Back to the 70s: My Childhood Sweetheart Spoils Me Rotten-Chapter 808 - 810: Big Brother Is Awesome
Gong Ruini didn’t expect that as soon as she took a little break, she’d wake up to such a bombshell of news.
Oh my god, seriously? Gong Ruini was as surprised as could be, there wasn’t the slightest hint of this coming.
This is definitely a piece of explosive news, comparable to a nuclear bomb.
Gong Tao was quite displeased, "Why study Philosophy?"
Cai Meina was equally puzzled. Despite her favoritism towards the younger son, she knew the family depended on the elder son, especially with the family business needing Gong Ruwen.
Everything was going well, so why would this child choose to study this major, Cai Meina looked bewildered.
Typically, people who study this major either become scholars or enter government work.
Cai Meina knew her children had decent grades, but she absolutely didn’t believe they had a deep love for studying.
Enter government work? No way, Cai Meina was eager to persuade Gong Ruwen.
Even someone as capable as Zhao Xuran hadn’t considered entering government work, so why would her own son? Cai Meina was worried about many things.
Helplessly, she looked at Gong Tao, hoping he had a way to stop this.
Gong Tao gave a wry smile; what could he do? If he had a way, he wouldn’t be troubled here.
"Are you sure about this?" Even though there had been no signs, it wasn’t entirely unexpected for his son to have this thought.
The problem is, the son hasn’t been exposed to such influences at all. Can he adapt?
As for the issue of a successor, Gong Tao hadn’t thought about it yet.
"I’ve made up my mind, Dad. I know I’m being a bit selfish, but I want to give it a try." Although he was determined, he needed his parents, especially his father’s, approval.
Give it a try? Cai Meina was about to scold. If this path were easy, everyone would take it. She glared at Gong Tao, hoping he’d disapprove.
Cai Ming had considered the idea—he was a good candidate—but the family was large, and the burden couldn’t all fall on Wan Qiweng. In encountering this issue, he had some regrets.
Unexpectedly, Gong Ruwen had this idea, "I think it’s possible."
"Rui Wen is steady by nature and doesn’t need to worry about money."
"Most importantly, we also need our voice."
"Although we can rally a group of people, will they continually support us?"
"Rui Wen, rest assured, uncle will remember your contribution." Cai Ming assured he would remember Gong Ruwen’s efforts.
Cai Meina was furious; the situation was already complicated, yet this boy was still causing trouble, didn’t he think it was troublesome enough?
She glared fiercely at Cai Ming, but he completely ignored her.
Cai Ming wasn’t against following Cai Meina’s wishes, but seeing that Gong Ruwen had made up his mind, he felt they should encourage him.
If Gong Ruwen could really pave a path for himself, it would be good for everyone.
If he couldn’t, he could still come back to inherit the family business.
Cai Ming thought this way, and so did Gong Tao; whether or not the eldest could walk this path would be clear in a few years.
Seeing her husband not objecting, mixed with her younger brother’s support, Cai Meina, though unwilling, could only choose to ignore these bothersome matters.
"Everyone has their own ideas; you all sort it out yourselves." Cai Meina stomped out angrily, needing some peace. Keeping focus on these people, she wasn’t sure if she could hold back her anger.
"Mom." Gong Ruini yawned sleepily, rushing towards the dining room, worried her parents might scold her.
But why was her mom running outside, and so quickly? Was she coming to call her?
Gong Ruini felt a shiver, and just when she was about to say she was already up, her mom’s figure disappeared. What was going on?
Gong Ruini thought for a moment, not quite understanding, so she continued towards the dining room, sure her mom wasn’t coming for her.
"Mom, what’s wrong?" Gong Ruini walked into the dining room to find the atmosphere strange, as strange as could be. What was going on?
"Your mom was scared by your brother." Cai Ming wanted to chase after Cai Meina to talk, but he held back the thought.
Before, in the Northeast, he thought his sister was quite formidable; now, after these years of education, she somehow seemed more childish.
Scared by brother? What happened here? How did Gong Ruwen scare her? Her big brother was always the darling child, never causing trouble outside.
"It’s true." Gong Ruwen genuinely didn’t expect such a reaction from his mother; if he had known, he would’ve broached the subject more gradually.
"What did you do?" Gong Ruini looked bewildered. Her big brother was definitely the pride of their parents; how did this happen?
Did he impulsively do something foolish today?
But that seemed impossible, not with Zhao Xuran keeping an eye out.
Gong Ruini shot a questioning glance at Zhao Xuran, wondering if it was her earlier outburst and he took it out on her big brother?
Gong Ruini’s curious look caught Zhao Xuran’s eye, who thought Ni Zi, as usual, wanted to ask him what was going on, feeling a little smug. Had he known her actual thoughts, he’d have been furious.
"I just plan to work in government in the future." Gong Ruwen couldn’t imagine how angry his sister would be upon hearing this, as he rubbed his nose.
What?! Her big brother actually wanted to serve the public. This was such a big leap; Gong Ruini had never thought Gong Ruwen would go into this field. "Weren’t you studying economics?"
Not that studying that major meant not serving the public, but given their situation, big brother could work a few years under national arrangement, gain some experience, meet more people, then return to take over the business.
Now, suddenly making such a turn, Gong Ruini felt quite dizzy. "Brother, are you sure about this?"
"It would be tough." Sigh, no one would guide the way. If big brother stayed in the business circle, at least Zhao Xuran would help guide him.
"I’ve thought about it." Her immediate concern was about the challenge, rather than disapproval. "I want to try."
"All this time, I’ve been following Brother Xu Ran’s path too closely; I also want to see if I can try something different."
Her brother even had such a complex. Gong Ruini was truly surprised, always thought Gong Ruwen was so good-natured, never expressing his opinions.
This time, her brother actually spoke up. "Brother, I support you."
"Brother, you will do well, and then I’ll have a strong backing." No matter how tough it is, support is necessary.
Even if they have no one, what does it matter? They have money; they could open factories to attract investment—her brother isn’t lacking in ability.
"Mm." Being a backing? Gong Ruwen liked the sound of that. "Sis, I will definitely be your strong support."
