Armed Train in the Apocalypse-Chapter 396 - 262: Underwater Laboratory_2
It actually started moving.
Except its eyes turned from crimson to pitch black.
Lao San sneakily glanced at the train conductor on the command platform and then looked down with a sigh.
He initially wanted to see some excitement, but now, with the conductor stepping in, there’s no suspense left.
However, thinking that the conductor would personally lead the operation soon, Lao San felt a thrill inside.
Since the armed train got on track, the conductor hasn’t just led a mission, even the times he took action were visibly few; the fixed time for action is recharging weekly.
"Armed Corps, officers above the second lieutenant, except for Xiaoba and He Jie, follow my lead."
"Yes!"
Qu Hang, Yu Yue, and others answered in unison.
"Combat group..."
"Present!"
Hearing his name, Lao San, fully armed, immediately stood up, chest out, head high, looking even more spirited in his all-black new uniform.
Meeting Lao San’s expectant gaze, Su Huan smirked a little.
"Stay on the train."
"You stay in the front to watch for me and prevent accidents."
"The rest, follow me into the water."
Su Huan stated resolutely, leaving Lao San dumbfounded.
He hurriedly took a couple of steps, wanting to say something but was stopped by He Jie’s mischievous grin beside him.
"Don’t you know military orders are like mountains? Just watch over here honestly."
Dejected, Lao San sat back down, glowering at the screen, as if he could peer through it.
In just a few words, the situation on the screen reversed. The Second Priest commanded eight Tier One Water Ghost puppets, battling back and forth with the Third Priest and other Water Ghosts, with fresh blood spreading far away.
Various red and black eyes glinted under the faint light.
Dozens of figures silently bypassed the chaotic underwater battlefield, heading deeper.
Su Huan’s pair of deep blue eyes carefully searched below.
Li Xiuhua’s laboratory was located on the outskirts of Xiushui City, underground in a mountainous area. It used to be a very secluded military restricted zone, but as times advanced, people slowly settled nearby, and the military zone was converted into an electromagnetic laboratory.
If the apocalypse hadn’t come, in a few years, this laboratory might be relocated.
But even if unattended, ordinary people would definitely find it hard to locate such a place.
Luckily, Shu Wei had set a general scope, and Su Huan’s team hadn’t swum in circles much before some veterans in the team identified the laboratory entrance.
The fence formed by barbed wire was covered with barnacles and rust-colored deposits, with several crooked support stakes alongside. The stakes had deactivated alarm cables coiled around them, swaying silently with the ocean currents.
Mountain Goat swam ahead to lead the way.
The team didn’t carry extra lighting equipment, relying mainly on the occasional glimmers released by the train conductor.
Fortunately, everyone was extraordinarily skilled, and it didn’t impede their movement.
Quickly, under Mountain Goat’s guidance, they arrived before a pitch-black large door.
Moving closer to observe for a long time, Su Huan could barely recognize the shape of the door.
He didn’t care how these guys found it, waving his hand to have experts swim forward to try opening it.
Li Han from the end of the line also moved up, and with a gesture, all the mutated plants quietly encircling them retreated, even the seaweed on the door receded, taking away a large patch of sludge.
Meanwhile, Su Huan was contemplating how to violently break the door.
Though unfamiliar, judging by Donghuang’s cautious nature regarding warfare, the door definitely wouldn’t be easily opened.
"Hmm?"
Su Huan raised his head in astonishment.
"Boom——"
In just a bow of the head, the door unexpectedly opened!
Before he could react, a powerful suction pulled everyone and the sludge inside.
Ten minutes later.
The group stood bewildered by the scene before them.
Warm yellow emergency lights glowed, the wide corridor was dry and bright, and there was no standing water, only watermarks from when they climbed up.
"Has the military region’s waterproofing become this good?"
Vice President Deng, accompanying the team, stared in shock at the laboratory.
Mountain Goat shrugged, "I never entered such a military region before retiring, not sure, probably just the standard..."
"Nonsense, the entire province is flooded, yet inside here it’s dry?"
Vice President Deng looked left and right.
Startled, Mountain Goat hastily intervened, "After all, it’s converted from a military area..."
Vice President Deng was dismissive, "You think this is a novel, and if we went to the wrong place, a bunch of hidden traps would shoot us dead..."
Watching their figures walking ahead, Su Huan turned to the expert who opened the door just now.
"By the way, how did you open the door so quickly?"
The latter removed his oxygen mask, bewildered as he opened his palms, "I just tried it, and it opened directly... To be precise, it wasn’t locked at all."
"Not locked?"
Su Huan squinted slightly, softly chuckling.
"Quite interesting, let’s head inside and have a look." 𝕗𝐫𝐞𝕖𝕨𝐞𝗯𝚗𝕠𝘃𝐞𝚕.𝐜𝗼𝚖
...
In the hall, six ring-shaped accelerators were arranged on shock-absorbing platforms, the coils covered with thick insulating clay, and one could even smell that brand-new factory scent.
Everyone surrounded the central platform, gazing up at the pinnacle of human technology, deep in thought.
The electromagnetic railgun was 9.8 meters long, 2.4 meters high, and 1.5 meters wide.
It had a streamlined, matte black finish, with two gallium nitride-coated rails extending parallel with a 50-millimeter gap, embedded internally with superconducting electromagnetic coils, the surface covered with dense discharge patterns.
The cannon base was supported by a titanium alloy frame, the bottom fitted with adaptive hydraulic dampers, each side having six groups of supercapacitors, each 1.2 meters long, 0.8 meters wide, the surface covered with a carbon fiber cooling net.
Vice President Deng, along with a few experts, was climbing up and down for inspection.
"The main body of the cannon is intact, there are no signs of damage..."
"The laser rangefinder is intact, with no damage..."
"The infrared tracking module is intact..."
But with each report from the experts, the atmosphere turned more bizarre and silent.
Standing behind Lu Xiao, Gao Yuan fiddled with his ring, giving Tong Zizhan a look.
’What’s going on?’
Tong Zizhan glanced back.
’How would I know?’
Gao Yuan: ’You’re military, don’t you really know?’
Tong Zizhan: ’When I left, the company permissions were just one level above yours.’
...
Bai Lu suddenly said, "Train Conductor, having found this thing, does it mean we’ve completed this mission?"
"Ha."
Su Huan sneered lightly, his eyes filled with caution.
Anyone with a bit of sense could see that this railgun and the surrounding electromagnetic weapons were deliberately placed here in the room by someone.
Just like the ammunition in the armed train, usually stored in the ammunition depot, who would just put bombs all in the train front unless under special circumstances?
The situation in the laboratory was as if someone knew they were coming and brought out all valuable items, afraid they wouldn’t know which were most valuable, arranging them directly by importance!
It could have been a coincidence that the door opened at a touch.
But thinking this situation was coincidental would make the previous four years’ punishment pointless.
Feeling the narrowed gaze scanning over, Shu Wei cautiously shook his head.
"Black Kite may know the laboratory’s location, but the weapons inside are merely a supplement to Black Kite, not worth spending huge manpower and resources to the Flood Zone."
Su Huan remained noncommittal, glancing at the nearby meditating little chef.
After a long time, Yu Yue opened her eyes, her round apricot eyes carrying a hint of confusion.
"No people, no animals, not even plants."
Su Huan contemplated, "Mountain Goat, Yu Yue, Qu Hang, the three of you lead a team to search the inside of the laboratory, be cautious not to touch anything."
"Understood."
A crowd of armed personnel hurriedly left.
Vice President Deng, engrossed with studying the electromagnetic railgun, suddenly raised his head and shouted, "We have the cannon, where are the shells?!"
Xiaozhao, holding a camera, wandered among the small equipment around.
Upon hearing Vice President Deng’s shout, his gaze instinctively fell to a box at his feet, just about to ask if it’s the right one when he noticed a piece of paper on it.
His pupils constricted sharply.
He shouted in alarm, "Train Conductor, there’s a situation!"
