Apocalyptic Rebirth: With a repairman system space, she rises again.-Chapter 625: Lightning in the sky.
One by one, the black, jagged shapes of creatures that could be mistaken for dragons dropped from the sacs, shaking the amniotic slime from their wings and shrieking in unison. The sound was so irritating that even those hiding in bunkers covered their ears.
Children started to cry.
The sky above Fortress Four turned into a literal graveyard of broken plans. More squad members scrambled into the air, their jet-boots humming as they tried to form a defensive perimeter outside the base’s protective bubble.
High above, the pink watcher let out a series of rhythmic, piercing squeaks. It sounded like a dolphin with a grudge against a sailor that had run a ship through its young one and left it in pieces.
On command, the Arcladons snapped their massive, violet-veined wings and vanished into the thick, swirling Grey colored clouds.
"Where did they go?" Major Elio’s voice crackled over the comms, sounding breathless. "I’ve lost visual! Radar is pinging everywhere.
"Did they leave?" Craydon asked.
Raydon shrugged. "Maybe they are giving up."
"They’re circling," Sunshine muttered, her knuckles white. "Command get ready to release the water and make sure it is loaded with acid. We will melt these ugly bastards and send them running back to their own world."
Suddenly, the System chimed in her head with the panicked tone of someone that had just discovered that a war was about to erupt.
[Host, I have accessed the ancient archive. From what I have discovered, Arcladons are not conventional fire breathers."
"What?" Sunshine blinked, confused. "They’re dragons! Dragons breathe fire, System. It’s in the job description!"
[ Correct for earth mythology. However, these are biologically engineered storm cells. They are heavy lightning breathing creatures.]
Before Sunshine could even process what the system meant, the fortress’s automated defense system kicked in.
The defense system had already been set to the standard anti-beast protocol: Water.
Huge, alien-constructed cannons emerged from the fortress walls, unleashing massive jets of high-pressure water meant to douse dragon fire.
"No! Shut it down!" Sunshine screamed into her radio. "Water and electricity shouldn’t mix!"
It was too late.
The water hit the lead Arcladon right in its obsidian chest. The creature didn’t flinch; it looked offended. It opened its massive maw, and instead of a flame, a spear of pure white lightning erupted from its throat.
The bolt hit the water stream, traveling up the liquid line like a highway. The cannon exploded in a shower of sparks and molten metal. A million-volt discharge tore through the air, hitting a squad of mercenaries in mid-flight.
"My suit! It’s dead! I’m falling!" Trey screamed over the radio.
"Mayday! My visor is flickering! I can’t see!"
The sky became a chaotic mess of falling bodies and short-circuiting technology. The exo-suits, designed to withstand heat and physical impact, were being fried from the inside out by the sheer electromagnetic pulse of the dragons’ breath.
"Set your exo-suits to defense mode. Activate your shields," Sunshine roared. "No water. They fight with lightning and they are probably as strong as we are in the suits. Shoot them with the arrows from the kids squad."
Some superhumans followed her instructions, shooting randomly. But they were outnumbered and there was so much lightning! The fight had shifted in seconds from a heroic defense to a desperate rescue mission as functioning squad members dove through the air to catch their paralyzed comrades before they hit the ground.
High above, the Arcladons began a coordinated assault on the bubble shield. Every time a bolt of lightning hit the dome, the translucent blue barrier pulsed violently, turning a sickly, stressed purple.
"The shield is thinning in some parts" Lisha’s voice wailed from the Command Center. "In Hunkerville, the lightning is passing through! It’s hitting the residential buildings! Guys repair the bubble; we’re going to lose lives soon. What if they enter in here!"
Sunshine cursed and released her own lightning. "System, what kind of lightning can get through the bubble? Not natural one for sure."
Those that tried to repair the bubble were electrocuted by it, because of the mixture of water and current. Only superhumans with electricity abilities dared to touch it.
Sunshine watched in horror as a stray bolt pierced the barrier and struck a watchtower, vaporizing the stone instantly. "System! Anything yet? I need a solution, and I need it before we’re all toasted sandwiches!"
[Unauthorized Purchase complete,] the System replied. [Since this is an emergency situation, I have purchased weapons that I believe are best suited to turn your enemies’ strength into their downfall.]"
"Where?" Sunshine gasped.
[Proceed to your private armory in the space.] 𝚏𝕣𝐞𝗲𝐰𝕖𝐛𝐧𝕠𝕧𝚎𝚕.𝐜𝚘𝗺
Sunshine did not know that she had a private armory, but she was happy to hear that. But the tour could wait. She vanished from the sky, into the space.
Pink noticed this and she raged in anger.
Inside the space, Sunshine was seeking the weapons desperately.
[The armory was added after your recent upgrade just in case you get stuck in another war on another world.] The System explained.
In the center of the steel room, on a table, sat three large rods. They didn’t look like guns. They looked like oversized, high-tech lightning rods combined with heavy-duty backpacks. Beside them were five boxes.
"What are these? How do they work." she asked, ripping the lid off the first box. Inside were smaller lightning rods which looked like the large ones.
[These are high grade conductors, the Arcladon’s lightning will be drawn to the metal. It will swallow everything they will release until they burn out of energy. That is when you strike. In the corner, I have packed you a bag with dust bombs from your weapons collections.
All Arcladons or creatures with similar biology to them, no matter the kind can be killed if you pin them down and make them powerless. They will struggle to aim their lightning breath at your people when you use the rods. Then, activate the bombs and toss them in the air.
After that, it will be a slaughter fest.]
"Wish me luck, and thank you, System," Sunshine whispered, her voice barely audible over the hum of the armory. In a flicker of displaced air, she vanished, materializing back within the main fortress near the gate of the base on the eastern side.
The view through the reinforced shield of her exo suit was a nightmare. Even behind the flickering safety of the bubble, she could see the effects of the sky-tearing chaos. The screams of her people weren’t just muffled echoes anymore_ they were raw, and terrifying.
