Beast World: A Fragile Beauty Blessed with Many Children-Chapter 41 - 40: Tearing Off Her Face
Xu Chi looked at Si Shuo in surprise. βI didnβt expect her to be so vigilant.β π³ππ²ππ¨ππ―πππ§ππΉ.π°πΌπ
"Yes," Xu Chi added with a nod. "And those two have some of the highest Combat Power among the Beastmen who stayed behind."
Si Shuoβs heart tightened. "Is something wrong? I have a feeling Chu Manβs been planning something big these last couple of days!"
βWhat was the most feared thing on the grasslands?β
A horrifying guess began to form in her mind. Her face paled as she said, "Xu Chi, theyβre not going to lure some Fierce Beasts from the grasslands, are they?"
There were a good number of Beastmen who had stayed behind. Even if the males at Chu Manβs side were powerful, they wouldnβt dare to cause trouble so openly. At most, they might issue a challenge as they did last time.
Besides, most Female Saints cherished their reputation. They did so to attract males with high Combat Power and successfully win them over.
On this trip to Nanye City, Chu Man had to consider her reputation, so she couldnβt afford to do anything out in the open.
If a group of Fierce Beasts arrived while thirty percent of the Beastmen were away hunting, Xu Chi, who was only a Level 3 in everyone elseβs eyes, would have a hard time protecting Si Shuo.
And if something were to happen to Si Shuo, Ji Liang would no longer have any reason to be so devoted!
Xu Chiβs eyes grew cold and grave as he stared into the pitch-black surroundings. The silence of the nightly grasslands was like that of a Fierce Beast, its maw wide open, waiting for prey to walk right in before crushing it mercilessly. "The large-tailed gray wolves of the grasslands like to hunt in packs," he said. "Theyβre a type of Wild Beast thatβs incredibly vengeful. Theyβll hunt their enemies to the death. Even Ji Liang and I would have trouble escaping unscathed if we ran into a medium-to-large-sized pack."
Si Shuo pressed her lips together. "Letβs hope weβre just overthinking this. She... she wouldnβt sacrifice so many Beastmen for her own selfish desires, would she?"
Xu Chi pulled her into his arms and gently patted her back. "Donβt be afraid, Si Shuo. I can protect you. Donβt forget, I have wings!"
Si Shuoβs heart remained heavy. Watching the Beastmen chatting and laughing around the bonfire, she had Xu Chi temporarily take down the Protective Shield.
She took a deep breath, then called out with a smile, "Female Saint Chu Man, among the Beast Husbands who stayed behind with you, it seems the two with the best Combat Power have been gone for a long time.
Arenβt you going to send someone to look for them? A lot of Fierce Beasts are active on the grasslands at night, and they like to move in packs. I hope they donβt run off and lure them over here, do you?"
βIf Chu Man really dares to do this, disregarding the safety of so many Beastmen, then Iβll tear that shameless mask right off her face!β
At her words, the Beastmen all turned to look at Chu Man.
They had all been traveling together for several days, so how many Beast Husbands a Female Saint had and what their Combat Power was were topics of great interest.
Chu Manβs expression turned ugly, but she forced a smile. "Our family is large, and the males eat a lot. Wu Jun and Gan Mu were worried we wouldnβt have enough food, so they went to catch up with the hunting party.
Si Shuo, I know you have something against me, but donβt you think youβre going a little too far with your words?
With so many of us Beastmen here, any nearby Fierce Beast Group would be drawn to us regardless. How can you pin the blame on my Beast Husbands?"
Si Shuo chuckled. "I just wanted to learn from the Female Saint how to live peacefully with so many Beast Husbands, so I was paying close attention.
I happened to notice that the males with the best Combat Power had left, so I was naturally worried for you!"
With that, she patted Xu Chiβs arm, had him raise the Protective Shield again, and paid Chu Man no more mind.
Si Shuo began browsing the items in her supermarket, pondering what could cheaply and effectively handle the worst-case scenario without exposing her secret.
Chu Man was so furious her chest heaved. Gritting her teeth, she whispered a few instructions to the man beside her, "Go get them back. And remember, do not lure the Gray Wolf Beast Group here."
The male glanced at the deathly silent night, his brow furrowed as he acknowledged the order. Under everyoneβs gaze, he transformed into a brown bear and sprinted away.
But the brown bear hadnβt been gone for long before a Beastman caught the thick scent of blood in the air. He shot to his feet, his expression changing drastically. "This is bad! There must be a Fierce Beast Group nearby!"
Everyone scrambled to pack their things. The night was as thick as ink. A Cat-Eagle Beastman flew into the sky to survey the situation. When he saw the countless pairs of glowing green eyes, each as large as a walnut, his voice trembled. "Weβre surrounded by Wolf Beasts... So many, so many Wolf Beasts..."
As his voice faded, the large-tailed gray wolves all began to howl excitedly.
The howls came from all directions, even from across the narrow river!
Clearly, more than just one or two packs had been drawn here. Their numbers were so great that even the High-level Beastmen trembled with fear.
Chu Manβs expression became utterly ghastly. She could feel three of her Beast Marks burning with a suffocating heat, and then, they began to fade...
"No, this canβt be happening! Wu Jun and the others are so powerful, how could they possibly be dead?" She shook her head, unable to stop herself from screaming in disbelief.
βThose were a Seventh-Level Ape Beastman, a Seventh-Level Elephant Beastman, and a Level-6 Brown Bear Beastman! How could they be killed so easily by a Fierce Beast Group?β
The higher a maleβs Level, the prouder he was. It wasnβt easy for even a Female Saint to win their hearts.
Everyone was already frozen stiff with fear, their limbs cold. Hearing her say that even Seventh-Level males had become food for the Fierce Beasts sent them spiraling into even greater despair.
βAre we all going to die here tonight?β
Si Shuo pointed out several prepared barrels of extra-strength pepper spray to Xu Chi, gesturing as she whispered, "Xu Chi, in a minute, use your Wind Ability. See if you can spray this on the Gray Wolf Beast Group.
Make sure to avoid our own Beastmen. This stuff is highly damaging to their eyes. Even a small amount on the skin will cause a painful burning sensation."
Xu Chi nodded. With a slight lift of his hand, a small Tornado drew all the pepper spray out of the barrels, wrapping it up. He then added a Protective Shield around it to contain the choking smell.
The Tornado split into countless smaller vortexes, each carrying the potent pepper spray within its own Protective Shield. They drifted silently above the Wolf Beast pack that was facing off against the Beastmen.
Wind was a ubiquitous element of nature, especially on the grasslands at night where it constantly whistled past oneβs ears. In such a tense atmosphere, who would notice these harmless-looking, airborne packets of pepper spray?
Seeing that he was ready, Si Shuo snapped her fingers.
Xu Chi gently stroked her hair. The small Tornadoes instantly broke their outer Protective Shields, and the pepper spray shot out like a torrential shower of needles, aimed directly at the faces of the Gray Wolf Wild Beasts.
It was so fast the Gray Wolf Wild Beasts didnβt even have time to blink!
The instant the pepper spray hit their eyes, a searing, fiery pain caused the gray wolves to howl miserably and roll around on the ground.
"What are you standing around for? Hurry up and kill the large-tailed gray wolves!" Si Shuo shouted urgently when she saw the Beastmen were still frozen in a daze.
The Beastmen finally snapped out of it, their faces lighting up with delight. Except for those assigned to guard the females, the rest all shifted into their Beast Forms and charged the large-tailed gray wolves.
The large-tailed gray wolves, having temporarily lost their ability to fight, were quickly cut down by the Beastmen, each killed with a single, fatal blow.
Even the few large-tailed gray wolves that hadnβt been hit were no longer a threat to the Beastmen, who grew bolder with every passing moment of battle.
All the fear, despair, and indignation from moments before now transformed into a thick, murderous battle lust!
Just as the battle was drawing to a close, the hunting party, having been located by the Flying Beasts, arrived. Caught in a pincer attack, the thousand-strong pack of Gray Wolf Wild Beasts was completely annihilated.
The thick scent of blood drifted far and wide. But this time, it was no longer an alluring bait. Instead, it was a death warrant, and not a single Fierce Beast dared to approach...
