the blade still sliced through the Golden Soft Armor. It cut a half-inch-long gash into the flesh of his trunk, and blood gushed out, splattering across the ground...
