Beast World: A Fragile Beauty Blessed with Many Children-Chapter 73 - 72: It’s a Beast Tide
After speaking, Ji Liang assigned a group of beastmen to Gong You for investigation, including more than a dozen who could teleport to pre-marked locations.
He then assigned tasks to the remaining beastmen, now only waiting for concrete news from Gong You’s team!
However, he didn’t let everyone stand idle. While they all had ample Spiritual Power, he had them set up the defensive fortifications outside the city. This was the highest priority and could not be overlooked under any circumstances.
Si Shuo remained by the Beast God Statue, guarded by Zhi Le and Xu Chi.
Many of the teleporting beastmen had previously marked spots in the forest south of the city. They teleported to each one to investigate the situation, discovering the agitated, frenzied Fierce Beasts without Gong You even needing to use his Time Law. In less than half a day, they found the beasts gathering into formations and charging forward. The horde had already grown beyond a small scale and was approaching a medium one, with a continuous stream of Fierce Beasts converging on the area!
The thunderous roar of their charge was like a soul-shaking clap of thunder from the horizon, and the very earth trembled. The Frenzied Fierce Beasts kicked up a sky-blotting cloud of yellow dust as they surged forward.
One of the more timid teleporting beastmen was so terrified that he immediately teleported back to the city, his face pale with dirt. He collapsed to the ground, his legs giving out, and shouted through chattering teeth:
"It’s a Beast Tide! In the southern forest, tons of Frenzied Fierce Beasts are heading this way... So many of them, a massive, dark throng, like a rolling cloud! It’s already a medium-scale tide, and by the time it reaches us, they’ll definitely trample this place flat..."
The shrill voice shattered the evening peace of Puchang City, casting a shadow of terror, panic, fear, and a hint of despair over the beastmen’s hearts along with the falling twilight.
But Ji Liang and Si Shuo remained calm, standing on the platform in the square, facing south and waiting.
Just then, Gong You, circling in the air on a White-beaked Eagle Beastman, took aim at a Level 8 Frenzied Fierce Beast. He fired his crossbow at its forehead. The arrow, formed from an energy source, penetrated an inch into the creature’s head before exploding. The beast’s body convulsed before it fell to the ground and vanished!
The system immediately sounded a notification: Ding! A random top-level gift package from Gong You’s kill has been dropped. Ding... Ding...
With the "Dings" echoing in her mind, Si Shuo quickly muted the notifications. A small smile touched her lips as she pressed her palms together and bowed to the Beast God Statue. She then sat down cross-legged, and with a touch to the space beside her, a set of perfectly processed top-level skin, meat, sinews, and bones appeared, along with a Level 8 Crystal Stone.
She glanced at the wide-eyed Shi Fu and High Priest Nalan beside her, then waved her hand again. Several sets of low-level and No-Grade skin, meat, sinews, and bones appeared, as well as Crystal Cores of Level 4 and below.
Before she even needed to speak, another teleporting beastman returned with several people in tow.
They were all confidants of the City Lord and the High Priest. Their faces were deathly pale, their bodies still trembling with lingering fear as they stammered out their report: the Beast Tide was coming, and the Frenzied Fierce Beast that Lord Gong You had killed had vanished on the spot.
Shi Fu was completely dumbfounded. His massive body staggered back a step as he pointed at the items on the platform. "Look closely. Are those the remains of the Frenzied Fierce Beast that vanished?"
The beastmen took a look and nodded repeatedly in shock.
Only then did Ji Liang ask nonchalantly, "City Lord, do we now have full authority to command the resistance against this Beast Tide?"
Without a second thought, Shi Fu nodded. "Yes, yes, yes! Do whatever you want! As long as you can save Puchang City, I’ll... I’ll even throw in a two-story shop in Guangshou City for you!"
Ji Liang wasted no time. He immediately summoned the remaining teleporting beastmen in the city, instructing them to evacuate the females and cubs. At the same time, he had them spread the news, casting the defense as a large-scale spring hunting event to see if any other beastmen were willing to join, and to call over other teleporting beastmen for help.
All defensive preparations began in a frenzy. Following Ji Liang’s instructions, Shi Fu also pressured the tribes dependent on Puchang City to participate in building defenses against the Beast Tide.
The Beast Tide was imminent, and its scale was enormous—so enormous that unless the beastmen left with the teleporters, they wouldn’t be able to escape with their own speed!
Although the beastmen of Puchang City had grown accustomed to a life of peace, in the face of a life-or-death crisis, they united as one under the leadership of Ji Liang, Zhi Le, Xu Lie, Shi Fu, and Nalan, strictly obeying all commands.
Only Xu Chi remained by Si Shuo’s side, never leaving her for a moment.
She sat cross-legged in the square, periodically tossing out a gift package wrapped in Beast Skins. Each package was even engraved with the Beast Text of its intended recipient, which further solidified Nalan’s belief that this was all a mercy from the Beast God.
Here, the High Priest’s status and prestige far surpassed the City Lord’s. If he believed it, then the entire population of Puchang City believed it! 𝒻𝑟𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝑛𝘰𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝘤𝘰𝘮
By the time Si Shuo had filled the entire square with packages, the news that the Beast God was presiding over the defense against this massive Beast Tide had, thanks to the busy teleporting beastmen, spread throughout the entire Southern Beast World.
The beastmen’s reverence for the Beast God was absolute. They would willingly walk through fire, climb mountains of blades, bow until they died, and throw themselves into flames like moths. They would perform any act of devotion without batting an eye; no amount of madness could describe the profound piety of their faith.
More and more beastmen were teleported to Puchang City. They rushed to the various defensive lines, squeezing out every last drop of their Spiritual Power, striving not to waste a single moment or iota of energy before the Beast Tide arrived!
The beastmen with the Earth Element Ability, following Si Shuo’s blueprints, constructed complex mazes that created spatial illusions. The Frenzied Fierce Beasts were crazed, but not completely stupid. Upon entering the maze, they wouldn’t just ram into walls repeatedly; they would follow any path they found. As long as the maze’s passages were long enough and the exits numerous enough, the scale of the Beast Tide could be reduced.
They only needed to reinforce the various intersections of the mazes and gradually divert the Beast Tide. Numerous traps awaited at each maze exit. After one maze, there would be another. Every bit they could wear down the enemy was a victory!
Water Ability beastmen filled the wide, deep pits dug by the Earth Element beastmen with water, which they laced with toxins from poisonous creatures caught in the forest, as well as some potent wild mushrooms. When the Fierce Beasts tried to cross, the beastmen would use their ability to spray the water into their mouths and noses. Since the dead Fierce Beasts would vanish on the spot and be purified by the system, this had a dual benefit.
Not only would the traps never become clogged, but the skin, meat, sinews, and bones of the Fierce Beasts would also remain undamaged!
The Gold Ability beastmen studded the ground with long, thick, poison-coated spikes. ’After all, the ground spikes in *Plants vs. Zombies* had worked quite well...’ The Wood Element Ability beastmen accelerated the growth of various fire-resistant plants, laying them in a thick layer on the ground. When the Fierce Beasts arrived, they could set it alight, creating a Fire Wall...
The beastmen without superpowers possessed astonishing physical strength. They could fell trees, quarry stone, and build traps. Some of the females who remained behind gathered all sorts of poisonous plants and mushrooms.
Si Shuo suddenly felt that this was indeed like a real-life tower defense game, such as *Plants vs. Zombies* or *Carrot Fantasy*.
’As long as our defenses are properly set up, we can annihilate even the most massive Beast Tide!’
’In a game, you get another chance if you fail. But we have no path of retreat.’
