Beast World: A Fragile Beauty Blessed with Many Children-Chapter 388 - 387: You Know What He’s Called, Why Not?
The Beast God really wanted to pretend he wasn’t there, but the matter the young female brought up was truly of great importance to him. He couldn’t just keep playing deaf and dumb.
"Discuss what? Haven’t you already arranged everything properly?" The Beast God ground his teeth and finally appeared. He really did have a love-hate relationship with this young female.
Si Shuo chuckled. "Lord Beast God, the situation is urgent. I just took the liberty of making preparations first. All that’s left is to wait for your command."
"And if I don’t give the order, you’ll do nothing?"
"Of course. These are your people. They worship you in the hopes that you, the Beast God, will bless this land with peace and joy. They should be able to survive and protect their families through their own hard work, not just hopelessly wait for their doom.
Without them, your power will grow weaker and weaker, until you lose your very reason for being."
’This young female sees things far too clearly. How annoying.’
"So? What do you want from me now?" the Beast God said irritably. "Most people do good deeds without asking for anything in return. You’re the first young female I’ve ever seen who holds out her hand demanding a reward!"
"You just mentioned doing good deeds for virtue, but what they’re seeking is a blessing. Instead of just waiting for you to bestow some random blessing, isn’t it perfectly normal for me to pick a satisfactory reward myself? That way, you can give a blessing that’s exactly what I want...
Even the smartest people are still animals; we need positive reinforcement for doing good things. For example, take helping an old woman cross the street. If every time, the woman doesn’t thank or appreciate the person, but is instead cold and dismissive, or even verbally abusive, do you think anyone would keep doing good deeds?
Without the right kind of emotional feedback, even the most fervent heart will grow cold..."
The Beast God knew he couldn’t argue with this young female. He’d say one sentence, and she’d come back with a whole basketful of reasoning, every line of which could convince him.
"Besides, if the Beast Tide crisis is averted, the Beastmen’s core strength will be preserved. They’ll be able to survive and thrive for hundreds more years, and you, the Beast God, will continue to receive their worship and reverence. Meanwhile, my mates and our cubs are running themselves ragged. At most, they’ll get some material goods and a bit more power. That’s completely out of proportion to the enormous contribution they’re making.
I could let it slide if it were just me, but I can’t stand by and watch them become unsung heroes who give their all and ask for nothing in return. Only a fool would do that. Besides, the Beast God isn’t a petty person, right?
Just a little guidance from you would be enough to benefit them for a lifetime!"
"Why don’t you just tell me what reward you want," the Beast God said, completely exasperated. He decided to be direct.
Si Shuo had thought about this for a long time. She just smiled and said, "I know that if I ask you why our family has to leave Guangshou City, you’ll definitely say that some secrets of heaven cannot be revealed.
So I won’t bother asking. Instead, I’ll ask for three promises that are within your power to fulfill. How about that? I’ll tell you what they are when I’ve decided."
A blank check is the most expensive kind. The Beast God hesitated, but then he considered her contribution. Downgrading an apocalyptic-scale Beast Tide to something merely large... whatever the young female requested, it probably wouldn’t be excessive in comparison.
"Fine. But as you said, it has to be something within my power. Nothing too outrageous," the Beast God added, still uneasy.
Si Shuo nodded enthusiastically. "You can count on me. Am I the type of person to make an outrageous demand? Of course not. I’ll only cash in a favor when I truly need your help, right?"
’Hah, she’s so shameless her face could be used as a city wall.’ The Beast God grunted a reluctant agreement and vanished.
Si Shuo opened her eyes, a weight lifted from her mind. Smiling, she threw herself into Gong You’s arms. "Gong You, we’re all going to be okay!"
Gong You held her tight and chuckled. "Yes. We’re always working hard on our Cultivation and our lives. We’ll definitely be able to turn any misfortune into a blessing. Several of us will be joining the trial this time, so we’ll strive to raise our cultivation even more."
Si Shuo nuzzled his chest. ’Her mates were so devoted and hardworking. Back in my own era, you couldn’t find partners this good even if you searched with a lantern.’
"I just asked the Beast God for three promises. When the time is right, I’ll tell him what they are. Maybe leaving this place won’t be a bad thing after all," Si Shuo whispered.
Gong You ruffled her hair. "No matter what, the most important thing is that our family grows stronger."
He was always so level-headed.
As dusk fell, the family finished dinner and went to get settled by the sea. Xiao Cheng stayed behind to keep Si Shuo company. After Gong You finished setting up the Time Law, the others left for the Southwest Forest with Ji Liang and Tuanzi.
Only she and Xiao Cheng remained in the huge cave by the beach. But before Si Shuo could feel lonely or start to worry about the others, Xiao Cheng began to run happily back and forth on the sand, a single male creating the cheerful noise of three thousand. "Ahhh! Sister, it’s really just the two of us this time! Even though it’s only for a little over a Beast Hour, I’m so happy!"
Si Shuo smiled, her lips pressed together, and took a slow, deep breath. ’There’s no point in me worrying about them from here,’ she thought. ’It will only put me in a bad mood and dampen this little fox’s enthusiasm.’
"Si Shuo, just say the word! What do you want me to turn into?" Xiao Cheng’s eyes sparkled, his three tails spinning in circles and kicking sand everywhere.
Si Shuo had only just become pregnant with Yu Zai the previous night, but because of the Time Law, more than seven days had already passed. She was still under the "newbie protection period" the Qing-Sheng Flower provided for the cub in her belly.
"A lemur!" Her eyes twinkled as she recalled a nature documentary she’d once seen. She smiled, trying to hold back a giggle.
Xiao Cheng grinned. He knew his female loved to have fun, so he happily obliged, transforming into a lemur. He held his arms up and hopped sideways, and his comical appearance made Si Shuo burst out laughing.
He tilted his head and transformed again, this time into a Pallas’s cat. Its thick, long fur made its body look plump over four stubby legs, and its face was a perfect mix of fierce and dopey.
Si Shuo froze, completely overwhelmed by his cuteness. But before she could pounce, the lingering spring chill of the beach sand seeped into his paws. The bone-chilling cold made him lift his feet one after another, shaking them in a little circle.
Xiao Cheng waited for a good while, but the young female only stared at him with sparkling eyes instead of coming over to hug him. He couldn’t help but curl his tail under his paws for warmth and let out a questioning, "Mrowr!"
Si Shuo cleared her throat. "Xiao Cheng, is that a Pallas’s cat you’ve turned into?"
Xiao Cheng nodded. He wanted to wag his tail smugly but remembered he was sitting on it. "Mrowr! I figured since you’re a Cat Beast female, you’d probably like your own kind.
So? Is my fur long enough? Am I fierce and imposing enough for you?"
Si Shuo tried to hold it in, but she couldn’t help but laugh as she scooped him into her arms. "Pff-haha... Xiao Cheng... Haha, I know! Pallas’s cats are very particular about their environment, so they’re hard to find in ordinary places.
It’s amazing that you could even transform into one for me. It’s just... I used to know a Pallas’s cat. Do you know what his name was?"
Xiao Cheng’s fur bristled slightly. ’What the hell? She knows another male!’
"Sun Simiao! Ha ha... ha ha... Do you know why?"
