Apocalypse: Reborn with a Soul Sync Farming Space System-Chapter 48 Time to Have a Little Army
(Outside the Wayne mansion)
Camile stumbled as she was dragged out of the Wayne mansion, her heels scraping against the stone steps.
"Let go of me!" she cried, her voice hoarse and broken. "You have no right...!"
The iron gates slammed shut behind her with a deafening clang.
Silence followed, as she felt something inside her snap. Was it from losing control? Or failing to achieve her goal? She had no answer.
The guards released her and stepped back without another glance, as if she were no longer worth their attention.
Camile’s hands tightened by her side, and sweat dripped down her temples. Her shoulders shook violently, sobbing. Tears streamed down her face, soaking into the front of her dress.
For a full minute, she cried like a woman who had lost everything... Perhaps she did, Alexander Wayne would never see her in the same way as before, and she was not able to collect the funds she had promised the leader of the Severance cult.
Then, slowly, the sobs stopped. She exhaled deeply, as if she was trying to calm herself down. She lifted her head, wiping off the tears clinging to her lashes. Her eyes no longer held emotions, they were now calculating, cold, and sharp.
"Laurel, Laurel... just a little more time, and I’ll make you wish you never offended me." She sighed in agitation, the sun was scalding. "The apocalypse is coming, I hope you enjoy being Mrs. Wayne while it lasts." She laughed.
Her laughing was so hysterical that even the guards thought she had lost a nut.
This time around Camile believed she would be the one who would rule the world, with her knowledge of the past and her connection with the Severance cult, rising in the apocalypse was as easy as raising a finger.
When the time comes, she would make the Wayne family crawl and grovel for her forgiveness, and as for Laurel... she would never forgive her for the humiliation she had received.
Just then, a voice rang behind her.
"Camile!" Ronan’s voice echoed from behind the gate.
A faint knowing smirk formed on Camile’s lips. ’There comes my first scapegoat.’ she thought inwardly.
The gates opened, and Ronan rushed towards her. "Are you okay? Are you hurt anywhere?" He asked, his brows knitting in worry.
Camile’s pretentious mask slipped on again. She sniffled, dabbing the under of her eyes with her hand. "Ronan, thank you for standing up for me today. Now I know who would really stand by me in my lowest point."
Ronan held Camile’s hand. "Camile, I’m sorry you have to go through what you went through today..." he paused, his heart clenched at the sight of her tears. "... now that you and that a**hole beauty are no longer together, I’ll take care of you now. And as for that heartless sister of yours, leave her to me. I’ll deal with her."
Ronan dipped his hand into his pocket. "Here, have my card, and get an apartment for yourself, and whatever you need." He fanned himself from the heat, he was even moments from collapsing. He forcefully placed the card in her hand.
"I can’t accept this Ronan, what would your wife think of us?" Camile asked innocently, stylishly probing her position in his heart.
Ronan’s face darkened at the mention of his wife. "Forget about her." He paused, he really wanted to spend time with her, but he was afraid he might die from standing too long under it.
His body was already drenched in sweat. "Go get the apartment... I’ll call you later." He quickly said, turning back into the mansion.
"Ronan! Aren’t you going to drop me off?!" Camile’s words were like water falling on a rock.
All she could see was his behind which was disappearing from her view. How the hell was she supposed to go back? The taxis were barely working... Doesn’t that mean she had to walk?
At that thought, Camile rushed towards the gate screaming Ronan’s name, the guards stopped her from approaching.
.......
Laurel let out a breath she never realised she had been holding. Her eyes lowered to the floor. She did it? She finally spoke up for herself.
"Okay, your time is up." Ling Xuan’s words interrupted her thoughts.
Couldn’t Ling Xuan give her at least a little time to process her emotions?
Laurel sighed. "Okay."
Just then, her body twitched, and her eyes, which were full of emotions suddenly became cold.
Her overbearing aura spread across the room again, but this time everyone interpreted it as Laurel being very angry.
Meanwhile, Grandpa Wayne’s sharp gaze fixated on her, almost as if he was seeing something the others weren’t seeing.
"Laurel..."
"Save it for later, I have something to do." She cut in sharply.
Alexander was taken aback by her sudden cold shoulder. He knew he had messed up big time, and he was going to apologize for his actions, so why was Laurel being cold towards him? Everyone makes mistakes.
The other family member stared at her with wide eyes, almost like they were saying... the audacity.
"Aunty Laurel, are you going out?" Tina asked, tilting her head to one side, her eyes sparkling with curiosity.
Ling Xuan gave her a curt nod.
"But it is so hot outside, I don’t want you to get hurt." Tina’s eyes blinked worriedly at her.
Ling Xuan frowned. "It’ll take more than that to hurt me." she paused seeing the not-so-happy look on Tina’s face.
"I’ll get you something on my way back." Ling Xuan said casually, her expression remaining stoic.
"Yah, you’re the best." She hugged Ling Xuan’s leg.
Ling Xuan had the urge to kick her away... but Tina was the only one she could tolerate in the whole family.
She poked Tina’s head with her finger, pushing her back.
"I know I’m the best." She muttered under her breath.
After Ling Xuan was certain the little koala wouldn’t come back, she turned around, walking out of the door... leaving the family with their mouths wide open.
"The meeting isn’t over, is it?" Felicia asked with a petrified look. She dared walk out on Grandpa Wayne? The audacity!
.......
Ling Xuan walked towards Laurel’s car. Ronan, who was running back into the house as if something was chasing him, paused for a second.
"Where do you think you are going?" He asked, his voice laced with authority.
Ling Xuan didn’t spare him a glance before entering the car. Ronan walked towards her in anger, but before he could open the door, she hit her foot on the gas, driving off.
Ronan stumbled to the ground, holding his hand, crying, and raining insults on her.
Ling Xuan glanced at the rear mirror, a satisfied smirk gracing her lips... now it was time to have a little army of her own. She whistled as she stepped on the gas again, leaving dust in her wake.
