Chapter 53: Episode 53: The gods Intervention.

Roxy’s head lolled back, sniffing into Zarek’s masculine scent. "I can’t... I’m tired..."

"You cannot stop," Zarek growled, leaning close to her face. "You have to hold on, Roxy. So I can take you home, our home!"

His intensity, his sheer arrogance, was strangely grounding. Roxy was itching to bite him, just the way she did before. That would be the only way to mirror this pain on him.

"I hate you," Roxy whispered to him.

"Good," Zarek replied. "Hate me. Use your hatred and push." 𝐟𝕣𝗲𝕖𝕨𝗲𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝗲𝚕.𝗰𝚘𝐦

Roxy pushed. Not because she was trying to obey him, but because she needed to push, she wanted to get them all out of her body.

The second baby slid out easier than the first. A girl. She was darker, her fuzz black like Mara’s fur.

"A daughter!" Mara cried, wiping the baby down.

Two down. One to go.

But something was wrong.

The relief didn’t come. Instead, a coldness spread through Roxy’s lower body. The room started to spin. The faces of Kaelen and Zarek blurred together into a two-headed monster.

"Roxy?" Kaelen’s voice sounded like he was underwater. "Roxy, look at me."

"Tired..." Roxy mumbled. Her grip on their hands went slack.

Sera, who was at the foot of the bed, suddenly went pale. She dropped the towel she was holding. The white furs beneath Roxy were turning red. Not just stained. Soaked.

She was losing a lot of blood.

"She is bleeding," Sera whispered, horror in her voice. "It’s too much!"

[System Alert: HEMORRHAGE DETECTED.]

[Uterine Atony. The organ is failing to contract after rapid multiple births.]

[Blood Loss: 20%... 25%...]

[Host Vitality: Dropping.]

Zarek smelled the blood. The metallic scent hit him, and his pupils contracted.

"Fix it!" Zarek roared at the wolf women. "Stop the blood!"

"We cannot!" Sera cried, pressing towels against Roxy, but they soaked through instantly. "The third pup is still pushing out!"

Kaelen went white. He looked at Roxy’s face. Her lips were turning blue. Her skin was turning paler, and the fear that he might lose her was beginning to turn him feral.

"Roxy," Kaelen pleaded, shaking her shoulder. "Stay. You promised. You said you would stay."

Roxy’s eyes rolled back in her head. The darkness was creeping in at the edges of her vision. It was cold. Colder than the swamp.

How do people even do it.... I want to stay awake.... I can’t afford to sleep...

"System..." she tried to say, but no sound came out.

[TheMotheroftheWorld and TheSassyGoddess suddenly echo We are both going to help you!]

Zarek saw the light fading from her eyes. He felt her hand go cold in his.

The Dragon King stood up. The bed frame cracked under his grip.

"If she dies... I will leave nothing alive on this earth." Zarek said, his voice void of emotion, void of humanity.

Zarek looked at the blood. He looked at the wolf pups crying on her chest. He looked at the woman who had tricked him, fed him, and loved him.

He didn’t know what to do.

He was not good with females and their birthing process, so he hated the fact that he didn’t know what to do.

While everyone was panicking, Roxy’s soul had drifted somewhere else.

The agony vanished instantly.

One moment, Roxy was being torn apart by pain and blood loss; the next, she was standing on a floor made of clouds. The air smelled of vanilla and expensive perfume.

"Am I dead?" Roxy asked, checking her hands. They were translucent. "Great. I didn’t even get to spend my millions. I am going to haunt that system."

"You are not dead, darling. You are just taking a short mini break.."

Roxy spun around. Two women stood before her, radiating light so bright it didn’t cast shadows.

Oh my fucking god, that scared me.

One of the ladies looked divine; she wore flowing white robes embroidered with gold thread. Her hair was silver white, and her eyes were large, shimmering pools of kindness. A literal halo floated behind her head.

[TheMotheroftheWorld]

The second woman was the complete opposite. She had fiery red hair cut in a sharp bob, cat-like green eyes, and was wearing a dress made of red.

Roxy didn’t need to look at her name tag before she knew who it was.

It was very obvious.

[TheSassyGoddess]

"You’re real," Roxy whispered.

"We are watching," TheMotheroftheWorld cooed, stepping forward to cup Roxy’s face. Her hands were warm. "Oh, my poor child. You have worked so hard! The farming! Giving birth to those children!"

"The drama," TheSassyGoddess grinned. "Truly top-tier entertainment. Zarek burning the forest? Chef’s kiss."

Roxy crossed her arms. "I’m glad my trauma is entertaining for you. Can I go back now? I think I left the stove on... inside my uterus."

"You are fading, Roxy," TheMotheroftheWorld said, her expression turning serious. "Your body is human. It was not meant to birth beasts. Even with the System, your life force is leaking."

Roxy’s heart dropped.

Of course, she was not meant to birth beasts; she had been doing all these things to survive, and she was literally dragged into this world without her permission.

Well, technically, she was pushed to make a decision.

But... she never wanted this!

The MotheroftheWorld shook her head in pity, and reached into her robe and pulled out a golden seed. It pulsed with a heartbeat of its own.

"Take this," she whispered, placing it in Roxy’s palm.

"What is it?"

"Vitality," TheSassyGoddess said, stepping closer. She poked Roxy’s stomach. "Listen to me, honey. You have four kids now. A dragon and three wolves. If you don’t get your cardio up, they will eat you alive, literally and metaphorically."

"Eat more," TheMotheroftheWorld advised, closing Roxy’s fingers over the seed. "Eat the meat. Eat the herbs. You are not just feeding yourself anymore; you are feeding the future of this world. You need to be able to take that responsibility."

"But I didn’t even want to take on this world!" She snapped back.

It seems like they were not even listening to me.

"Exercise," TheSassyGoddess added with a wink. "And by exercise, I mean... keep doing what you’re doing with the Kings. It’s clearly working for your glutes."

Roxy chuckled, a sound that felt light and free. "You two are ridiculous."

"We are fans," TheMotheroftheWorld corrected, hugging Roxy tight. "Go back, Moon Mother. They are waiting."

TheSassyGoddess cheered. "Give ’em hell, Roxy."

The golden seed in Roxy’s hand shattered. Light exploded.

The white space shattered like glass, and the cold, hard reality of the Iron-Wood cabin came rushing back.

[System Alert: Divine Intervention Received.]

[Vitality Restored.]

But the first thing that Roxy saw when she opened her eyes was the last of the triplets in between Kaelen’s teeth. He was in his wolf form, and everything seemed to stop, even her own heartbeat.

Was he going to eat my baby?!!!
