341 Not Tonight

Jovani somehow managed to keep the noise down in the room after his announcement. The next time he had the chance, he would take a vacation far away from other people. Alonso might not be invited. He shouldn’t be. The man needed to take his break away from the Vedova Nera boss and far away from anything that could resemble anything work-related.

“If you two want to go through with this, you will do it by my rules since this is my residence.” Jovani kept a level tone as he looked between Emily and Cain. They didn’t try to hide their tense excitement as they listened, impatiently waiting for Jovani to finish so that they could get to more exciting matters.

“What that means is nothing will be happening today. Knowing both of you, this isn’t going to happen at the last minute when nothing is in proper order. We’ll plan to do it tomorrow when a place can be put aside from it, and others can know what to expect.” Emily looked as though she wanted to protest but shut her mouth when Jovani glared. He wasn’t about to drop his tough father persona now that he held their attention. Maintaining strictness would be the only way to keep them quiet.

“Cain, you will get your food also for you and your men, but you’re not going to be leaving your room again. You have a phone, if there is anything else you need, you can contact me, and I will make sure it is taken care of. The last thing I need on top of everything else is a bunch of little headaches popping up.”

“What kind of timeframe are we talking about, though? Early morning? Afternoon? I do need some time to prepare before everything happens.” Emily cracked her knuckles as she spoke. Her bloodlust had hardly died down, but she could shove it back longer if the fight was guaranteed.

“You can wait until tomorrow morning to find out. It will depend on a lot of other matters.” Jovani replied as he motioned for her to keep her mouth zipped.

The Vedova Nera boss would’ve scrapped the whole matter if he could have gotten away with it, but he knew neither party would drop it or allow him to forget his agreement so quickly.

“Emily, you’re going to stay with us, but Cain, I want you to return. If I find out you don’t, I swear there will be a lot of hell to pay if I have to deal with one more unexpected problem tonight.” The mercenary shot Jovani a mildly offended look.

“Me a problem? Surely you’re getting me confused with someone else. I hardly think everything I’ve done for you could classify me as a problem.” Jovani only fixed the other with an unimpressed look. Cain’s words only supported Jovani’s belief of the other being a problem.

.....

“I don’t care about that right now. If you keep doing what you’re currently doing, that will cause a problem, and I don’t take kindly to problems that give me a headache. Go back to your space, and I don’t expect to see you again until the next day.” Like scolding a badly behaved dog, Jovani snapped his fingers and pointed for the other to leave the room with a hard stare.

Cain dawdled and grumbled about the matter but ceded to the Vedova Nera boss and left the room without further protest. The mercenary stopped inside the door to let his eyes linger on the younger cousin for a few seconds before he left upon noticing the look that Jovani gave him.

“I hope you’re happy with all of the trouble you’re going about causing me.” Jovani let out a deep sigh before flopping back down on the bed. The whole situation had taken far too much energy out of him. NO painkillers or alcohol left him with far too little good humor to deal with such matters compared to normal.

“You still think that I’m going about causing you problems? I think everyone will get a little bit of fun out of this once we get it all together. Surely that man must have some other information we want from him.” Emily argued as she moved over to the door to ensure the other had left as agreed. She wasn’t the kind of person to take eavesdroppers lightly—especially not when it happened in their own house.

“There’s always information that I want to get out of people. The methods you choose to implement often become more troublesome than they are worth. I would much rather work at it from how I like to do things.” Jovani could quickly think of ten different times off the top of his head where Emily’s ideas had backfired despite the heaps of assurances she’d given him that everything would work out the way it needed to.

“So this isn’t just about setting something up for entertainment; there’s something else I haven’t heard about?” Jovani had forgotten that Samuel was in his room for a brief second. Damn it; they’d gone about speaking a little too honest about the matter.

“Not really. I tend to combine fun with other matters when I get the chance. Prizes or promises are set between the winner and loser, so I try to think of something that would make it more worthwhile for the family when I have the chance.” Emily replied smoothly. Her posture spoke of confidence. Like many other times, she didn’t believe she would lose this challenge either.

“One of these times, it’s not going to turn out the way you expect it to, and I don’t want to have to be the one to clean up after you.” Now would not be the time for Jovani to clean up after one more person. There were still too many other problems that hadn’t been dealt with.

The princess fit at the top of the list of things he didn’t want to deal with moving forward, yet he wouldn’t vanish even if he wanted it to.

“If you don’t want to have to deal with one more thing, why don’t you let me take care of this?” 𝘧𝘳𝐞𝚎𝑤ℯ𝘣𝗻𝘰ѵℯl.c𝐨𝚖

Did Samuel suggest what Jovani thought he did?
