Beast World: A Fragile Beauty Blessed with Many Children-Chapter 309 - 308: He Actually Fed Her These
By the time Zhi Le and the others returned, the temperature had started to drop, and the rains had become more frequent.
Since the hunting and trading expedition was a group activity, they couldn’t just teleport back early. They had to curb their impatience and travel with the main party as it made its grand procession toward Guangshou City.
A day or two before the party’s return, Si Shuo’s family moved back into their residence. Like the other families, they were busy preparing all sorts of food to reward the Warriors who had been toiling away for nearly two months.
It was the middle of the night by the time the Beast Husbands arrived home. They were all eager to return, so with the exception of the males whose eyesight was poor in their Beast Forms at night, most of them had traveled day and night without rest.
Si Shuo was nudged awake. She took a bite of a Dust Cleaning Talisman and instantly felt refreshed. Laughing softly, she wrapped her arms tightly around the male’s neck and stroked his head. "Zhi Le, welcome home!"
After two months apart, Zhi Le kissed her with a fierce passion, pouring all of his longing into the embrace.
He didn’t press further, however. He simply held her and stroked her still-flat abdomen. "Have the babies been rowdy? If I remember correctly, it’s been over forty days. Why aren’t you showing yet?"
At the mention of this, Si Shuo frowned. "Zhi Le, Ji Liang said the Snake Cubs are very small, and I only prayed for two, so I won’t show that much. But I’ve been eating so much every day." 𝘧𝓇ℯ𝑒𝓌𝑒𝑏𝓃𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘭.𝒸ℴ𝓂
She had no idea what it would feel like when the Snake Cubs started to move. The thought of snakes slithering around inside her stomach made her break out in goosebumps.
She had accepted Ji Liang by mentally separating her own Big Snake Beast from all other snakes. She was still terrified of cold-blooded, soft-bodied creatures!
Zhi Le smiled and smoothed her furrowed brow. "The babies are fine. Ji Liang can sense them. All our kitty needs to do is eat well, drink well, and be happy every day."
Si Shuo smiled, nodded, and snuggled into his arms. "Have you seen the kids yet, Zhi Le?"
They communicated via letters in their shared space every few days. The Beast Husbands would describe what they saw and update her on their hunting progress, while Si Shuo would share amusing anecdotes about the children at home.
Zhi Le grunted in affirmation. "I caught a lot of little critters in the forest. Some of them couldn’t handle the bumpy journey and died on the way, but I saved a few for you and the kids to play with."
"What are they?" Si Shuo asked curiously.
"There’s a beautiful Parrot, a black-and-white, loyal, and gentle wolf-like Sheepdog, a big-tailed red squirrel, and also some poisonous insects for self-defense: a crimson spider, a long-tailed scorpion, and a multi-legged centipede."
Si Shuo immediately pushed him away. "You... you brought spiders, scorpions, and centipedes home? And they’re all poisonous?"
Zhi Le chuckled. "Xue Zhu has the Beast Taming Ability, but if she uses it in front of strangers just once, they’ll easily figure it out. The next time someone confronts her, they just have to avoid eye contact, and her Beast Taming Ability will be basically useless. So, if she carries some little critters for self-defense, she won’t be so easily taken advantage of."
"Those poisonous insects won’t be running around loose, will they?" She was terrified of such things.
Zhi Le pulled her into his embrace. "They won’t. I just had a look. Our Xue Zhu’s Beast Taming ability has two aspects. One allows her to make Wild Beasts that haven’t awakened their Spiritual Sense recognize her as their master, and the other is controlling Divine Sense.
"The poisonous insects recognize Xue Zhu as their master. We’re her family, so the insects won’t be hostile toward us. In fact, their presence will keep other venomous creatures from getting too close."
Hearing this, Si Shuo’s curiosity overcame her fear. "Insects can be obedient too?"
Zhi Le smiled and nodded. "Of course. Rather than saying they’re obedient, it’s more that Xue Zhu has hidden a sliver of her Divine Sense within them, making them somewhat like Xueqiu’s avatars.
"The poisonous insects are small and relatively easy to control, so it has no effect on Xue Zhu. What’s more, the Divine Sense she splits off can slowly repair itself and become even stronger. As her Beast Taming ability grows, she’ll be able to control even more creatures..."
’The poisonous insects will be a way for our daughter to cultivate her spiritual power and protect herself in the future.’ Si Shuo realized she would have to slowly overcome her fear.
The two of them hadn’t been cuddling for long when Wei Ce, who was waiting outside, couldn’t hold back any longer. He yelled at the top of his lungs, "Is Shuo awake? It’s time for lunch!"
Si Shuo flopped helplessly into Zhi Le’s arms. ’The Beast Husbands have such different personalities. Wei Ce, that big oaf... Did he really have to make it sound like I’m a sleepyhead?’
Zhi Le chuckled and swept her up into his arms. "We all missed you a lot. We’ve been popping in and out I don’t know how many times. You just happened to wake up while I was in here."
Hearing him say that made Si Shuo realize just how much she had missed them, too.
Gong You had also rushed his journey, traveling through the night to arrive home that morning.
Si Shuo hugged each of them in turn, her eyes stinging as she fought back the urge to cry again.
"Mother, when can we eat?" Tuanzi couldn’t wait any longer. After getting enough affection from his Father, he sat expectantly at the dinner table, waiting.
As Tuanzi’s Father, Wei Ce also looked pleadingly at the little female, his stomach already rumbling up a storm.
This father-son duo... The tears that had been welling in Si Shuo’s eyes were forcefully pushed back. She had to laugh as she nodded. "Alright, alright, let’s eat right now!"
Si Shuo looked at the table laden with dishes while Ji Liang was still busy serving more. She smiled and pulled out several more from her space to add to the feast, all of them her personal favorites.
As usual, Xu Chi remained silent, but in his heart, he lit three incense sticks for Ji Liang.
"You guys have to try this, it’s delicious! Ji Liang’s cooking has really leveled up since he became a Father! Have a taste and guess what kind of meat it is," Si Shuo said, setting out three plates.
Wei Ce was the first to dig in. He tasted a piece from each plate and immediately announced, "Shuo, I know! It’s rat meat, bullfrog meat, and snake meat, am I right?"
Ji Liang, who was just walking in with another platter, froze. His face went pale as he turned stiffly to look at Si Shuo.
Si Shuo was stunned. She looked down at the plates. ’This... isn’t this wild boar, chicken, and eel meat?’
’How... how did it become rat meat, bullfrog meat, and snake meat?!!!’
"Ji Liang!" She puffed out her cheeks and looked at him, finding this completely unacceptable. ’I’m carrying his babies, and he actually fed me these things?’ "You lied to me..."
Ji Liang shot Wei Ce a glare, set down the platter, and rushed to embrace Si Shuo, coaxing her, "Little Shushu, the Snake Cubs have rather... unique tastes. I was worried you weren’t getting enough nutrients. These meats are incredibly nutritious, worth three to five times your normal meals. I was just afraid you’d be uncomfortable, so I didn’t dare tell you."
Si Shuo pursed her lips, her eyes drifting back to the three plates of tempting meat. ’Rats, bullfrogs, and snakes are scary, but their meat is just so delicious.’ At that moment, just looking at it made her mouth water. She couldn’t refuse it at all!
She could only turn to Wei Ce. "I’ll give you one more chance to rephrase that."
Wei Ce also realized he had misspoken. Just as he was racking his brain for what to say, he heard an extremely faint prompt from Xu Chi beside his ear.
His eyes lit up, and he declared with conviction, "I’ve eaten so many kinds of meat these past two months, my brain’s all muddled. That’s wild boar, young chicken, and fish!"
Si Shuo nodded. "That’s right. Those are the ones."
The males all stifled their laughter. The little female’s gluttony was enough to conquer her own psychological fear. Even though she clearly knew what the meat was, she showed no hesitation when it came to eating it.
Ji Liang breathed a quiet sigh of relief. Seeing that Si Shuo liked it, he began to scheme about how to stock up on more of these meats before the rainy season arrived, to give to the little female and the babies as snacks.
