Chapter 87: Chapter 86: That Works Too?

Dongye Middle Square was huge. Si Shuo, Zhi Le, and the others first went to the northwest corner of the workshop, a vast area where neat rows of Beast Skin Bag shelters were set up.

They arrived a little late. Yimei and her Beast Husbands had already found a suitable spot, saved them a place, and even set up a Beast Skin Bag shelter for them!

"Si Shuo, over here!" Yimei waved with a smile as three chubby little cubs came running over, yapping excitedly.

They were less than two months old, but they were already lively and active, romping all over the place.

Kouba leisurely followed behind them. When he saw that Si Shuo’s group was short one person, his eyes twinkled, and he sidled up to Ji Liang, clearly looking to gossip.

"Boss, where’s your female’s new favorite?"

Ji Liang smiled and gestured toward Si Shuo, who still looked a bit unhappy. "That one was overacting, and my little female still has no idea what they’re being so difficult about. She probably really thinks she’s lost a good sister."

Kouba froze for a second before laughing along. "Boss, has none of you males told Si Shuo that the sex of a Three-tailed Blue Fox is only determined when they come of age?"

Ji Liang shrugged. "Xiao Shisi’s hasn’t been determined yet, right? And who knows what their Combat Level will be after they receive their mark? They just mope around Little Shuoshuo all day. If they aren’t in a hurry themselves, we’re certainly not going to play peacemaker."

Meanwhile, Yimei held Si Shuo’s arm and spoke with a smile. "Master Xu said we’ll be staying in Dongye Middle Square for ten days. We can take our time to look around and learn more about what the Central Continent is like.

"I was just talking to some of the females from Puchang City, and they told me a lot. We should probably decide which Beast City we want to go to ahead of time. Then, once the caravan gets us there, we’ll have to register our personal information.

"Beastmen migrate to the Central Continent every year, so pretty much all the land is already claimed. If we want to farm, we’ll have to rent from someone else.

"Some families have more land than they want to farm, or more than they can manage, so they rent the extra out.

"After we plant our crops and harvest the food, we have to give the owners half... And for housing, we have to pay in Crystal Stones..."

As she said this, Yimei’s brow furrowed. They had made it to the Central Continent on sheer momentum, but now they had to face the challenge of how to survive on this new land.

Si Shuo patted her hand and whispered in her ear, "Don’t worry, Yimei. Back when we helped Puchang City defend against the Beast Tide, the City Lord gifted me an estate outside Guangshou City, plus a two-story storefront inside the city. At least we don’t have to worry about having nowhere to live!"

Yimei nodded happily. "That’s wonderful! In the future, our family can help your family with farming and animal husbandry."

Si Shuo chuckled and petted the three little cubs sitting obediently beside them. "That’s what I was thinking, too. My family might be taking on two or three more Beast Husbands, so we’ll have a lot on our plates. We’ll definitely need your help."

Yimei nudged her with her shoulder. "Whether or not you take on more Beast Husbands right now isn’t the most important thing. We’ve made it to the Central Continent; there are bound to be plenty of exceptional males here.

"But, Si Shuo, when are you going to have some cubs of your own?

"Let me tell you, the more Beast Husbands you have, the more conflicts there will be. The best solution is to have cubs and give them all something to keep them busy!"

Si Shuo blinked. "That actually works?"

Yimei lifted her chin slightly. "Of course it does! Just look at my Kouba, he’s so helpful around the house now. He keeps a close eye on the cubs without taking a break. He’s completely occupied.

"As for my other Beast Husbands, their focus is now on getting me pregnant with their own cubs.

"The weather is perfect right now, so I’ll get pregnant again. By the time the cubs are a bit older and stronger, the rainy season and winter will be here.

"And if we have enough food stored up at home, maybe my little squirrels can have even more younger siblings..."

Si Shuo couldn’t help but gulp. "Three pregnancies in one year?!"

’Isn’t that a little terrifying?’

Yimei laughed. "It’s not so bad. With so many Beast Husbands, I have to give each of them two children eventually.

"If my fertility were low like before, it would be one thing, but now I’m a Female Saint. I can’t let the Beast God’s blessing go to waste.

"Besides, the way a female shows a male she values and loves him is by giving him a cub.

"You’re so beautiful, Si Shuo, and your Beast Husbands are all so handsome. Your cubs are guaranteed to be gorgeous!"

Si Shuo rubbed her nose. The mere thought of being pregnant all year round was enough to make her shake her head in alarm.

"I think I’ll just take it slow with one or two pregnancies a year. If I keep my body healthy and well-nourished, the cubs I have might have better potential, too."

Yimei thought about it. "That makes sense. I hear that farming in the Central Continent involves things like letting land rest and rotating crops. If you keep planting the same thing in one spot, the harvest is worse the next year, so you have to let the land recover.

"When we have cubs, it’s like the males are planting seeds in our bellies. All the good food we eat goes to the cub inside.

"If your body isn’t well-nourished, the cub’s potential will be affected... In that case, maybe I should just aim for two pregnancies a year, too?

"Perfect. We’ll have a lot to do when we get settled in the Central Continent anyway. I’ll have my next one after the rainy season begins!"

Si Shuo smiled and nodded. "Exactly. We females can’t spend all day just thinking about males and cubs. We need our own passions and projects to keep us busy.

"Life is long; we can’t let it all go to waste."

"Si Shuo, I’ll listen to you," Yimei said, nodding in agreement.

The sun was slanting toward the west, casting a warm, yellow glow over the land. A gentle breeze swirled past, carrying the scent of fresh grass and unknown wildflowers.

The two walked arm in arm through the market. The food here was far more plentiful than in the Southern Continent. With fewer direct threats to their survival, the Beastmen here clearly had more time and energy to spend on improving their quality of life.

As a result, areas like cuisine, medicine, culture, economy, and technology in the Central Continent were already budding, poised on the brink of a rapid growth spurt.

The various pastries and flavorful roasted meats allowed the Beastmen from the Southern Continent to eat to their hearts’ content.

For Si Shuo’s and Yimei’s families, however, the flavors were still a little lacking.

But Si Shuo’s eyes only grew brighter. ’Hmm, half the stalls in Dongye Middle Square are selling food, both raw and cooked. It just goes to show that no matter the era, people live by the old saying: food is the most important thing.’

Furthermore, the cuisine in the Central Continent used more than just the salt that people in the Southern Continent relied on; they also had seasonings like bay leaves, scallions, peppercorns, and wild ginger!

In other words, the basic building blocks for seasoning already existed. It wouldn’t be too strange if she were to "discover" a few more.

Si Shuo had it all figured out. ’I’ll open a restaurant in that two-story shop in Guangshou City, and the Crystal Stones will pour in like a river every day.’

Everywhere she looked, her mind filled with business ideas. Afraid she might forget them, she took out a sheet of leather paper and a charcoal pencil and began jotting down notes in a phonetic script.

Her Beast Husbands could not only read this script now, but they could also write in it.

They periodically craned their necks to peek at her notes. Seeing words related to farming, animal husbandry, textiles, opening shops, and starting a school made their anticipation for life in the Central Continent grow even stronger.

Si Shuo suddenly paused. Sensing that a note had appeared in the space she shared with Ji Liang, she smiled and said, "The auction is about to start. Let’s hurry over and take a look, shall we?"
