Chapter 737: Chapter 739 Furniture

Zhuge Zhi knew that after getting the house, a few kids excitedly went to check it out.

It would be false to say he wasn’t feeling a bit lost; regardless of the memories the house held for him, at the very least it represented his youth.

He never imagined that someone outside the Zhuge Family would live in that house. He always thought that even if there were a black sheep, he wouldn’t see it in his generation, but he did.

Zhuge Zhi sat quietly in the study, without even turning on the light, just looking at the moon outside and reminiscing about the past.

Zhuge Zhi wanted a quiet space to himself, but Gong Ruini was dumbfounded. How come Zhuge Zhi wasn’t there?

There didn’t seem to be any emergencies today, no calls for Zhuge Zhi, and certainly no car visits, yet he wasn’t around.

She turned her head toward Ge Yunkui, who pointed at the study, indicating Zhuge Zhi was inside.

Someone in the room but not turning on the light, that’s a sign he’s not in a good mood. If he were in a good mood, he would definitely share it with everyone.

As for why he’s in a bad mood, Gong Ruini understood right away—she was also being foolish.

"Grandpa, can I come in?" Gong Ruini asked softly at the door.

If the other person is in a bad mood and doesn’t respond, then she should just turn around and leave, as it wouldn’t be right to disturb them.

Someone—it’s Ni Zi; why would she be here at this time? It took Zhuge Zhi a moment to snap out of it. Didn’t he instruct Ge Yunkui that if it wasn’t something important, not to disturb him because he wanted some quiet time?

Seems like the old fellow was worried about him; this old chap likely didn’t go look for Gong Ruini, so this girl must have come to find him.

But why would she be looking for him now, Zhuge Zhi didn’t understand. "Come in."

Allowing her in suggested that his mood was manageable, and Gong Ruini gently pushed the door open. Although not much of an antique appreciator, she couldn’t help recalling how Ge Yunkui ranted about how this seemingly ordinary study had such a notable background.

Upon entering the study, she surveyed the room again, marveling at how this represented the foundation of an established family, comparing it to what a nouveau riche couldn’t attain. Although the wood was a precious material, the most valuable aspect was that this furniture was a complete set, crafted by a renowned artisan family from a bygone era.

"What’s the matter?" This girl come in just to look around, a girl who loves money but isn’t greedy, "Do you like this set of furniture?"

"Who wouldn’t like it?" Gong Ruini didn’t think her current expression was odd. If antique enthusiasts came in, who knows how thrilled they’d be.

"When you get married, how about I give you a similar set of furniture?" Zhuge Zhi had plenty of collectibles, and having no descendants meant he’d gift it to juniors he was fond of.

Coincidentally, those he was fond of weren’t people related to him by blood.

Give her a set? No way! Gong Ruini’s heart almost leapt out of her chest. This was practically cash—no, perhaps even the green bills of old foreign gentlemen; in any case, it represented money.

"No, I can’t take it." Such a precious thing, Gong Ruini wouldn’t dare accept it; its value is too great to just casually take.

Not to mention her parents wouldn’t agree, even Gong Ruini couldn’t get over it mentally.

Not taking it? This result was understandable. Someone might think Gong Ruini was just pretending to be modest, but Zhuge Zhi knew she wasn’t like that, seeing as he’d see this girl get married.

"What brings you here, girl?"

Luckily they didn’t continue down that topic, making Gong Ruini breathe a sigh of relief. If the old man stayed on this topic, she really wouldn’t know what to do.

"We’ve taken a look at the house as a whole, and we plan to..." Gong Ruini handed Zhuge Zhi the plan they wrote.

If they had a computer, a floor plan would be even nicer. Unfortunately, they didn’t. Though Gong Ruini could draw, dealing with such a large project would be incredibly tiring.

More importantly, she wasn’t a designer, so she couldn’t clearly label everything. To save time, they wrote it out in words instead.

"The house is yours now, just do as you see fit." Though Zhuge Zhi spoke casually, he picked up the notebook with noticeable speed.

After looking over it, "You didn’t make major changes?"

After examining it for a while, Zhuge Zhi noticed the changes were focused on the garden, and none of the smaller courtyards had been altered. What was up with that?

"Our idea is not to change the exterior structure, and let the interior be up to whoever lives there; as for the communal areas, we’ll maintain them as before."

"The garden, however, definitely needs proper renovation." Gong Ruini described the results of their visit, and the condition was really terrible.

Zhuge Zhi seldom visited the old house, typically only going to a few spots, never the garden. Although aware the condition wouldn’t be great, he hadn’t expected it to be so bad.

"They used to say selling the house would offend the ancestors, yet those living there never bothered to tidy up." Zhuge Zhi knew they thought spending money to fix it up would be a favor to the other two households but didn’t consider that a tidy-up would also lift spirits.

"Even just planting some fruit trees would be good." Zhuge Zhi recalled Gong Ruini mentioning planting more fruit trees in a large yard, and indeed, after they moved in, their own courtyard had quite a few fruit trees planted. 𝐟𝚛𝕖𝚎𝕨𝗲𝐛𝚗𝐨𝐯𝐞𝕝.𝐜𝗼𝗺

Though most hadn’t borne fruit yet, seeing the lush trees suggested a bountiful harvest was on the horizon.

Even the grapes had yielded significantly, and a few barrels of wine had already been made. That’s the difference between knowing how to live and not knowing how to live.

"Losing face, isn’t it?" Anyway, Gong Ruini didn’t think her idea was bad; as for the Zhuge gentlemen and young masters, aside from not wanting to put in the labor, maybe they thought it wasn’t dignified.

But they’re not considering the fact that rolling away with nothing now isn’t a face-saving matter.

This made sense, even though the eldest brother wanted to maintain some semblance of face until the end, "I’m satisfied with the yard revamp, but why is my name written here?"

Zhuge Zhi finally noticed that the courtyard he lived in when he was young actually had his name on it; what was that about?

"We all thought labeling this courtyard with your name was fitting, though it underwent significant changes." The house was big, but so many people lived there, so every room was turned into living space if possible.

Plus, there were quite a few illegal structures; they just built wherever possible, not that they were all adept at construction, but at least they should build the house beautifully.

Seeing Gong Ruini’s conflicted look, Zhuge Zhi gave up on checking the house out for the next few days. It might be drastically different from before, so he’d rather keep a bit of anticipation.

"Looking forward to the revamped results."

"We’ll certainly make sure you’re satisfied, Grandpa." Gong Ruini didn’t dare promise a complete restoration to the past; times were changing, and their house’s interior needed some updates too, like heating and plumbing.

"We’ll be disturbing you quite a bit then, Grandpa." However the other houses were arranged was their business, but Zhuge Zhi’s courtyard had to reach a level of satisfaction for him.
