Back To The 80s-Chapter 640: Extra Three: Galsang Flower on the Plateau (Part Twelve)_1
Lu Weiyi was left speechless by Sun Meng’s assertion, she awkwardly asked, "Make what bet?"
With a bitter tone, Sun Meng said, "You disappear for a year, and if Chen Gang can’t forget you and he still manages to find you, then I’ll admit defeat. However, during this year, you can’t go looking for Chen Gang, otherwise, it doesn’t count."
Lu Weiyi wanted to say no, but she didn’t know why the ’no’ on the tip of her tongue turned into, "Alright." Actually, Lu Weiyi was being a bit petty, she believed in Sun Meng’s words that Chen Gang still had someone else in his heart.
Sun Meng added, "The bet starts tomorrow, no going back on your words."
Lu Weiyi solemnly vowed, "Don’t worry, if I dare to break my promise, punish me by not allowing me to be with the one I love for the rest of my life."
Sun Meng couldn’t help but tear up, she spitefully made another comment to Lu Weiyi, "Also, do you believe you could win over the woman in Chen Gang’s heart? That woman has been rooted in his heart for many years, everyone in the camp knows."
Lu Weiyi pursed her lips, gazed at the lights outside the window in silence, she cared, of course she did. If Chen Gang found her, she would have to clear this up first. 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝙚𝔀𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝒐𝒎
After only a few days, Lu Weiyi regretted it, cursing herself for making such an oath. She wanted to look for Chen Gang but didn’t dare due to the fear of her oath coming true.
After half a year, she went to Gu Xiaobei and indirectly asked him about Jiujiu and Chen Gang. She pretended to be curious and asked if Chen Gang liked Jiujiu?
Gu Xiaobei was surprised, "How could that be? If love means to let go, it shows that the love isn’t strong enough. Genuine love is knowing that you’ll be shattered to pieces, yet you still go for it."
Later on, Lu Weiyi saw Chen Gang in a video and couldn’t hold back any longer. She went to the Tibetan Area thinking that if she bumped into Chen Gang on the street, it wouldn’t be related to her oath, right?
Chen Gang looked at the preoccupied Lu Weiyi, leaning over to lightly nip her lip, "What are you thinking about?"
Lu Weiyi looked at Chen Gang, "Did you like someone before?"
Chen Gang looked seriously at Lu Weiyi, feeling that since he decided to truly love her, there should be no secrets between them, he replied in a deep voice, "You know I have a sister named Jiujiu, but we’re not related by blood right?"
Lu Weiyi nodded, she knew that and was very clear about it.
"Jiujiu and I grew up together. She had a hard time when she was young, but she was sensible, was very organized in everything that she did and never gave anyone any trouble. Back then, I thought I liked her and that when she grew older, I would marry her. However, Jiujiu fell in love with Li Duo. I felt that I couldn’t accept it at that moment, so I applied to come to the Tibetan Area after graduation. When Jiujiu got married, I sent her a large bag of Galsang Flowers, hoping she would always be happy."
Listening to Chen Gang, Lu Weiyi felt a tinge of jealousy. What a beautiful childhood romance, filled with so many wonderful memories.
Chen Gang saw Lu Weiyi pout and couldn’t help but give her a peck, saying, "Back then, I didn’t know I would meet you, a girl who loves to get lost and lose things when she goes out. And yet, this girl makes me worry so much. Then I realized, my affection for Jiujiu was that of a brother’s love for his sister, not the love between a man and a woman."
Lu Weiyi’s eyes were filled with expectation, hoping for Chen Gang to continue speaking.
However, Chen Gang suddenly changed the subject, "Why don’t you change your clothes? I’ll take you out for hotpot, Tibetan hotpot."
Lu Weiyi let out a disappointed sigh, shouldn’t he be making a passionate confession?
Chen Gang acted as if he didn’t see Lu Weiyi’s disappointed expression. He felt that spoken love was too light; he wanted to prove his love with a lifetime of protection.
There was a Tibetan hotpot restaurant in this small city. When Lu Weiyi just arrived, she had been there once with her colleagues. She didn’t know if she was just in a bad mood or if she hadn’t adjusted yet, but she didn’t think the Tibetan hotpot was that good compared to Old Beijing’s copper pot with thinly sliced meat.
Tibetan hotpot isn’t like ordinary hotpot where you dip vegetables in; it stacks layers of meat and vegetables in a copper pot, resembling a small hill, while the soup is a clear, milky-white broth made from yak bones, it’s quite bland.
This time, because she was eating with Chen Gang, Lu Weiyi thought the Tibetan hotpot tasted quite good.
Seeing Lu Weiyi eating with gusto, Chen Gang’s mood also improved. He couldn’t help but lean over to give the oily-mouthed Lu Weiyi a kiss, "How can you be so thin? If you like it, eat more. Whenever I have time, I’ll take you to eat this."
Lu Weiyi pouted, complaining, "Are you saying I’m too skinny? If that’s the case, don’t hug me anymore."
"Be good, eat another meatball. It would be more comfortable if you were a bit chubbier," said Chen Gang, indulgently stuffing a pork ball into Lu Weiyi’s mouth.
Sun Meng stood at the entrance of the private room, listening to the conversation inside. She couldn’t help but tear up again. She lifted her head to look at the ceiling, trying to calm her emotions before knocking on the door gently.
Chen Gang and Lu Weiyi were a bit surprised to see Sun Meng.
Sun Meng flashed a smile at them and said, "May I sit down?" She had accompanied Chen Gang to the hospital, watched them holding hands going to the hot pot restaurant, her heart was completely broken. She had to bravely put an end to her unrequited love.
Lu Weiyi nodded awkwardly, "Sit down, we just started eating. What do you want to eat? I’ll ask the waiter to add more dishes to our order."
Sun Meng waved a dismissive hand, "No need, I just have a few words to say."
Chen Gang glanced casually at Sun Meng, then continued to put food into Lu Weiyi’s bowl.
Seeing Chen Gang’s caring actions, Sun Meng’s heart ached. She looked at Lu Weiyi and said, "Lu Weiyi, I’m sorry!"
Lu Weiyi quickly waved her hand, "It’s all in the past, let’s not bring it up again."
Chen Gang looked suspiciously at Lu Weiyi, then at Sun Meng, wondering what was going on between them.
Sun Meng looked at Lu Weiyi and said, "I’m sorry. If it wasn’t for me, you two would probably be married by now."
Turning to look at Chen Gang, Sun Meng continued, "Chen Gang, I wish you both happiness in the future. I’ve submitted my transfer application. Hopefully, we can meet again someday!"
Chen Gang pondered over Sun Meng’s words for a moment, simply nodded his head without uttering a word.
After Sun Meng left, Lu Weiyi looked at Chen Gang and asked, "Do you know that Sun Meng likes you?"
Chen Gang nodded. He had always known, which is why he kept a polite distance from Sun Meng, never discussing anything personal beyond work.
Lu Weiyi was taken aback, "You knew? Then, why didn’t you like Sun Meng? She is beautiful and shares the same career with you. You have a lot in common."
Chen Gang placed another meatball into Lu Weiyi’s mouth before saying, "One just doesn’t like who they don’t like. There’s no reason why."
Lu Weiyi playfully pouted, "Did you fall in love with me the first moment you saw me?"
Chen Gang wraps his arm around Lu Weiyi’s neck, planted a fierce kiss on her and said, "Why are you asking such silly questions?"
After dinner, Chen Gang took Lu Weiyi back to her dormitory in the hospital, then swiftly returned to his military base.
He needed to quickly submit his marriage proposal. He needed a long leave. He wanted to take this worrysome woman home as his wife, and perhaps there was already a little life taking root in her belly.
Chen Gang spent the entire morning submitting his marriage papers and applying for a forty-five day leave, which was quickly approved.
In the several years that Chen Gang had been in the Tibetan area, he had seldom taken any home leave. Now that he had a need, it was sure to be fulfilled.
Lu Weiyi was impressed by Chen Gang’s efficiency. In just two days, the political examination form was in front of her. Looking at the grinning Chen Gang, she couldn’t help but sigh, "You are so afraid that I won’t take responsibility for you, aren’t you?"
