Chapter 38: Chapter 38: Zombie Beast

Something, or rather... an entity, pinned Leng Chuan to the ground. He was caught off guard, simply had no means to resist. The moment his figure landed on the ground, pain wrecked his entire being.

Whatever it was, the strength was monstrous, far overpowering him.

Everyone’s expression was grave. They examined the huge rotten lump of flesh in front of them. It was unknown what kind of beastman it was before—the shape was totally unrecognizable!

It was inconceivable they didn’t detect this zombie in the house near Leng Chuan’s. It had stayed inside, all too quiet.

Now, rotten blood dripped down from its skin, dark and smelly. Leng Chuan almost blacked out from the stench assaulting his nose, but he desperately held back. At this point, a piece of rotten flesh squirming with maggots had fallen on his face.

"Don’t let it bite or claw at you," Xie Ziyuan reminded. He was the calmest one in such a situation, analyzing how to defeat the monstrous thing.

Lin Yu’an held his crossbow shakily. His eyes wide, full of fear, yet he didn’t take a single step back. After swallowing hard, he put an arrow in his crossbow, aiming at its head.

He fired a shot, and an arrow embedded deep into the monster’s shoulder, yet it still didn’t let go of Leng Chuan. One hand was wrapped around his neck.

The zombie let out a gurgling sound, as if someone was strangling its throat. Everyone immediately understood this monster was probably a mute or had lost his voice before he transformed.

Xie Ziyuan kicked the monster away from Leng Chuan’s body, hurling it a few meters away, shattering a few pieces of furniture in front of the house.

Leng Chuan hurriedly got up, taking a chance to use water power to wash himself. A rotten zombie contained a high level of contaminant, and if he didn’t clean it properly, he might turn into a similar monster!

The pieces of the monster’s flesh flew everywhere, but it was still huge. Its loss of flesh was negligible. Once it stood up, it went after them again.

"Leng Chuan, what is its true form?" Ma Yongcheng’s expression was grave.

Every time a zombie appeared, it would be incredibly destructive if it wasn’t handled properly. Everyone already reached unanimous consensus that they should be killed and all traces erased.

If not, even just the flesh alone was enough to make the environment suffer. A small area around it would instantly have a high-level of contamination. If anyone gets close, an unstable person might go crazy and morph into a fallen beast before suffering the same fate—becoming a zombie.

In the long term, even a village would no longer be habitable.

Leng Chuan panted as he jumped away, smashing a few firewoods toward the monster. He gasped; traces of the blood and flesh still smeared his body. He would need a more thorough cleaning later.

When he heard Ma Yongcheng’s question, he forced out a few words. "A toad beastman."

Lin Yu’an kept firing. Since his true form was a cat, he was nimble and always managed to avoid the monster’s flesh which flew everywhere.

Xie Ziyuan was the most ferocious of them all. He held his longsword and kept on stabbing the zombie. He could tell that Lin Yu’an’s shot had slowed down because he was afraid of hurting his own teammates.

"Lin Yu’an. Use your ability. Imbue the fire into each arrow," Xie Ziyuan gave his command.

The little black cat’s eyes lit up, and he clumsily tried to practice according to Xie Ziyuan’s method. The latter moved a little far from the zombie, giving Lin Yu’an a chance to shoot the huge zombie accurately.

The zombie was too massive, so he rarely missed. Soon, sparks of fire began to burn the zombie’s skin.

The most unfortunate was Ma Yongcheng. His strength lay in his claws and teeth. He had higher stamina compared to other beastmen and could fight longer.

However, this time, he couldn’t bite the monster or he would suffer. Hence, he could only throw things in an attempt to slow it down.

Leng Chuan used his water ability to form water blades, slowly getting rid of the zombie’s thick rotten flesh bit by bit.

Under their combined might, Xie Ziyuan finally managed to stab into its heart and severed its head.

"Finally, it’s dead!" Ma Yongcheng gasped, clutching his chest with lingering fear.

Lin Yu’an still had to deal with the aftermath. He took his job seriously, burning every item which had been smeared by the rotten blood and flesh.

"This toad, was it a mute?" Ma Yongcheng approached Leng Chuan and asked. Even though he had never encountered such a powerful zombie, they were usually similar to crazed beasts, roaring non-stop.

Leng Chuan pursed his lips, his expression became grave. He shook his head. "He was definitely not a mute..."

Seeing Lin Yu’an was about to burn the house, he hurriedly stopped the little black cat.

"Let’s check inside the house first!" He subconsciously turned to Xie Ziyuan for his approval once he finished his words. The latter nodded.

"He lives alone, right?" Ma Yongcheng, asked. "Just making sure. I want to be prepared in case anything jumps out of the door."

Leng Chuan’s mouth twitched, hoping that this dog didn’t jinx it.

"The zombie is the only one." Xie Ziyuan told them.

They heaved a sigh of relief and went inside and searched everywhere for any clues.

Lin Yu’an was the first one to notice something odd. He bit his lip nervously and tried to speak in a louder voice so that they could hear him. "There is a rope here and more stains compared to other places."

Soon, Leng Chuan came out of one of the rooms, his face serious. Everyone gathered to share their findings, he pointed to the rope and stains on the floor. "He might have known he might turn into a fallen beast and tied rope around himself."

Ma Yongcheng’s nose was very sensitive and powerful. He pointed to a room he had just come from. "There are dried bloodstains there. Not rotten, normal bloodstains."

Leng Chuan was even more worried when he heard that. "Someone might have hurt Mr. Wang."

At this time, Xie Ziyuan cut them off. "Let’s get out of here."

They couldn’t stay for too long. The other three nodded and followed him.

Suddenly, someone called out. "Leng Chuan?"
