Chapter 49: Chapter 48: My Fated One

After breakfast, they followed the crowd toward the Beast God Statue plaza.

Si Shuo sat atop Zhi Le in his Snow Leopard form, her arms wrapped around his neck. She whispered to him, "Zhi Le, if I get chosen by the Beast God to become a Female Saint, what superpower do you think I should wish for?"

A smile danced in Zhi Le’s gray-blue eyes. No matter how powerful her other Beast Husbands were, he knew he held a special place in her heart.

’She only discusses things like this with me!’

After all, she had only truly accepted her second Beast Husband last night, and it had been with his tacit approval and blessing.

’How many females would treat their Beast Husbands with such consideration?’

In that moment, the last trace of anxiety in Zhi Le’s heart vanished, strengthening his resolve to grow stronger.

He thought for a moment before explaining, "Kitty, the superpowers of a Female Saint are rather unique."

"Females are physically weaker. Unlike males, who can obtain a superpower and then gradually increase their Combat Power through daily battles with Wild Beasts."

"That’s just the reality of it. So, Female Saints’ superpowers usually aren’t from the Combat System. Instead, they choose support-type superpowers like Spatial, Healing, Invisibility, Instant Teleportation, marker-based Teleportation, or summoning a partner."

Si Shuo tilted her head, a smile in her eyes. ’Does that mean I have three superpowers at once: Spatial, Healing, and Wood Element?’

She whispered, "So should I choose summoning a partner? Or marker-based Teleportation?"

"Summoning a partner. We can’t guarantee we’ll be by your side every moment. If someone takes advantage of an opportunity when you’re alone, you’ll be able to summon us to you instantly."

"Sometimes, raw power trumps all trickery!"

What Zhi Le didn’t say was that if she used marker-based Teleportation and ended up being found by a low-level or malicious male, it would be like jumping out of the frying pan and into the fire.

Si Shuo chuckled and nuzzled his head, her voice soft. "Okay, I’ll listen to you, Zhi Le."

"Kitty, don’t overthink it. Whether you become a Female Saint or not, you’re the female we are sworn to protect. That will never change."

Si Shuo hummed in agreement, unable to resist nuzzling him again. "I know."

’When I first met Zhi Le, I had just been reincarnated here. My body was visibly frail, and all the nearby tribes knew I was a burden.’

’Without Zhi Le, even with my system, I had no Skills or Beast Coins. It would have been nearly impossible to avoid being sent to the female cave.’

By the time they reached the plaza, long lines of females, each accompanied by their Beast Husbands, had already formed.

"Si Shuo, over here!" A few females waved at them—they were from the Fengchuan Tribe.

Si Shuo smiled and trotted over, feeling a little awkward about cutting the line. However, it seemed everyone was a friend holding a spot for another.

"Nong Xiu, Song Ting... you all got here so early," she said with a light laugh, pulling out the fries and chips Xu Chi had made for her and sharing them with the group.

The females smiled and gratefully took some, munching away happily. CRUNCH. CRUNCH.

Without them even having to ask, Si Shuo explained how to make the snacks.

"Si Shuo, you’re so clever! Who knew you could do so many things with a single potato! We’ll bring you some more later," Nong Xiu praised.

Si Shuo smiled. "Since the fries and chips are so tasty, you could make them from potatoes and sell them. You’d definitely earn more Crystal Stones."

The females’ eyes lit up as they nodded enthusiastically. "When we earn Crystal Stones, we’ll buy pretty furs and beaded jewelry for Si Shuo!"

When they said "sell," they meant selling to stall owners or to official collection points, not setting up their own individual stalls.

The price they received was less than half of what visitors paid at the stalls, but even so, the Beastmen who came to Nanye City hauling their local specialties were more than satisfied.

This reminded Si Shuo of the idea she’d had yesterday.

She had a pottery making recipe from her system, which happened to use the high temperatures generated by burning coconut shells.

There wasn’t much pottery in Nanye City. Each workshop area only had two or three shops, and they weren’t very large. The prices were so outrageous that unless you were a powerful Beastman with Crystal Stones burning a hole in your pocket, you wouldn’t even consider buying any.

’This must mean Nanye City hasn’t mastered the art of pottery making and still relies on supplies from the Central Continent!’

’I wonder how many Crystal Stones I could get for this pottery making recipe?’

The High Priest of Nanye City led two groups of people onto the platform in the center of the plaza. After leading the crowd in several deep bows toward the Beast God Statue, he instructed the females to approach the statue in groups of ten to receive the Blessing.

The Beast God Statue was enormous, appearing to rise directly from the plaza below. It was seamless, with no trace of chisel marks, looking more as if it had been naturally eroded over millennia by the moist sea breeze.

It resembled the Xia Hua dragons Si Shuo had seen in the modern world, a chimera combining elements from many different beasts.

It had the antlers of a Deer, a body covered in fine snake scales, the eyes of a rabbit, the snout of a crocodile, the talons of an eagle, the paws of a tiger, and the tail of a fish. The sky directly above it was clear, yet it was surrounded by the crackling energy of a thunderstorm, its presence overwhelmingly powerful.

Even during a torrential downpour, not a single drop of rain ever touched the Beast God Statue.

The High Priest held a crimson Scepter, muttering incantations. One by one, he anointed each female’s forehead with Holy Water.

The crowd could see a faint golden light accompanying the Holy Water as it seeped into each female’s forehead.

The females from the Fengchuan Tribe had been holding their place in line in shifts ever since arriving in Nanye City. They were fairly close to the front, and the Blessing ceremony proceeded quickly. After five groups, it was their turn.

The males led their females up, jumping onto the high platform.

Gong You stepped forward and swept Si Shuo up into a princess carry. Seeing the little female clutch his clothes in a slight panic, he couldn’t resist lowering his head to give her a quick peck. "My sweet little thing, you need to start getting used to having me around."

’Si Shuo realized her males all had different nicknames for her. All except for that clueless Xu Chi, of course!’

The way those nicknames rolled off their tongues made her heart flutter, as if they were whispering in her ear, laden with endless affection.

She pressed her lips together and nuzzled his chest, letting out a soft hum of agreement.

Gong You let out a soft hiss. Her soft, trusting gesture was intoxicating—more thrilling than winning any number of fights, it sent a pleasant tingle through his heart.

After setting her down on the platform, Gong You patted her head. "Go on. I’ll be right here watching over you."

Si Shuo nodded with a smile and walked with the other females to the front of the Beast God Statue to receive the Blessing.

She had already watched the process several times from the crowd, and she had even asked her system about it. But when the High Priest finally dabbed the Holy Water on her forehead, she still clenched her fists and held her breath in anticipation.

The cool Holy Water touched her forehead. Suddenly, a holy light erupted from her body. Gleaming white threads began to wrap around her, growing thicker until they completely obscured her from everyone’s sight.

But for Si Shuo, her vision expanded. The world became a boundless expanse of vibrant, life-filled green. The Beast God sat enthroned upon the clouds, gazing down at her gently. "Little female, you and I are bound by fate. I bestow my Blessing upon you. May your life be filled with peace and joy, may you always find a sliver of hope even in the greatest of perils, and may your sincerity move mountains!"
