Ashen Dragon-Chapter 567 - 28 Massacre
Chapter 567: Chapter 28 Massacre
Chapter 567 -28 Massacre
“Boom!”
“Ha ha ha ha! Exhilarating! Never have I blasted with such pleasure!”
“Battle, awesome!”
Behind the defense line, in the artillery position, the Big Headed Ogre, Commander of the First Artillery Corps, laughed heartily skyward, his fat belly quivering.
“Boom! Boom!”
At this moment, the cannoneers were busily engaged in fiery work, the hundreds of heavy cannons firing incessantly, pelting shells into the surging Magic Tide, causing the ground to tremble violently.
And in this war, there were over a dozen such Artillery Corps, each assigned their own bombing area to ensure effective fire coverage.
Big Head skillfully loaded several hundred-kilogram shells into the specially made gigantic cannon, and with a thunderous roar, fired them off.
He lifted his binoculars to survey the distant wasteland and saw mushroom clouds soaring into the sky, as another hundred Coward Demons and Kwase Demons were engulfed by explosions.
“These demons are naturally born targets!”
The Ogre shouted to the rest of the Artillery Corps, “Where are those experimental products from the Department of Technology? Bring them all over and let’s give them a try!
Ha ha, I was worrying about not being able to use these toys, and now’s the perfect time for the demons themselves to test their effectiveness for us!”
…
“Boom!”
Another shell exploded above the Demon Legion, releasing a cloud of white smoke.
But as this smoke came into contact with the Coward Demons’ bodies, their exposed skin ignited, and their rotting flesh melted down to the bone!
“Ah!”
“Aow—”
Hundreds of demons writhed and howled in the flames, rolling incessantly on the ground until they were burned to ash.
That was White Phosphorus Bombs.
This brutally cruel weapon, publicly opposed by scholars at home, could cause tremendous casualties, and now it was exceedingly appropriate against the demons.
“Boom!”
Another shell exploded in midair, and beyond the shrapnel, it released blinding lightning, knocking down every demon within a hundred meters to the ground in an instant.
—This was the latest Elemental Shell researched by the Imperial Department of Technology, able to harness the corresponding Elemental Energy and unleash terrifying power.
Immediately after, shells inscribed with various runes exploded among the Demon Legion, with effects of Flame, Radiance, Force Field, Lightning, and even Frost all manifesting within the Magic Tide.
And for those demons flying in the sky, the Empire’s methods were even more ruthless; specially prepared shells exploded in midair releasing thousands of shrapnel pieces, instantly taking down hundreds of demons.
“Boom!”
“Boom! Boom! Boom!”
The bombardment continued, with the intense artillery fire reducing the advance speed of the Demon Legion considerably.
In the sky, the trajectories of the shells wove a crisscrossing network, enveloping the entire plain.
The artillery fire formed an invisible, blood-and-fire wall, mercilessly grinding any demon attempting to forcefully breach it.
Gunpowder smoke spread across the land, the whole wasteland quaking, and in the most intense artillery zones, everywhere were giant craters, even hillsides leveled flat.
But there were too many demons, even such intense artillery fire could not completely stop their advance.
“Forward!”
“Their attack is nothing! Forward! Do you want to be completely obliterated by Gelrazak?”
Amidst the roaring artillery, Leo bellowed angrily, riding on the back of an Abyssal Drake, waving his whip through the air, making a swishing sound.
Rather than being reborn from the Blood Pools, these demons feared total obliteration even more.
Moreover, the Coward Demons were extremely afraid of the High-level Demons stronger than them—this fear even surpassed death itself.
Under his Intimidation, the Coward Demons marched through heavy artillery fire, stepping over the bodies of their comrades, rushing towards death.
Another series of explosions covered the area where the Coward Demons were, turning hundreds of them into charred remains in an instant, vanishing from the Prime Material Plane.
“Too slow, too slow…”
“Gelrazak will not be pleased…”
Leo gazed at the demon legion, which fell one after another, yet kept dying in droves, and thought to himself.
Indeed, he had become well adapted to the environment of the Abyss, where extreme hierarchical society prevailed; these Coward Demons were like the serfs of the North, the lowest and most expendable beings.
But the Coward Demons were naturally dimwitted and slow in their actions; their combat was utterly inefficient, able to rely only on manpower tactics to halt the enemy.
“Weak scum…”
Watching swathes of Coward Demons fall before him, cut down by artillery fire like weeds, Leo clenched his teeth in hatred.
He knew he had to change the current situation if he were to have any chance of revenge.

“Berserker Demon Legion, charge!”
He raised his flaming longsword and loudly commanded those demons that resembled massive toads.
These demons had armor-like skin, covered with scales that were extraordinarily moist, and their bodies emitted a filthy stench.
The Berserker Demons functioned as infantry among the demons of the Abyss; although they were physically strong, they had low intelligence and were often easily duped by more powerful demons to fight and die on their behalf.
“Roar—”
“Crush those humans!”
The Berserker Demon leader raised his fist and shook it vigorously, leading the charge at the forefront, followed closely by dozens of Berserker Demon warriors as they advanced into the artillery-riddled zone.
“Boom!”
“Boom! Boom!”
Shells fell one after another, but they caused little harm, scarcely slowing the Berserker Demons’ advance.
These demons had armor-like skin and some resistance to flame; neither the fiery blast of the explosion nor the shrapnel did much harm unless they scored a direct hit.
And the desires of these Berserker Demons were simple: the thrill of devouring living creatures and the joy of crushing or breaking beautiful things with their clenched fists.
“Hahahaha!
Their attacks are feeble! Follow me in the charge!”
The Berserker Demon leader laughed wildly, dodging the falling shells, weaving through the artillery fire and charging toward the Empire’s defenses.
“Devour these scum of the Prime Material Plane alive! Destroy their empire!”
“Crack!”
Just as the Berserker Demon leader shouted triumphantly, a crisp sound underfoot was accompanied by the sensation of stepping on something.
The Berserker Demon looked down in confusion, scratched its head, then continued its charge forward.
In the very moment it lifted its foot—
“Boom!”
Fire blazed into the sky, and a massive mushroom cloud appeared on the battlefield. At such close range, even a Berserker Demon would be severely injured.
“Damn it!”
“You worms fostered by Coward Demons! Despicable humans!”
The Berserker Demon’s once robust legs were now charred stumps; it writhed on the ground, clutching at its legs, still cursing in the direction of the Imperial’s Wall.
“Crack.”
Another crisp sound followed.
The Berserker Demon turned incredulously, only to see a device that its torso had compressed flashing red lights.
“Boom!”
Another mushroom cloud rose on the battlefield, and this time the Berserker Demon’s body was blown open with a great hole, not surviving by sheer luck.
And the same fate befell dozens of other Berserker Demons and thousands of Coward Demons who had breached the artillery blockade.
This was the second gift the Imperial Military Department had prepared for the demons that had come from the great distance of the Abyss—a minefield.
In a thousand-kilometer long and two-kilometer-wide area in front of the defensive line, most of the mines produced over the years by the Empire had been buried—an estimated total of over three hundred thousand.
Some of them had been magically enhanced, capable of killing middle-rank demons at close range.
