Beast World: A Fragile Beauty Blessed with Many Children-Chapter 316 - 315: Cracked
Everyone else had also caught on by now. A cough was impossible to suppress—the more you tried, the harder you’d cough. And it was true, the Yichu Saintess hadn’t coughed for a good while.
"Si Shuo Divine Female, do you really know how to diagnose illnesses? The Yichu Saintess doesn’t have some kind of plague, does she?" a Beastman asked worriedly.
Si Shuo smiled and nodded. "Although females and cubs are physically weaker, as long as they get enough nutrition, they won’t fall ill easily.
Yichu is a Female Saint with many males in her family, so she’s definitely able to eat and drink her fill. Don’t you see how sturdy she is? She just pretends to be delicate all day long.
If she were to get sick, it could only be the plague. When it rains, all sorts of filth and grime get into the water. If you don’t practice good hygiene, it’s very easy to catch something.
What’s more, she’s a Mouse Beastman..."
"That’s right! We Mouse Beastmen are very resilient; we don’t get sick easily. The Yichu Saintess was just angry that Wei Ce doesn’t see her as his Mother, so she was throwing a fit and playing a joke. Everyone just enjoy the show, don’t take it seriously," the Clan Leader of the Black Striped Mouse Clan explained, having rushed over upon hearing the news. If the accusation of plague stuck, their entire Black Striped Mouse Clan would be mercilessly driven out by the other Beastmen.
"Yichu, tell us. Are you really sick or are you faking it?" an elder asked, his face cold.
Yichu was so angry she was trembling all over. Her head felt a little dizzy. She wanted to unleash her fury, but she couldn’t find a suitable excuse.
Now, with the Clan Leader and the elder dragging her down, and facing their warning glares, she reluctantly nodded. "I was so angry that my chest felt tight and I had no appetite. I lay down without eating anything, and my family just assumed I was sick."
Si Shuo couldn’t help but laugh out loud. "So, it was your family who had good intentions but ended up making a mess of things? Then how do you explain your ’COUGH COUGH COUGH’ from just now?"
The other onlooking Beastmen couldn’t help but laugh along. This was stripping Yichu of every last shred of dignity. And Yichu was someone who cared deeply about her reputation; right now, she was so furious she’d lost the will to live.
One lie often requires countless more to keep it afloat.
Yichu said, exasperated, "I was testing Wei Ce’s filial piety!"
"And did you see it? Our family is all prepared for your funeral. Which spot would you like to pick to lie in your coffin and be buried in the mountains? They say you raise children to provide for you in your old age, and a key part of that is seeing you off at the end. Wei Ce is doing an excellent job on that front. With a whole mountain at our disposal, how could we possibly not have a place to bury you? You don’t need to dream about a big house; you can have an eternal rest on the mountain," Si Shuo said in a tone that sounded utterly sincere.
Yichu shrieked a couple of times, "Go, go, go, go! I won’t stay here, all right? Just hurry up and leave! Don’t be an eyesore!"
Si Shuo sighed. "Brother Ce, it seems the Yichu Saintess isn’t fated to enjoy the privilege of you providing for her in old age and seeing her off. But that’s alright. Our family’s mountain will always have a spot reserved for her.
Let’s go, let’s go home and eat something good... Let me tell you a story. A person raised a chicken and gave it a massive bowl of feed every day. Do you know why it didn’t gain a single pound?"
None of the onlookers could guess. Fowl don’t know their own limits and would eat nonstop if they could. With such a massive bowl of feed, it should have been getting fat.
Wei Ce scratched his head. "Shuo, I can’t guess."
"Haha, it’s very simple. Because next to it was a big gray wolf, staring at it every day with eyes green with hunger. It would be a miracle if it could eat in peace..."
Yichu understood. Si Shuo was subtly insulting her. Even if she went to Wei Ce’s home, she would be surrounded by her natural enemies. Just being stared at by them would be enough to make her heart pound with fear; how could she possibly have any appetite?
Back at home, Wei Ce pulled Si Shuo into a tight hug, smiling as he gave her a kiss. The SMACK was especially loud.
Si Shuo blushed and glanced around. The other Beast Husbands were each busy with their own tasks, while the cubs, tired from playing, were all asleep in their little castle.
"I never knew our Shuo had such a sharp tongue. Usually, it’s the Yichu Saintess who leaves everyone else speechless. This is the first time I’ve ever seen her so flustered she had nothing to say."
Si Shuo lifted her chin slightly. "That’s why I say, problems with other females should be handled by me. You all protect me, so I can’t just let anyone bully you!"
Her slightly smug expression was incredibly endearing.
Suddenly, Si Shuo sensed a note appear in her inventory space. The Snake Cubs were about to hatch!
The whole family was thrilled. The males played a few rounds of rock-paper-scissors, leaving Xiao Feiqiu Cheng behind to watch the house and the still-sleeping cubs.
They all followed Si Shuo and teleported back to the valley.
It was the first time in ten days that Ji Liang had taken his human form. Si Shuo immediately rushed up and threw herself into his arms, nuzzling against him.
He smiled and hugged her back tightly, kissing her forehead lovingly. "The Snake Eggs have already cracked. The cubs are coming out."
Si Shuo hummed in agreement, pulling him along as everyone gathered around the two Snake Eggs in the nest.
The cracks on them were already very obvious. Si Shuo held her breath, her gaze fixed, as if afraid she might startle them.
Ji Liang let out a soft hiss. "Cubs, push a little harder. Don’t make your Mother worry."
The two cubs were quite obedient. With a final burst of effort, they pushed open the already-cracked eggshells. One was a little black snake, a miniature version of Ji Liang, with a small, round head, crimson patterns on its belly, and golden eyes. It was exceptionally cute and beautiful.
Without any revulsion, Si Shuo found she already loved her cub. Still, she didn’t dare reach out her hand, simply smiling and waving a little. "Hello, Little Black. I’m your Mother."
The little black snake went HISS HISS, flicking out its slender red tongue and tilting its head.
No matter how Si Shuo looked at it, she found the little guy to be handsome, dorky, and cute all at once. But her human conditioning ran too deep. Even though this was her own cub, she kept a certain distance. She loved it dearly but didn’t dare to hold it in her arms.
Just then, the shell of the other egg was also pushed open, revealing a little white snake. It had fine, snow-white scales, scarlet markings on its belly, and azure eyes. It, too, was almost unreasonably beautiful!
Si Shuo couldn’t help but grab Ji Liang, excitedly pointing at the two Snake Cubs. "Ji Liang, are these really our Snake Cubs? They’re so beautiful and cool! I love them!"
The two cubs had been anxious, worried that their Mother would be afraid of them for being Snake Beast cubs. Hearing their Mother’s direct and enthusiastic praise, they wriggled their bodies joyfully, and with a slight push of their tails, they leaped onto her arm.
Si Shuo felt two cool, slippery little things land on her arm. Her body went stiff. She turned her head and came face-to-face with two pairs of tiny, bead-like eyes, one gold and one blue. She struggled to swallow the scream that was rising in her throat.
’Oh my god!’ She dug her nails into Ji Liang’s arm, forcing the corners of her lips into what she hoped was a loving, motherly smile.
But her smile looked worse than if she’d been crying, and her hair was practically standing on end with fear.
The two Snake Cubs immediately drooped their heads. ’Mother is a liar. She says she likes us, but she’s scared!’
A pang of pain shot through Si Shuo’s heart. Seeing the Snake Cubs’ disappointment and sadness washed away most of her fear. She quickly began to explain and coax them, "Little Black, Little White, you have your Mother’s inherited knowledge, right? You should know that we humans tend to keep a respectful distance from snakes. Your Mother really, really likes you, it’s just that my mind can’t switch over all at once. When I first met your Father, I was very scared of him too. But look, doesn’t your Mother love your Father very much now?"
