The males would also spar with one another on the arenas in the square to attract the attention of the females.

All day long, their little female was either eating or talking with the other females. Her Beast Husbands watched on eagerly, but they never got a single chance to show off.

When night finally grew thick, countless new couples, unable to wait any longer, had already made their early exit.

Si Shuo condensed a pink, lantern-shaped Spirit Plant for the last female, no longer hiding the exhaustion on her face. As she turned to the side, Xu Chi stepped forward and embraced her.

She nestled listlessly in his arms, her eyes closed, not uttering a sound. It was a far cry from her usual self—always full of energy, smiling and affectionate even when she was tired.

Upon seeing Ji Liang, Si Shuo finally showed some reaction. She struggled out of Xu Chi’s arms and threw herself into Ji Liang’s, where she began to cry. It was a quiet, choked weeping, her muffled, aggrieved sobs like a flurry of fine needles pricking relentlessly at their hearts.

Their eyes immediately reddened.

Ji Liang’s face grew cold and dark, his gaze sweeping over the other males. ’A whole group of them, and they still let their little female suffer such a huge grievance!’

He didn’t carry her back to her room, though. Instead, holding her just as he would a cub, he supported her weight with one arm and gently stroked her back with the other. "Little Shushu, why are you crying? Tell me, and I’ll get even for you!"

In her past, Si Shuo had never had anyone to dote on her, and her heart had been tempered like iron. No matter how sick she felt, through surgeries big and small, through countless check-ups, she had endured it all without a single complaint. She did so because nobody cared about her pain and suffering.

One could say that in her entire life, aside from the time she’d likely cried her heart out right after birth, she had only let herself go like this two or three times since arriving in this world.

But now, with so many people to pamper and cherish her, she had actually grown more delicate. Hearing Ji Liang’s pained, coaxing words, she found it even harder to stop her tears, and her quiet sobs turned into outright wails.

Gong You was beginning to understand why she was angry. He hurriedly said, "Sweetheart, we were wrong. We shouldn’t have kept the procedures of the Female Saint Conference from you at all."

"And you were so ’meticulous,’ so ’thorough’ about it all, just so you could watch me be completely in the dark, like some little fool."

Xiao Cheng looked at Si Shuo with pleading eyes. "Si Shuo, you know what I’m like. If you tell me to go east, I’ll never go west. I will always protect you."

"Just protecting me? Without any thoughts of your own? What did I get Beast Husbands for, then? I might as well be like Li Hui, pick a Beast Taming superpower, and just summon a group of High-level Fierce Beasts to guard me."

She sat up straight, her expression solemn, and her voice was still a little hoarse from crying. "Do you know why I’m angry?"
