Chapter 320: Chapter 319: My Hand Has a Mind of Its Own

Si Shuo stifled a laugh, and the males’ eyelids twitched as they tried to do the same. But the cubs couldn’t hold back. They collapsed to the ground one by one, roaring with laughter, forcing their Fathers to help them up with exasperated sighs.

Even Sweet Ring, who couldn’t maintain his human form for long and had reverted to a little white snake, was shaking so hard with laughter in his Father’s hand that he looked like a wiggling worm!

Jiao Tang kept his mouth tightly shut, unable to speak lest he spray water. With a gloomy look on his little snake face, he glared at everyone in turn.

’They were the ones who made me perform, so why are they laughing at me? What’s so funny about this? I drank a bellyful of water; it’d be weirder if I *didn’t* puff up like a ball.’

But Si Shuo, with her itchy fingers, just had to poke Jiao Tang’s belly. The little guy, who was struggling to keep his mouth shut, lost control. As the entire family shouted "Don’t!" in a mix of helplessness, powerlessness, and terror, he opened his mouth, and a pillar of water shot directly at everyone.

The males moved with lightning speed, scooping Si Shuo and the nearest cubs into their arms to shield them. They were slammed against the cave wall by the powerful jet of water. In an instant, the cave became a churning lake, its waters spilling down to the level below.

Jiao Tang hastily clamped his mouth shut and shot his Mother a resentful look!!

Seeing her entire family soaked to the bone because of her one poke, Si Shuo chuckled sheepishly. "Um, well... my hand has a mind of its own."

The males sighed in resignation. As the saying goes, curiosity killed the cat. It was a good thing Jiao Tang had spat out water. If it had been fire, Ice Blades, or lightning, their lives might have been in real danger!

Si Shuo bit down on a Dust Cleaning Talisman, and with a single thought, her family and the cave were clean and dry again.

Jiao Tang was now back to his normal self, which reminded Si Shuo of the Chomper from *Plants vs. Zombies*—it also needed a cooldown period after devouring something.

Sure enough, the little guy’s body slowly shrank, eventually returning to its original size, and he became agile again.

"Did you really fit all that water in there?" Si Shuo asked curiously, grabbing her son and turning him over and over for inspection.

Jiao Tang looked as if he had lost the will to live. He could only wrap himself tightly around her wrist to stop her from flipping him around. ’Who was it that was so afraid of snakes before? And who is it now that’s not even treating this snake like a person!’

He gave a muffled "mhm."

"So, Jiao Tang, can you absorb more?"

Jiao Tang tilted his head, sensing for a moment. "More. Three times." ’Does that mean he can absorb three times that amount of floodwater?’

Ji Liang smiled and patted the little one’s head. "The Devouring Ability will level up slowly. Right now, he’s only in the awakening stage. This kind of superpower is heaven-defying and incredibly powerful, but it also easily provokes jealousy and fear in others. So, Jiao Tang, you must never reveal your unique ability in front of outsiders, understand?"

"And you’re not allowed to use your superpower to stir up trouble or do bad things, you hear?" Si Shuo added. "We are born human, so we must know to be grateful and keep some kindness in our hearts. We don’t have to be bleeding-heart saints, but we can’t do things that harm others for our own benefit. Heaven is always watching. Good will be rewarded with good, and evil with evil. It’s not that retribution won’t come, it’s just that its time has not yet arrived!"

Jiao Tang nodded his little head seriously. "I understand."

Si Shuo looked down at Sweet Ring, who was coiled around Ji Liang’s wrist. "What about you, Sweet Ring? What’s your superpower?"

Sweet Ring shook his head. He didn’t know!

Jiao Tang had absorbed all the water in the valley, but they were worried that some bored Beastman might also slip behind the waterfall and discover the secret.

So, Jiao Tang spat out half the water he had swallowed, and only then did the family return to Bamboo Forest Mountain.

The weather grew colder day by day. It rained for another two days before the skies finally started to clear. Everyone breathed a huge sigh of relief and slowly began to take the cubs out for walks, waiting for the floodwaters to recede.

With so many cubs in the family, walking them required two or three males to follow—one in front and one in back—to prevent any mischievous or curious little cub from falling behind when no one was looking. Every single one of them was the family’s precious treasure.

Knowing that his Mother loved to eat fish, and now that the abundant rainwater had connected the rivers, lakes, and ponds into a vast expanse of water, Jiao Tang plunged in to find all sorts of fish, shrimp, and crabs for his Mother. Ji Liang also transformed into a black snake and followed close behind.

Bamboo Forest Mountain was a continuous range. As the water level dropped a bit, the cubs had more room to play. Xuyou, the "big sister," showed off her incredibly social nature, leading her younger brothers and sisters scrambling over several mountains and making many new friends along the way.

Since it had stopped raining, the Beastmen who had been sheltering elsewhere started paddling their wooden boats around to play, bringing their cubs or females with them. Some water-loving beast types would occasionally take a dive into the water, checking for fish and shrimp while they were at it.

After finishing her morning practice, Si Shuo would also go out with the cubs.

The Winged Dragon Clan cubs had inherited some of their clan’s domineering and brutish nature. When they poked their heads out of the water, they loved to spray people on the shore. Or they would thrash about forcefully, splashing water everywhere.

Just as matters between females were left for them to resolve on their own, the adults were not supposed to interfere in conflicts between cubs as long as things didn’t go too far. Otherwise, the conflict could escalate and potentially affect the stability of the entire Beast City.

The Winged Dragon Clan and the Iron-eating Beast Clan had never been on good terms. They couldn’t target the Iron-eating Beast Clan directly, but they could bully the tribes and families that relied on them.

And so, a few adolescent Winged Dragon cubs, who were only three to five years away from adulthood, were loitering in the water next to the two mountains the Iron-eating Beast Clan had rented. Whenever they saw cubs near the shore, they would either spray them with water or suddenly leap out to scare them. They even went as far as to use their tails to drag the little cubs into the water. Their behavior was despicable, making the adult Beastmen grit their teeth in anger, but as adults, they couldn’t step in to teach these Winged Dragon cubs a lesson.

As for Beastmen of the same age, those with comparable strength weren’t good at swimming, and those who were good at swimming didn’t have wings!

Soon enough, a little friend ran to Xuyou to complain. "Big Sister, some Winged Dragon cubs are bullying my big brothers! They’re so mean, blah blah blah..."

Si Shuo was leisurely cracking melon seeds when she heard this and almost choked on one.

Zhi Le patted her on the back with a helpless expression and handed her a flask of honey water.

Si Shuo took a sip of water. Once she’d swallowed, she grabbed his arm and laughed. ’Oh my goodness, Xuyou is just a little bean! Even with the boost from the Time Law, she and her siblings are only seven or eight-month-old cubs. They eat a ton and grow fast, but they still don’t even come up to my waist.’

’And now they’re supposed to handle the problems of older cubs. What kind of mistaken impression has Xuyou given this group of tattletales—who are also just little beans—to make them think she and her siblings are all-powerful?’

But Xuyou, that righteous female cub, was instantly filled with righteous indignation, rolling up her sleeves. She called her younger brothers and sisters and marched off menacingly to see what was going on.

Si Shuo followed along to watch the show.

Before they even got close, Si Shuo could see the cubs on the shore from a distance, jumping up and down in anger. Some cubs with the Earth Element Ability were materializing numerous rocks, which they hurled into the water.

The Winged Dragon cubs easily dodged the rocks and sprayed water back onto the shore.

Every cub on the shore was soaked to the bone. Some were even knocked off their feet by the force of the water, which sent the Winged Dragon cubs in the water into roaring laughter.

Little damage, maximum humiliation!

The little cubs standing next to them couldn’t take it anymore. They shouted in their high-pitched, childish voices, "Don’t you get too cocky! Our Big Sister is here...!"
