Apocalypse: Transmigrated General's Daughter Uses Space to Survive-Chapter 51: His Silent Protection
Chapter 51 - 51: His Silent Protection
After lunch the two teams moved toward the cafeteria. The entire dining hall and kitchen was a messy sight with overturned chairs, abandoned backpacks, plates, and dried bloodstains.
It looked like there had still been students eating when chaos ensued. Broken windows gaped like empty eyes, indicating that some survivors had escaped through the windows.
At the moment, the campus was eerily quiet and only the faint groans of the undead echoed through the empty corridors.
Chu Miao signaled for her team to spread out and cover each other's retreat. But at this moment, the two teams had mostly combined, so the other soldiers listened to her and spread out too with Ye Xuan covering the rear and eliminating any zombies coming at them from behind.
Chu Miao kicked open the door to the cafeteria with a force that shook it from the hinges and the lock broke.
The moment it swung open, a guttural snarl erupted from inside. A decayed cook in a chef's uniform lunged at her, his bony fingers clawing at her throat.
Chu Miao twisted to the side, avoiding his claws while at the same time, driving her sword through his skull. The zombie collapsed with a resounding thud.
She stopped for a moment and waited but when no more movement could be heard inside, she stepped over the corpse and entered the hall.
"We are clear here, but we should move fast before the zombies nearby surround this place." She said as she started rummaging around the place.
She wanted to take the dining tables and chairs in the hall but was worried about the other team discovering her space.
Inside, everyone moved quickly and headed to the kitchen. They pried open drawers and cabinets, taking anything that was useful out for Li Kun and Chu Hao to store.
Ye Xuan moved close to Chu Miao and asked, "Do you want to check if there's anything at the back?"
Chu Miao, who had been busy opening drawers, stopped. She turned around to look at Ye Xuan. She was quiet for a whole minute, making Ye Xuan nervous before replying.
"Okay."
Ye Xuan heaved a silent sigh of relief when he heard her answer and took the lead to head to the back of the kitchen.

They opened the door thinking it would lead to the back of the building but instead ended up in a small warehouse filled with supplies.
There were sucks of rice, flour, gallons of cooking oil, and condiments.
"It looks like they had just restocked before the disaster started." Ye Xuan observed since the warehouse was full and the things inside untouched.
"Yeah, it looks so. We should get those two with space ability here to take the supplies. How should we divide them?"
Chu Miao didn't want to take advantage of the man. Since he was the one who suggested the location, she could let him have a bigger share.
To her surprise, Ye Xuan didn't think the same. "We found it together so just divide it in half."
"Alright, if that's what you want." Chu Miao said.
If he didn't want to take things slow and not scare her, Ye Xuan would even have given everything to her.
So, taking only half was a given.
They both left the warehouse and went back to the kitchen.
"There are supplies at the back, you guys should go collect them." Chu Miao said.
"Okay, I'll go now." Chu Hao answered quickly while Li Kun turned to look at his captain for his opinion. Upon seeing Ye Xuan nod, he also acknowledged his task and followed Chu Hao to the back.
Suddenly, they heard a loud crash coming from the hallway leading to the recreation building.
Gu Fan ran out to check and came back with a solemn expression.
"There are hundreds of zombies moving this way. And about ten of them are faster than the rest. Way faster." He said as he looked at Ye Xuan as if asking for orders.
"Let's move out and fight in the open. It's not a good idea to fight in this restricted place. It will limit our movements."
After hearing what Ye Xuan said, even the Chu family followed suit and went outside. Soon, a battle had ensued again.
As they fought, Chu Miao found herself standing back-to-back with Ye Xuan. She was not entirely comfortable with entrusting her back to someone she didn't understand or completely trust. But in this case, she had no choice.
Ye Xuan on the other hand was happy he could fight side-by-side with her like this. Even if they were busy killing zombies and didn't have time to interact. This was enough for him at the moment.
Chu Hao and Li Kun also finished storing the supplies and came out to join the battle.
The stench of rotting flesh thickened in the air. A bloated zombie with a round body suddenly lunged at Chu Miao, but she ducked, pivoting low to sever its legs with the double swords in her hands.
As she turned around and stood up to finish the zombie, she saw it collapse to the ground with its head cleaved in half.
She looked at her side and saw Ye Xuan retracting his blade covered in blood and white brain matter.
"Thanks." She could only thank him.
"You are welcome." He replied as he drove a dagger into the skull of an approaching zombie.
After clearing all the zombies surrounding them Chu Miao asked her brother to burn the corpses.
As soon as the zombies were set on fire, everyone felt the temperature rise instantly and they had to move back a distance.
It was after all spiritual fire and not ordinary fire.
As soon as the zombies turned into ashes, Ye Xuan asked Pei Ming to form a small tornado and sweep away the ashes. He had already understood why Chu Miao wanted to burn them.
As soon as the ashes were blown away, they all saw several crystals lying on the ground near several zombies.
They didn't know which zombies produced the crystals but they were sure it was the ones moving faster.
