Chapter 47: Episode 47: Talking to Baby Drax

[TheSassyGoddess scoffs, saying that this was the bitch who was whispering in the pack about you but never acted.]

She looked pale and exhausted. But she didn’t look like the threat that looked at her with killing intent.

Her hand was pressed against her flat stomach, her eyes wide with shock. She looked up as Vorn burst in, with the Luna following behind him with her huge belly.

Her face flushed immediately, not expecting the Luna to come here.

The same Luna she hated.

"Vorn?" Mara whispered.

Vorn rushed to his mate’s side. He fell to his knees, burying his face in Mara’s neck. He inhaled deeply, searching for the scent.

He found it.

Vorn let out a sob that shook his massive frame. "It is true. You are with child!"

Mara looked at Vorn, stroking his head. Then her green eyes lifted to Roxy, who stood by the door.

For a moment, Mara thought she would see the old hostility flash in Mara’s eyes, but she didn’t; instead, she looked at Roxy with fondness.

What the heck is happening right now? Didn’t she hate humans?

Mara indeed hated her coming into the pack, changing everything, and hated that Kaelen chose an outside.

But she had truly looked at the change. She looked at the dry roof that kept the rain out. She looked at the stove that kept her warm. She remembered the bowl of [Creamy Chicken Soup] Vorn had forced her to eat last night.

The food that Roxy taught him how to cook. Her hate cracked.

"You..." Mara’s voice was rough. She looked at Roxy. "You said... consistency."

Roxy let out a startled laugh, leaning against the doorframe. "I did. I assume Vorn took my advice seriously?"

Mara’s cheeks flushed a dark red. She looked at Vorn, who was weeping into her shoulder. "He was... enthusiastic."

"The Pack grows," Vorn whispered, looking up at Roxy. His eyes were shining. "Because of you. Because of the food. Because of the warmth."

He stood up and walked over to Roxy. He towered over her, a mountain of scarred muscle and gratitude.

He took her hand and pressed it to his forehead.

"You saved my bloodline," Vorn swore. "I questioned you. I fought you. And you gave me a son."

"Or a daughter," Roxy corrected gently. "Don’t be picky."

Vorn laughed, a wet, joyous sound. "A daughter would be fierce. Like her mother. And her Queen."

Roxy smiled, watching the couple. Vorn went back to Mara, curling around her protectively. The two wolves who had hated her the most were now the first to prove her right.

Well, what a massive plot twist.

But as Roxy watched the happy scene, she decided to reach out to Lyra today so she could speak to her son.

Later that night, the celebration wound down. The wolves retreated to their warm cabins. The fire burned low.

Roxy lay in bed, staring at the ceiling. Kaelen was asleep beside her, his arm draped over her like a seatbelt.

She couldn’t sleep.

The peace was too perfect. The "United Front" was too strong. It felt like the calm before a hurricane.

She reached under her pillow and pulled out the [Linked Heart-Stone]. It pulsed faintly with a warm, pink light.

The system screen flashed before her eyes.

[Please designate the Recipient for Stone B.]

Lyra, send it to Lyra. She has Drax.

Miles away, in the Dragon Caves:

Lyra was playing with Baby Drax now who looked like a 1 year old child. The baby dragon was refusing his bottle. He kept looking at the door, letting out tiny, sad squeaks.

"I know, little prince," Lyra cooed, exhausted. "I miss her too."

A pink stone appeared in the air and dropped gently into the crib. Lyra jumped back, clutching Drax. "Sorcery!"

The stone hummed. A beam of light shot up from it, expanding into a shimmering, blue-tinted hologram.

And there she was.

Roxy. Sitting in bed, looking tired, her hair messy, wearing a strange robe.

"Lyra?" Roxy’s voice came through clear as a bell. "Can you hear me?"

Lyra’s jaw dropped. "My... My Queen?"

"Oh, thank god," Roxy let out a sob of relief. She leaned closer to the projection. "Is that him? Is that my little lizard?"

Drax’s head snapped toward the light. His golden eyes went wide. He recognized the voice. He recognized his mother’s face.

"Ma!" Drax chirped, a puff of happy smoke shaping into a heart. He reached his chubby, scaled hands toward the hologram.

"Hi, baby," Roxy cooed, pressing her hand against her stone. In the hologram, her hand appeared to touch Drax’s cheek. "Look at you! You’ve grown so much! Are you eating? Are you being nice to Auntie Lyra?"

Lyra fell to her knees, weeping. "He is strong, My Queen! But the King... He went mad when he found you missing. He is tearing down every inch to get you back."

"I know," Roxy said grimly, glancing out her window. "I can sense him."

Lyra’s eyes twinkled, thinking of how deep Zarek’s bond and Roxy’s bond must be for them to sense each other from far away.

She snapped back to reality.

"Come back!" Lyra pleaded. "If you speak to him... he might stop!"

"I can’t come back yet, Lyra," Roxy said softly. "I have another task. But I need you to do something for me. Keep Drax safe. Stay in the deep caves. Do not come to the forest."

"I will guard him with my life," Lyra vowed.

"Ma... ma..." Drax babbled, trying to bite the hologram.

"I love you, Drax," Roxy whispered, tears sliding down her cheeks. "Mommy is working hard for you. I’ll bring you a puppy brother soon, okay?"

The connection flickered.

[System Alert: Battery Saving Mode. Emotional Recharge Complete.]

"Goodbye, Lyra," Roxy said. "Stay safe."

The hologram vanished.

Roxy sat there in the dark cabin, clutching the warm stone to her chest. She felt lighter. He was okay, and he remembered her.

"Who..." a sleepy, rough voice rumbled beside her.

Kaelen stirred, blinking his eyes open. "Who were you talking to?"

Roxy quickly shoved the stone under her pillow. "No one. Just... praying to the Moon Goddess."

Kaelen hummed, buying it completely. He wrapped his arm around her waist, pulling her back down into the furs.

"Sleep," he mumbled, nuzzling her neck. "The pup needs rest."
