Chapter 51 - Kael's Guidance [1]

"Kael?"

Zane stared at the man before him. He had blond hair, blue eyes, and an athletic build. One glance at him, and one could immediately tell just from his from his physical structure alone that this man was a formidable warrior.

"Yup, it's me."

He paused, he then added:

"It's been quite a while, isn't it? From the looks of it, you really have been consistent with your physical training, huh?"

Kael could somehow tell, how much Zane had improve since then, physically of course. With Zane's sweat, dripping all over his body, his clothes somehow became semi-transparent, making Kael able to see Zane's current physique.

"Well, yeah. I just thought that, if I truly wanted to be someone formidable, I should cover up all the weaknesses I have."

Kael stared at Zane for a moment, his expression looked slightly shocked. He then said:

"Woah, such admirable mindset!"

He paused, he then added:

"How about I teach you swordsmanship then? I might not be the best out there, but I am quite knowledgeable about it. I could teach you how to perfect your forms, and your stance."

Hearing Kael's offer, a soft smile appeared on Zane's lips. He then said:

'Not the best out there, huh? Are you trying to be humble?'

"That would be great!"

...

The reason why Kael wasn't well informed about how consistent Zane had been with his physical training, was because Zane would often start his exercises at night.

Although Kael would often see him sometimes, he didn't really bother approaching him before, as he didn't really want to disturb him. But, now Zane had really caught his attention.

Seeing as Zane was practicing his swordsmanship, Kael couldn't help but be curious. It was unusual for a mage to even do some physical training, especially for a Thaleward like him, who specialize in Barrier spell.

However, it was even more unusual for a Thaleward who practiced swordsmanship. Although there are people who belongs in a clan where they both specialize in weapon and magic, there were also clans who only specialize in magic, such as the Thaleward clan.

What made it even more stranger is that, it was Zane Thaleward, the man known as having the lowest amount of mana capacity in this academy, not just in this academy, but also in his clan.

...

Zane was swinging his sword, vertically, trying to do it in the right form and stance. Meanwhile, Kael was in front of him, judging his current swordsmanship skill.

For some reason, Kael's expression looked unsightly. 'Am I that bad?'

"Alright, that's enough, Zane."

Hearing Kael's words, he stopped swinging his sword.

Kael then sighed, and said:

"Zane, your movements are way too sloppy, and you can't even keep up with the same stance when you swing your sword."

'No shit dumbass, I just started last night.'

Although Zane felt hurt by Kael's criticism, he knew it was for his own good, and for his own improvement.

As Kael paused for a moment, he started to speak again:

"Zane, watch me."

As Kael said those words, he took the wooden sword from Zane's hand, which he had given to Zane earlier.

After taking it from Zane's hand, he slowly walked in front of Zane, and started taking a stance.

"The sword style that you are practicing, is a sword art that mostly people who are still navigating their way through being a swordsmanship expert. Meaning, its a sword art beginners mostly use. So, I am quite familiar with it."

He paused, then added:

"So, watch closely, Zane."

As soon as he said that, he began swinging his sword. He swinged his sword smoothly, as if he was a swordman who had experienced a thousand battles.

Despite the sword art being a beginners sword art, he still swinged it as if it was some sword art that came from a renowned family.

Zane watched Kael, as he performed the steps, which Zane had been trying to learn since yesterday. As he watched Kael perform the steps that he did earlier, he saw the difference between their skills.

Zane simply watched Kael with awe, his eyes brimming with admiration.

'How can he perform such basic swordsmanship, as if it was a high-tier sword art?!'

Soon after, Kael finally stopped swinging his sword. He then looked towards Zane, and said:

"Got it?"

Zane remained silent for a while, still stuck with Kael's performance. He then shook his head and said:

"Y-yeah, I think I got it."

Kael smiled, he then responded:

"Good, now you try it. But don't rush it too much, sometimes it really takes a while to learn something. You just have to be patient."

Kael then handed the wooden sword back to Zane.

As Zane held the sword, he stared at it for a while. Trying to remember how Kael performed the steps, the way he swinged his sword, the way he moved so smoothly.

'Alright, I think I got it.'

Zane then took a stance, doing it exactly like how Kael did moments ago. Then, he raised his wooden sword, he then swinged it. He swinged it, as he embed Kael's movements in his mind.

Zane wasn't really aware how well, or how bad he was doing. All the mattered is that he was going to learn what he was so desperately trying to learn.

He swinged his sword exactly like how Kael did it, at least to his perspective. Vertical slash, horizontal slash, sides slash, and so on.

Moments after, he was finally done. He was sweating even more, and was breathing heavily even more.

As he catch his breath for a moment, he looked towards Kael.

Kael meanwhile had an unusual expression on his face, as if he was seeing a ghost.

As Zane stared at him for a moment, waiting for him to say something. He gave up waiting, as he was taking too long. He then spoke first and said:

"Hey, Kael. How was it? Did I do good enough?"

Kael remained silent for a moment, then he shook his head and said:

"Zane, are you sure it's your first time training swordsmanship yesterday?"

Hearing Kael's question, confusion started to form on his face, he then said:

"Huh, what do you mean? Of course it is, like hell I have anytime to do any swordsmanship training with how busy I am with my magic lessons."

'Impossible, for someone who doesn't have the blood of any great clans who are known for their amazing skills in wielding a weapon, he was able to do it exactly like how I did it.'
