Apocalyptic Disasters: Carrying a bun and hoarding supplies-Chapter 491: Running into Yu Miaomiao
Chapter 491: Running into Yu Miaomiao
"Hello, Old Master Bai." Bai Meiyue stretched out her hand politely, in an attitude that was neither too humble nor too overbearing.
"Hello, hello." Old Master Bai reached out and took Bai Meiyue’s hand in his. The more he looked at her, the more his eyes softened. It was as if he were looking at his own granddaughter. Even Bai Yi, who was the daughter of his eldest son, didn’t receive such a warm welcome from Old Master Bai.
As the two of them pulled away, Old Master Bai said to Bai Meiyue, "I heard from Old Feng here. You are the one who has helped the elderly living at the small supermarket nearby. Aren’t you? He keeps praising you by saying how capable and strong you are."
Old Master Bai looked at Bai Meiyue and took a good look at her. Though he didn’t say anything, he knew that there was something different about Bai Meiyue at a glance. The girl was barely twenty, and yet, the look in her eyes was really fierce, as if she had seen all kinds of storms and faced them head-on.
It made his heart ache.
Bai Meiyue’s face remained calm even though Old Master Bai was looking at her with a gaze which made her slightly flustered. She simply blinked her eyes and said, "It’s nothing; I just did what I could."
After she finished speaking, Director Feng, who was standing on the side, chimed in, "Always so modest; didn’t I tell you? She is the sweetest little girl I have ever seen in the apocalypse. She has what it takes to be called human. Not like some backstabbing bastards and jerks who walk away as soon as they get some benefits," he spat once he finished speaking.
It was clear that even if Bai Meiyue had told Director Feng not to blame himself for the actions of Wang Ba, the man had yet to forgive or forget what Wang Ba had done. He had taken Wang Ba’s actions as a personal blow to his judgement.
Bai Meiyue didn’t say anything. She simply glanced at Director Feng, who was fuming and then turned to Old Master Bai, who simply looked amused by the antics of the two men.
She said, "You can arrange a place for Old Master Bai to stay as you like, Director Feng. I have told you that you are bringing in enough supplies for you to make these decisions." And she was not lying. Ever since Director Feng had awakened, he had become much stronger and more powerful.
He was even more energetic than most of the young men in Bai Xue’s team.
Thus, even if he were to bring someone to their team, Bai Meiyue didn’t care because the supplies that Director Feng brought could easily feed five or six people.
"I know, but I should still let you know," Director Feng said to Bai Meiyue. Ever since Wang Ba abandoned them and walked away, Director Feng felt like he had let down Bai Meiyue, which was why he couldn’t even dare to raise his head in front of her and felt guilty.
He worked hard and hoped that no one would be able to say anything to him.
That was the last thing he needed, being blamed for something that Wang Ba had done.
Bai Meiyue shook her head. She left Director Feng after exchanging a few more words with him. But she had hardly taken a few steps when Old Master Bai came after her. While leaning on his cane, he said to her, "Miss, I am sorry for asking this of you, but have we ever met before?"
Old Master Bai didn’t know why he just couldn’t shake off the feeling that he knew Bai Meiyue; it was subtle, but the feeling was there.
When Bai Meiyue heard the old man ask her such a question, she was a bit confused. She shook her head and then replied honestly, "I don’t think so; I have never been out of the city, and you must be from city Z, Old Master Bai."
His accent made it clear that he had never come to the city where Bai Meiyue grew up. So, how could the two of them meet one another?
When Old Master Bai heard her response, the light in his eyes dimmed, but he nodded. She was right; he had never left the Z city after he retired and had watched his sons, daughters, and grandchildren grow in front of him. How could he have run into Bai Meiyue?
"I apologise for the rudeness," Old Master Bai lowered his head, and Bai Meiyue shook her head as she said to him, "There is no need to apologise, Old Master Bai."
After she finished speaking, she turned on her feet and headed out of the building. Bai Meiyue had no definitive place in mind; she just wanted to take a walk, as she had been cooped up inside the room for a long time. She pulled her hoodie and mask up her face when she ran into a long queue that was starting at the end of the street and then stretching all the way to the building where a mall once stood.
At a closer look, Bai Meiyue saw that the people were holding small containers in their hands as they stepped out of the line. She saw a few people taking out a bag of chips, a packet of bread and a water bottle along with a slice of fruitcake.
One look at the supplies and Bai Meiyue knew that it was not enough for a grown-up man, but it was still better than going hungry. She had to admit that in some places, Yu Miaomiao was trying to do whatever she could to make sure that more and more people survived.
Of course, not many think like this. A few men who were tall and burly returned to the start of the line and snapped, "How can we survive on this little food? Where are the instant noodles and bacon sandwiches that we received before? How can we survive with this little food? Tell me."
