Chapter 43 - 43: The Training Begins

The two teams separated as Grandpa Chu led his family to the back of the hospital. They had to kill zombies on the way there because even though most of the zombies were indoors as they were afraid of the sun, there were still zombies roaming around outside.

The zombies lunged at them like mindless creatures that didn't care for their lives. Unlike the day before, today most of the zombies had sharper claws with pointy nails.

Moreover, the eyes that were only white yesterday today had red veins running across the eyeballs making them even more terrifying.

As they lunged, Chu Miao and her family took action. Chu Miao shot white light balls from her hands that burned the zombies more thoroughly than fire at the point of contact.

Any place where the ball of light landed was only left with black bones as all the rotten flesh was burnt. Upon understanding the effect of her light energy on zombies, Chu Miao did not hold back.

She formed bigger balls and kept throwing them at the zombies. However, she realized that she was using too much spiritual energy when she used it this way.

Since they knew that the brain of zombies must be destroyed for it to die, she decided to try burning its brain.

So, the next moment, Chu Miao formed a light ball as she dodged a zombie that tried to attack her from the back. She aimed the light ball at the head of the nearest zombie and threw it. The light ball landed square on the face and as it burned the flesh, it also penetrated the brain and turned it to ash.

The zombie was dead and collapsed on the ground in seconds.

A wide smile appeared on Chu Miao's face as she figured out the best way to deal with the zombies with her spiritual energy.

As such, she began throwing light balls at the zombies indiscriminately, turning their heads into empty black skulls.

When the others saw how quickly Chu Miao was dealing with the zombies, they were not to be outdone.

Chu Hao created fireballs and, like his sister, incinerated zombies by burning their heads. His fire was no ordinary fire as it was formed using spiritual energy, thus it burned faster and hotter.

The zombie's heads were burned within seconds.

Grandpa Chu, on the other hand, was entangled with several zombies who tried to attack him from different sides. To prevent them from getting close, he used his thunder element to make a lightning whip.

He swung the thunder whip around, and with each swing, a zombie head would fall. It was simple and crude.

Everyone had found a different way to use their spiritual energy to deal with the zombies and within thirty minutes, there were hundreds of zombies lying all around them.

As they fought, they had a better grasp of their spiritual energy and we're coming up with ways to minimize the usage of energy with each kill.

Chu Miao didn't have this problem. After understanding that the light element was the nemesis of the zombies, she could kill them effortlessly.

She had changed her strategy from using light balls to covering the tip of her sword with light energy and plunging it into the zombies' heads.

She shuffled around, weaving her way among the zombies while holding two short swords, one in each hand.

She raised her right hand and plunged the sword into the head of the closest zombie and, at the same time, swung her left hand horizontally, harvesting the head of another zombie.

As the swords were covered with light energy, she didn't need to worry about needing a second cut after the first. As long as the light energy touched any part of the brain, the entire head would burn.

For her, killing these zombies was child's play.

The only person struggling a bit was Mother Chu, as it was her first time fighting, but Father Chu was fighting close by and providing support.

Every time a zombie tried to sneak up on her, Father Chu would send an ice arrow through its head. He was getting proficient in using the ice spiritual energy.

At first, he needed to aim at least twice before he could pierce the zombies' heads, but as he gained experience in manipulating his spiritual energy, he could use more force and pierce the zombie heads with a single ice arrow.

Moreover, he had also learned from his daughter and was now using snowflakes to slice off the zombie's heads instead of wasting energy on ice arrows.

Mother Chu was slow but she had also found that her wood energy was the nemesis of the zombies.

Zombies carry death energy since they are dead creatures anyway, while wood energy is full of vitality. As long as she used her wood energy and infected it into the zombies, they would die very fast.

Thus, Mother Chu was using her wood energy to control any plant in her sight and wrap them around the zombies, making them collapse around her.

As Chu Miao killed zombies, she started thinking about how the superpower she got from the fog worked.

She tried to inject light energy into the sword in her right hand and water energy into the sword in her left energy.

But this action shocked her so much that she almost forgot to kill zombies. She only came back to her senses when Chu Hao called out to her after burning a zombie that was about to dig its claw into her back.

"What is wrong with you Bunny? How can you get distracted amid a battle?" Chu Hao asked in a disapproving tone.

He didn't want to reprimand her but she was being careless while fighting these monsters.

"I am sorry, I didn't mean to be distracted, it's just that I just found out something about our superpowers and was momentarily shocked." Chu Miao apologized with a good attitude.

"What did you find out Bunny?" Her grandfather asked as he swung a thunder whip and cut off the head of a zombie in front of him.

"Let's kill these things first. I'll tell you when we get home."
