Beast World: A Fragile Beauty Blessed with Many Children-Chapter 313 - 312: What Bad Intentions Could He Have?
"Shuo, I’ve condensed a two-story house out of stone on the summit. We’ll hide out there for a while, but as long as there are no outsiders, we’ll go back to living in the cave," Wei Ce said, so hungry he could barely stand. He grabbed the meat congee from the table and scarfed some down before he continued.
Si Shuo nodded. "Everyone else is heading for the mountains to escape the rain. We can’t be too different. We have to make it look convincing."
The family did a quick tidy-up, leaving Ji Liang to continue incubating the egg in the room. Everyone else used Teleportation to return to the second floor of the main hall in their residence.
The water here was already past their ankles. The family stood on the stone steps Wei Ce had condensed.
First, they wrapped Si Shuo and the cubs tightly in Beast Skins, leaving only their faces exposed. They even wore large Beast Skin hats on their heads.
The males put on a show. As they transported Si Shuo and the cubs to the stone house on the summit, they also made a big performance out of moving their supplies for the rainy and winter seasons, making over a dozen trips back and forth.
From their residence to Bamboo Forest Mountain, there was nothing but a roiling, yellow ocean. Only two-story buildings, tall trees, and the busy Beastmen moving their homes were visible.
The Flying Beasts transported females, cubs, and supplies back and forth, over and over. Some were also using large wooden basins as boats, gliding across the water.
Ostensibly, their family only had one Flying Beast: Yin Jiang. He transformed into a Hunting Falcon, grabbed a huge bamboo and rattan basket that Si Shuo had just created, and flew toward Bamboo Forest Mountain with Si Shuo and the cubs crouching inside.
The Beast Husbands swam through the water, each balancing a rattan basket on his head.
The rain had lessened slightly, but the constant drizzle still formed a curtain of water, making it impossible to see very far.
When they encountered acquaintances, everyone just nodded from a distance without exchanging many words. They were all hurrying to and fro.
The stone house on Bamboo Forest Mountain was quite large, around four hundred square meters. Wherever it encountered a bamboo stalk, the stone flowed around it to form a column, giving it a somewhat palatial style.
The floor inside was several feet higher than the ground outside, but the air was thick with moisture, and the walls were damp and dripping.
Yin Jiang set Si Shuo and the cubs down, letting them explore their temporary lodging. He used a fire to slowly dry out the dampness in the house, while Xu Chi worked with him, using his wind ability to circulate the heat.
While the males were busy with their performance, Si Shuo examined the stone house.
The stone house was called a two-story building, but it was more like a loft apartment from her world. The roof was built extremely high, about two and a half stories tall. Wei Ce had used the stone columns encasing the bamboo stalks inside and built the second floor against three of the walls. It was about three-quarters the size of the first floor.
The second floor was a ring of spacious bedrooms, with a walkway enclosed by a stone railing that overlooked the first floor. On one side were stairs, and on the other was a smoothly polished stone slide.
On the slide’s side, Wei Ce had condensed a two-story miniature castle out of stone at the top, even dividing it into ten small rooms. Below, he had placed a swing, a wooden horse, a trampoline made from elastic Beast Skins, a toy table, and more.
The cubs absolutely loved it. They stopped pestering their parents about where to sleep and immediately asked for their own bedding, excitedly choosing rooms to decorate their own little spaces.
The males all doted on them. One would give them beautiful Beast Skins, another would pull out pretty stones, and others offered snacks or toys.
Si Shuo smiled, pressing her lips together. "Brother Ce really knows how to keep the cubs entertained. I bet they won’t want to go back to the valley for the next few nights." 𝚏𝐫𝚎𝗲𝕨𝐞𝐛𝕟𝚘𝐯𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝗺
Wei Ce held her and kissed her cheek. "If the cubs have something to do, they won’t bother you."
’That way, their little female’s time can be shared more among the brothers. It’s one thing to compete with his brothers for her attention—they’re all on equal footing. But now they even have to compete with the cubs!’
’Their little female loved to have fun and was always coming up with new ideas, so the cubs loved to cling to her whenever they were free.’
Just then, Wei Jin appeared, carrying a string of still-squirming bamboo rats. He stood at the entrance without coming in and asked with a smile, "Did any of your stored supplies get damp or flooded? If you’re missing anything or need a hand, just tell your Father. I’ll figure something out for you..."
Si Shuo poked Wei Ce in the waist.
Wei Ce smiled and stepped forward. He unceremoniously took the bamboo rats and pushed the Storage Ring Wei Jin had given them back into his hand.
"Father, I grew up a long time ago. I’m capable of protecting my own female and cubs. You don’t need to worry so much. We’ve arranged everything perfectly and will definitely get through the rainy season and cold winter comfortably.
"Actually, Shuo and the others coincidentally got their hands on two Storage Rings, so our supplies are stored safely. Here, on my last hunt in the northwestern forest, I killed a lot of Fierce Beasts and filled the Storage Ring to the brim.
"Father, you know my strength. I killed too many Wild Beasts. Even after turning in half as required and having a Flying Beast transport some back, the rest went into the Storage Ring.
"This one is yours. From now on, you have your own female to protect. Maybe you’ll even give me a little brother or sister this year. You can’t always be thinking only of us and grow distant from Song Ying and the others."
Wei Jin’s face flushed, and he glared at him irritably. "Just give me the Storage Ring if you’re going to. What’s with all this nonsense?"
Wei Ce chuckled softly. "Father, you and Mother Song Ying have a good relationship, and you have a long life ahead of you. If you can, you should have a litter or two of cubs.
"As their older brother, I’ll protect them well. They’re not like those other people."
"Those other people" he mentioned were his half-siblings from his mother’s side.
Wei Jin grunted in acknowledgment. "We’ll let nature take its course. Alright, since your supplies are plentiful, I’m relieved. I’m going to check on how the other tribe members are settling in."
’Heh, he’d come to deliver things but ended up walking away with a Storage Ring full of food from his son. As a father, he was bursting with pride.’
Once he left, Si Shuo smiled and hugged Wei Ce. "Brother Ce, the cubs and I adore you! Your mother and those half-siblings don’t know how good you are. They aren’t worth your thoughts or regrets, and your father has his own family now.
"But our Wei Ce isn’t doing so bad, either. He has me and the cubs to care for and love him."
Wei Ce pulled her into his arms, nuzzling her contentedly. "I know. I’ve finally married off Father, so he won’t be staring at our little family anymore."
Si Shuo froze for a second. ’I was overthinking it! You can’t try to read a straightforward man’s heart with twists and turns.’
They hadn’t even fully settled in when several groups of Beastmen came by, asking if they would rent out space on their Bamboo Forest Mountain.
Each of them looked anxious and spoke pitifully, saying things like their female had a cold, or their cubs had a high fever that wouldn’t break, and that they couldn’t possibly make it somewhere further away. They were willing to pay with Crystal Stones, asking only to be sheltered for two months to safely pass the rainy season.
Regarding this matter, the males didn’t let Si Shuo and the cubs show their faces, fearing they would be soft-hearted. They rejected them all, cold and merciless.
Zhi Le explained to Si Shuo, "Out of the ten males who came to ask for help, maybe one or two were telling the truth. It’s up to them to protect their own females and cubs, how can they expect others to do it for them? It’s just a matter of walking a little further. They’re not just greedy for our mountain and our house; they’re probably eyeing our food too..."
They were all very clear-headed, never forgetting that their only mission was to protect their female and cubs. They would absolutely not give any outsider an opportunity to take advantage of them!
