Kai sighed in frustration.

Why was it that the universe didn’t allow him to talk to Lina? Was the deity of romance in a bad mood or something?

However, he also wanted to speak with Chunlei, so he crossed his arms and stayed rooted in his spot.

"What are you talking about?" Kai asked.

"Scary," Chunlei said, his smirk widening.

Kai clicked his tongue. "Look, if you don’t have anything important to say, then I’m going to leave."

Chunlei chuckled and placed his hand on Kai’s shoulder.

"Geez," he said. "You’re on edge today. I thought you’d be happier for someone who just won against the second-best team in the entire city."

A small smirk graced Kai’s lips.

"Well, if you put it that way," he muttered.

"Anyway," Kai said, clearing his throat. "Why am I scary? I’ve already gotten a haircut."

Chunlei shrugged. "It’s not your appearance. It’s your skills."

"I thought I was a genius for hiding my real skills in our past games, but I didn’t expect you to put down a reverse card."

"I still don’t know what you’re talking about," Kai said.

"You," Chunlei said, pointing at his chest. "You’re hiding your real skills. You must be saving it up for when you play against Max Zhou, right?"

Kai pursed his lips.

Hiding his real skills?

Of course, he had thought about it.

Now that he was on the Master level, he felt that he was significantly better than his peers. Even Yuze, whom he felt was untouchable when he first joined the team, now became someone he surpassed.

However, he didn’t deliberately hide his real skills.

Instead, he just had no reason to show them all off.

As the game progressed, he realized that it wasn’t a battle of skill but a battle of intellect.

The teams had similar skill points ever since the Shizi Dogs curated the perfect line-up. As he played with Chunlei, he also realized that he didn’t have to exert so much effort.

Chunlei was actually behind him in terms of skill.

So, he used his intellect to beat them instead.

With that, Kai looked Chunlei in the eyes and smiled.

Chunlei groaned in frustration. He sat on one of the chairs and led Kai to sit next to him.

Kai glanced at Lina for a moment before sighing and taking a seat next to Chunlei.

"You had me there," Chunlei said. "I didn’t expect you to be so good."

Kai smiled. It was great to be acknowledged by a great player like Chunlei.

"Is that all?" Kai asked.

Chunlei clicked his tongue and gently slapped the back of his head.

"You’re not even going to comfort me when we’ve lost?" he asked.

Kai scratched the back of his neck. "Why would I do that? It’s not like you’re pitiful or something."

Chunlei shook his head in amusement. "I rooted for you since the first time we met," he said. "Is that how you speak to your first supporter?"

Kai raised one eyebrow. "You definitely looked down on me," he deadpanned.

"I’m telling the truth!" Chunlei defended himself. "You were really funny that time. You even called your school ’Shitty High.’"

Kai shook his head as he recalled the funny memory. It was only last year, but it already seemed so distant.

It was because he had improved significantly since then.

"Well, do you have anything else to say?" Kai asked after a while.

Chunlei chuckled as he played with the drawstring of his jersey shorts.

"You’re indifferent until the very end, huh?" he muttered.

"Well, that’s good," he continued.

Kai frowned in confusion. "Why do you keep speaking in riddles?"

Chunlei smiled and faced Kai. "Remain indifferent as you are," he said. "That’s what’s going to get you to the top."

"Don’t get distracted, and always put your dreams first. Don’t get stringed up with love or anything like that," he advised.

"Moreover," Chunlei continued, finally breaking eye contact.

His gaze hardened as he focused on the wall.

"Beat them for me," he said, making June frown in confusion.

"Who?" Kai asked.

Chunlei shrugged. "All of them," he said.

Kai chuckled. "You’re getting ahead of yourself. We’re still going to play against the Xing Stars."

"I’m not talking about the Xing Stars," Chunlei chimed. "Not even the Yin Yang Knights."

Kai’s eyebrows raised. "So, you mean…"

"Yes," Chunlei responded before Kai could even finish his statement.

"Beat them all at the Nationals," Chunlei smiled.

Kai mirrored his smile, feeling excited for what was to come.

"You’re giving me too much credit," Kai said. "I’m not even part of the Elite Five."

"Well, of course. You’re not at their level," Chunlei said. " But I can’t say that I’ve been beaten by a team who placed last in the Nationals. Imagine the shame that it will bring to my name."

Kai shook his head. "You’re still thinking about your reputation even now, huh?"

However, he didn’t feel offended since he knew that it was coming from a good place.

With that, he nodded.

"Alright," he said.

Chunlei turned to him.

"I’ll keep your promise," Kai said. "Watch me get to the top."

With that, Kai stood from his chair, not bothering to look at Chunlei.

Then, he turned around—where Lina was.

However, as he turned around, he realized that they were the only two people left in the room.

He turned to Chunlei with furrowed eyebrows.

"Where are they?" he exclaimed.

Chunlei chuckled and stood from his seat. "I guess you were so enamored by our conversation that you didn’t even hear your teammates saying goodbye."

"Well, it must be because you’re so endeared by my presence."

Kai clicked his tongue and shook his head. He wanted to talk to Lina before they dispersed!

Kai was about to leave the restaurant when Chunlei called his name once again.

He turned around, annoyance evident in his expression.

"What now?" Kai asked.

Chunlei straightened his posture before speaking.

"I have another advice for you," he said.

Kai’s eyebrows relaxed as he waited for what Chunlei was going to say.

"Don’t hold back," he said.

"When you face the Yin Yang Knights, don’t hold back."

"Max is more powerful than you would believe. He might be ranked fifth in the Elite Five, but he’s still there for a reason."
